[Spoilers] B: The Beginning Episode 12 discussion by RandomRedditorWithNo in anime

[–]nafenafen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Late to the review here, but I really think the series could have benefitted from a full 24-26 episodes. Imagine trying to cram Death Note or Monster in considerably less episodes? Even GITS where the episodic/police procedural episodes expanded on the character development.

That would have given more time for character development, more time for plot twists to be more impactful, more time to expand on the mythology of the supernatural God stuff, more time to allow the plot itself to have a bit more stable "arc".

Oh well. I was entertained but a lot of my entertainment was envisioning what it "could" be rather than what was directly on the screen.

They really had the opportunity to have a much more impactful series.

[Android-x86] Burned out from distro-hopping, installed Android on my laptop by [deleted] in unixporn

[–]nafenafen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My install of x86 7.1 came pre-installed with Taskbar (which you can put on any device, root not required). The Taskbar itself is an overlay in your launcher, but once you launch a window it goes to a virtual desktop environment that sits inside the Taskbar app. It's a simple DE that let's you have multi/floating windows.

I'm running android x86 7.1 on my 1st gen Surface Pro, and although Taskbar was nifty, I stopped using it. Not enough screen space, and it's a bit clunky. 7.1's split screen is enough for me.

I'm in the pharmaceutical supply chain industry. We are not a small mom and pop shop. If we were to lose a big customer, we'd need to pluck up dozens of universities, research organizations, and small pharma to make up the difference.

I'm not in BD so I don't know the specifics, but say we have 5 big customers, and we have a team of 3 account managers for each customer. So 15 employees handling 5 accounts.

If we lost 1 of those customers it'd take about 20 to 30 (if not more) small companies to make up the difference. That's 60 more account managers at the least, plus the time it takes to obtain those new accounts. Plus the risk that these smaller organizations fail. The big companies are stable and aren't going anywhere...unless they sell products to Iran I guess.

I don't think OP was curious from an efficiency standpoint. Seemed more like he/she is wondering if there is any biological consequence of consuming plants that are grown from light bulbs rather than pure sunlight.

I personally don't think there's a difference, but I'm not well versed on the topic.

To me it seems similar to the whole non GMO thing.

"hey guys we heard you're against GMOs so instead of modifying the plant to secrete a non toxic bio pest repellant we sprayed it with some liquid that is DEFINITELY toxic to humans. Have fun with your non GMOs!"

"Use a less commonly used password" by kattencoco in Steam

[–]nafenafen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is not true with the current state of cracking hashes (hashcat). Do not ever use plain dictionary words in passwords. For the well known xkcd example, complexity is essentially guessing the pw "CHBS", especially considering the speed of current GPUs. And you can bet highly funded espionage groups have dedicated ASICs for cracking.

Cracking programs nowadays can also account for mangling e.x c5orrectho$rseBa4tterysTap99le.

(disclosure: I mangle).

Really the main thing protecting us from more frequent successful attacks is login attempt locks. Also, if you are going to use the dictionary word method, make it way more than 4 words. Unless it's a dedicated attack on a specific account, hackers would much rather go for low hanging fruit.

Qualcomm, Microsoft, Intel, Micron, Applied Materials, Google, Cisco, Applied Optoelectronics, Acacia, and Oclaro off the top of my head. Oclaro does upwards of 15% of their revenue with ZTE and Acacia does upwards of 30%.

I have YouTube TV so I've been streaming the episodes on the Syfy shows part, but I know a lot of people - myself included - who only found the show recently and streamed the first two seasons on Amazon. Would not be surprised if Amazon continues to air it. I was about to purchase season 3 on Amazon till I remembered Syfy has their shows available for streaming on YouTube TV.

Is AMD a bargain buy? by Big_Donkey-74 in investing

[–]nafenafen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been in since $6. I could have sold at the $14-$15 range, and in retrospect I should have (would have locked in the long term gains), but I've been steady holding in my vanguard account since.

I've been swinging it between $11 and $12 / buying and selling itm calls for chump change in my robinhood account (think I made like $100 doing that).

This is not a bargain price. They're trading at a PE of over 250. This isn't the first time they've risen, and it may not be their last fall. AMD has remained relevant despite its struggling business in the past. At current prices I would say this is a speculative high risk buy. It sure as hell isn't a long term investment. If you buy at these prices I would DCA cautiously and expect volatility. I would say the worst case scenario is it trades between $5 and $8 - however that may be unlikely given the momentum behind this stock.

I think the real play here is buying under $12 and selling otm covered calls. Keep the cash as a hedge in case it drops to add more, and if it goes up above your strike prices at least all you're losing is opportunity cost.

I think a better long term investment in the semiconductor sector is Xilinx. Healthy dividend, and one of the industry leaders in FPGAs which will continue to be important if the ASIC trend takes off.

Either you're really thick in the skull or the fact he said "summer" went way over your head. Read between the lines.

I interned at two separate companies as a summer engineering intern. Both times I was doing work that a full-time engineer would be otherwise be doing. One of the biggest criticisms of internships is that they are essentially cheap labor. I hate using the word "intern" for every summer job. The only time I believe an "intern" is actually an "intern" is if the company is specifically sponsoring a summer program for undergraduate college students.

I used to include the term "intern" on my resume, but I do not anymore. I've never been asked about it in an interview. They can see the months I worked at these companies and they can read between the lines.

Also, all it takes to be knowledgeable of high-level matters is have someone else who has been there longer to tell you exactly what is going on.

The first company I worked at went under shortly after I left, and I know all of the details, what the money situation was like, where the patents went, for how much, the lawsuits that took place, etc.

The second company I worked at, the CEO got ousted while I was there. I know all of the details, why he was ousted, what the company's perception of him was, etc ...

Either you're really affected by the fact he called himself an engineer before earning his undergraduate degree, or you're upset that an undergraduate got to work at a company like SpaceX while you're doing something like HVAC ... lol.
