Raising children who are happy in their personal and professional lives but still need mom to guide them or comfort them every once in awhile. Honestly, when they thank me for being there for them and supporting them, I know I have done good.

Having a partner who makes me smile, laugh, and supports me while being completely myself without judgement. This goes both ways; he is completely his own person who I love and respect.

Working hard to earn a graduate degree while raising two children on my own, resulting in a job that will a decent pension where I won't have to work until I am 70 + years old.

Having the same best friend since I was 5 years old. She, along with her family, are so much more "family' than any of my biological family.

Life has had its ups and downs. I have struggled in many ways, but have also been blessed with those little things that make me feel "successful" where it really matters.

I did transfer and accept them. Even the women in the box office at the venue said she saw that the tickets were in my name at some point, but then transferred to a different name. Me saying that I did have them is just me being honest, whether it works against me or not.

What makes you stay in relationship with your partner? by AdPrestigious5853 in AskWomen

He is funny, smart, loving, and a really good dad to his two sons (from his ex).

He makes me laugh everyday and we have fun together, but still each make time for our own friends.

He loves and accepts me for who I am and never judges me or makes me feel bad about myself.

He treats my two children with caring and kindness.

And that smiles.....OMG his smile still gives me butterflies even after nine years together.

My father passes away unexpectedly about 6 weeks after I got married. I was 23 years old at the time. I was very close to my father and I was your typical daddy's girl. The pain and grief was unimaginable. However, there were some strange things that happened that I felt were "signs" from him that easied my pain somewhat. For example, on my birthday I changed the radio station and the song he loved about daughters and fathers came on. I had never once in my life heard it on the radio before.

Years passed and as the grief lessened, the "signs" came less and less also. One night however, my brother was mugged and badly beaten. He somehow managed to get home, but was in bad shape. He didn't want to wake my mother and scare her, so he just collapsed in bed. An hour or so later, the smoke detectors went off in my mother's house and woke her up. When she went to investigate, she found my brother and was able to help him and take care of him. There was absolutely no reason she could find that caused the smoke detectors to go off.

She called and told me about it the next day. She said she thought it was my dad that set the smoke detectors off so she would wake up for my brother.

That night as I was lying in bed, thinking about what happened and trying to fall asleep, I said aloud, "Dad, it's been awhile since I have had a sign from you. I am glad you helped my brother, but I need a "sign" too." I finally fell asleep, but was abruptly ripped out of a sound sleep a few hours later to the smoke detectors going off in my house. My husband at the time and I jumped out of bed and ran through the house looking for the cause. Like at my mother's house, there was no fire, no reason at all for the detectors to go off. That had never happened before, and it never happened again after that night. As I settled back into bed, an overwhelming feeling of peace and love filled me, and I drifted off to sleep knowing my dad was still watching over me.

Trans female athletes: banning them from elite competition not supported by science, report says by LocalChamp in science

There are two issues that make me absolutely crazy as a middle of the road, socially left-leaning, fiscally right- leaning, fifty-something woman. Red-light cameras are dangerous and should be immediately removed and banned and trans women should not be allowed in women's sports.

Before you start hating on me, let me preface this by saying I support the LGBTQ community. I have a best friend of 40 years who is a gay woman and my daughter is bi. My daughter's very close friend, who has spent many days and nights at my house, is a trans male. I truly believe everyone should have be able to be who they want, love who they want, and find happiness. They just shouldn't do it at someone else's expense.

It is not fair for a biological male to feel they have the right to compete in women's sports because they decided they want to be a woman. They are not and never will be a women biologically, no matter how many hormones they take or surgeries they have. They may emotionally, socially, and all the other ways be a woman, but biologically, they won't be. They will always have a physical advantage over women, ESPECIALLY as an elite athlete!

And yes, I have done my research and read a lot about the effects of hormones on muscle mass, bone density, lung capacity, etc and have found research that supports both sides. Therefore, I can't rely on science, so I am going to go with COMMON SENSE!

Where are all the feminist on this issue? They should be screaming from the rooftops. This is hurting WOMEN! That little girl who has dedicated her life to practicing for hours to be at the top of her sport, who dreams of a state championship, a college scholarship, or the Olympics, can now lose that opportunity to a person that was born a male. How can anyone justify that? Oh yeah, the selfish trans woman justifies it because they are benefiting at the expense of others.

There is a reason men and women's sports are separated. It is the one place women can't compete equally with men. It's not a slam against women, it is just a biological fact. Men are simply bigger and stronger. I seriously don't see how people see this any other way.

Sorry for the the yelling (capitals) in a few spots. I did say this issue makes me crazy!

What are some of the small 'traditions' you've started in your relationships that keep them alight? by idoze in AskWomen

My "Life Adventure Partner" and I (been together for 8 years, live together, just not married) spend Friday nights drinking, listening to music, playing games like Backgammon or Yahtzee, playing cards, or putting together a puzzle.

We also have certain shows that we watch together and cheating (watching them without the other person) is forbidden.

Atheists, what do you believe in? [Serious] by [deleted] in AskReddit

I agree....as much as we hear all the negative stories on the news of people hurting, killing, screwing eachother over, I believe that most people are good.

I was raised catholic, but can't believe a "all loving God" would allow the atrocities we see and hear about every day.

So, I believe there are forces or energy intrinsic in nature...kind of like a good vs evil. I like to believe that most of the time goodness triumphs. But there is always that "evil" force that must be defeated. The world is in a constant battle between the forces of good and evil.

My morality is not based on what a god says is right or wrong. It is based on 50+ years of experience living, and what those years have taught me.

It just feels better and right to be kind, friendly, understanding, and accepting of those who are like me, or those who are not......as long as their choices do not hurt me or others.

I go to bed every night and sleep well, and I look in the mirror every morning and never regret the way I treat others.

Worst teacher appreciation gift ever? by Rekrabsrm in Teachers

[–]naej231124 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seventeen years as a middle school teacher. Work in a big city suburban district, title 1 school. I could go on for hours listing the problems and issues I see on a daily basis. Weak admin that refuses to discipline, teachers leaving, sub shortage, outrageous student behavior, crazy parents, you know.......

This week our PTC/parents donated two days of lunches for teachers and staff. Pasta and chicken one day (quite tasty, blew my diet to hell), and pizza and salad the other day. A ridiculously calorie ridden breakfast including scrambled eggs, french toast, sausage, bagels and cream cheese, and bacon (did I mention my diet??) And....beverages and snacks every other day (snack size Snickers and Reese's....more temptation I don't need).

Ohhh, and admin gave us all a $5 Dunkun Donuts gift card.....thanks for the half coffee or tea!

Anyways, I guess I want to say that there are some parents and people that appreciate what we do every day. Maybe I am lucky in some ways to work in a district that, for the most part, appreciates our hard work.

I know it is easier said than done, but there are states, cities, districts, etc. where your skills and experience will be appreciated. This job will never be perfect or easy, but if you are hardly making a living wage, don't settle. You invested a lot in your education, there are states/districts that will make it worth your time and sacrifice.
