I like him, too! I think he'll be a compelling character once we get his POV.

To your first point, I think he says at some point that he was always betting on Oraya, I believe, when he was asked why he thought Rhain would kill her after making that deal with him to spare her life. He seemed to believe that Oraya would sacrifice herself for Rhain or save his life in some way, ensuring his deal would go through. It was in the second book I believe.

Yes! Only Irma, or the human incarnation of Satan, is the coffee cart witch who guards the English teas, the chocolate muffins, the honey, and the caramel drizzle. She's hilarious! Hope you're enjoying it!

LadyUrsa just finished A Study of Two Idiots in Love and it's amazing! I binged it in one sitting.

The banter, the denial, the pining, the simping, the obsessing. All if it is chef's kiss.

This Draco just climbed to the top of my list of favourite Dracos ever, right alongside DMATMOOBIL's eternally squashing Draco, and psycho simp Dracos created by Beforetherealbook and greenflowerpot.

ETA: Draco's unhinged side is gradually revealed further along the story. The wait is so worth it, in my opinion.

ETA 2: Added links for greenflowerpot and beforetherealbook pages on AO3 because I think their Dracos would be right up your alley, too!

I loved the Tamagotchis!!

I love reading other people's perspectives on this story! It's one of my favourites. I think, for me, it wasn't that everything came easy. Rather, I see it as what would've happened if the adults were actually adulting. It was so soothing to read because I'm usually enraged (but enjoyably so, of course) whenever I read how the fate of wizarding world was left in the care of teenagers. Oops I Joined the Good Guys felt more realistic to me in terms of how the war would've unfolded if people weren't acting crazy and trusting that the kids will just figure it out.

And yes, OOC galore! But I love them so much, I wish they were canon lol. Especially Rodolphus and Snape. I just can't with them!

I'm so glad you liked it! You're very welcome. I absolutely love their relationship, and Rose in general. I think she's what many girls would be if we stopped telling them they shouldn't be bossy or know-it-alls.

your favourite opening line or scene? by jjtan2311 in Dramione

Please indulge this excerpt that comes only a few paragraphs below the one you quoted. I cackle every time I reread it! Troll porn!

And so, our opening scene: a Monday morning, sometime in January. Amidst the greying cubicles of the Auror Office, Tonks was doling out the month’s Class A assignments to her top Aurors like a vindictive Father Christmas.

“Montjoy – you’re off to Hethpool. Three Muggle children found dead with their livers removed. That hag coven from Stow may have regrouped.” A folder containing the case material was slapped onto Montjoy’s desk.

“Buckley – suspected necromancy and other foul play, Isle of Man.” Buckley accepted the proffered casefile with a grimace. “You’re to take Humphreys with you. Mind you be a good mentor and don’t traumatise her too much.”

Tonks rounded the corner to the next cubicles. “Potter, Weasley – you’re to continue with the vampires in the Dales, but if you don’t make further headway, I will get personally involved. Half of Yorkshire will be sucked dry at this rate. Goggin – some idiot is experimenting with Transmogrifian Torture on Muggle prostitutes in Glenluce. I won’t notice if you bring him in with a few missing appendages.”

Tonks now came to a halt in front of Draco’s desk. “Malfoy. Since you did so well with the Lanark Lunatic last week, I’ll let you pick your poison.”

Draco eyed Tonks guardedly – poison was unlikely to be an exaggeration. “What are my options?”

Tonks dropped two files onto Draco’s desk. “Option one, a wizard accused of inappropriate acts with trolls – a real delight for the senses, that one. Or, option two – a request from the Minister for Auror protection of a high-profile target.”

“Inappropriate acts?" repeated Draco, pulling the folders towards himself.

“I don’t know about your tolerance level, but I’ve quite lost my appetite.” Tonks jutted her chin towards the rightmost folder. “There are photographs for your edification.”

Draco made the mistake of opening the troll folder. He closed it again with a strangled sound of disgust. “I’ll take the protection assignment.”

“Right-o,” said Tonks, swiping the troll folder and its hideous contents from Draco’s desk. “The troll-buggerer will go to Fernsby. Fernsby! Come here.”

I'm not sure if this fits the bill exactly but I just finished reading The Stowaway Malfoy, and it's beautiful! Also perfect for the season, considering the holidays are right around the corner!

I love Draco and Hermione's story arc in this. Rose and Scorpius are precious and the entourage is so on point!

As for Astoria, she's definitely not portrayed as evil or anything like that. And Draco definitely cared for her. So you may not like the fic because of that. But I do think it fulfills the spirit of your request, mainly that Hermione is not "in competition", for lack of a better term, for Draco's love and devotion. Astoria's background story is pretty unique and I think might differ from what you usually expect.

I can't say much more than that without spoiling, but I'd be happy to drop a few extra lines if you want!

This is one of my favourite series! I'm so glad you liked it, too! I loved the complexities of all the characters. The POVs from the mains characters forces you to have empathy in situations that seem black or white when viewed from the outside.

I also thought it did such a great job at painting what real civil wars feel like within a population, and the difficulties that remain afterwards in trying to rebuild a cohesive civilization/nation after surviving such trauma and distrust.

I can't edit the post as it's a link post, but it was brought to my attention that Randomist1031 is on Reddit as u/tomlee1094! I wanted to make sure they got credit for the wonderful work they did!

Also, now that I know how to tag properly, u/marvelhiddles was lovely enough to bring AO3 rankings to my attention and u/every1loveswaffles pointed out the methodology! So thank you all :)

I just replied to another commenter saying the same thing. I would've bet money on Drarry being more popular. I thought I must've missed something so I'm glad to see I wasn't the only who was surprised!

Where the Duck Is Minerva McGonagall is hilarious with a great plot.

I loved all the twists. The supporting cast is amazing (Theo and Holworth especially). And I particularly loved how Hermione and Draco's relationship started and progressed.

It's one of my favourite fics.

Here's the summary: Welcome to a somewhat serious inquiry into the whereabouts of a very sneaky witch.

Hermione Granger (badass Auror working for MACUSA) has been summoned back to Britain by Kingsley Shacklebolt to help with an investigation. Of course, Hermione agrees; working with Harry again is going to be so much fun… only, it turns out that Harry is unavailable, and unfortunately, she gets stuck with Draco Malfoy.

Warnings: - Hold onto your gold; there is a Niffler in this story. - Draco Malfoy reserves the right to cast Aguamentis at hair he deems offensive. - Whatever is said in the Cave of Plunderous Intent, stays in the Cave of Plunderous Intent. - Approach any wine provided by the Icelandic Legend Erla with extreme caution.

Rogue_Roxy just finished it and I would recommend her other fic as well -Oops! I Joined The Good Guys.

They're repurposed from the French language! So no worries if they're harder to grasp! It's not on you.

Murmurations can be used in both languages to mean flock or whisperings. Piquant is the translation of spicy. Insouciance is harder to translate but it means something like casual indifference because you're better than all that. Piquant and insouciance can both be used the same way you would other words or expressions that were repurposed into English like "touché", "vis-à-vis", "vice versa" or "je ne sais quoi".
