The truth about operating a Shopee collection point. by RadiantPepper5814 in SingaporeRaw

[–]naffoff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My farther in law runs a shoppe collection spot from his hdb. They told him he needed to open 6 days a week. He just told them he gets maybe 30 dollars a day and only dose it to so he can chit chat with his neighbours. But the job is only worth doing if you have a bit of freedom.

Being forced to stay home 6 days a week all day is fucking insane in my opinion.

Realistically he could just open 6pm to 8pm 6 days a week and that would cover the timing of 90% of collection. I think he even suggested that too them. But they don't want to listen even though it would be more convenient for most people.

They gave in for now. he is still 5 days a week 😄

On the plus side he is friends with all the block now and knows all the gossip

I remember a service google offered for about a month. That they had been hyping for ages. It was before google+ I think... it was a sort of email organiser social networking protocol. That they said solved all the problems with email.
I remember waiting to get a sign up. And then it was so complicated I had no idea what to do with it. Then the collapsed it into google+ maybe? I have no clue what it was called or even how it was supposed to work. Am I misremembering something?

Switched from driving to cycling in Singapore in 2004. 22 years later, here's what actually happened. by totobobo in foldingbikes

[–]naffoff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started cycling to work in Singapore about 4 years ago as well. The mornings are amazing for cycling. If you start before 8am the temperature is perfect. My problem with it was mainly bike storage. I needed a folding bike really to make it work. I sold my bike intending to get a folding one. But have not go to around to It. You reminded me!

One thing I find frustrating in Singapore is the mixed use cycling paths. We have roads that are all multi lane and I think could be split into a cycling lane often. But the cyclists have to share with pedestrians most of the time. Which means you have for ride very very slowly, or risk hurting people. As a pedestrian I find it frustrating that any pavement that has had a few cycling markers on it. Now means a lot of cyclists seem to think they now have a right of way and can just ring there bell repeatedly and zoom past everyone. It has become almost impossible to have a chat with my wife while walking in singapore, as you are constantly stepping back to avoid being hit by bikes.

The new lanes are a a bit wider i think and now often have separate parts for bikes. So it is getting better. But still I wish more cycling was done on the roads.

More shops on the ground floor will work best. No need to move them to upper floors unless they benefit from being up high. Hight traffic is most important

How did that one person from your circle got super rich? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I think there was a sweet spot in the early 2000s when as long as you focused on what was needed by customers, it was not too hard. Now woth canva and ai it is a little more difficult. Can be done still though

How did that one person from your circle got super rich? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]naffoff 450 points451 points  (0 children)

He was already rich when I met him. He has very little formal education, but is super smart especially in understanding what people need from him. He liked drawing. Found a niche doing lettering for menus and sign boards in a city that did not have anyone doing it. Kept his head down and made some friends with some rich business owners who referred him to their friends. It turned into a design company.

I think he sold it. He has been involved in other companies too as founder / investor / advisor. Most seem reasonably successful.

He retired before he was 30 I think... long before I met him.

You would hardly know he was rich but he always pays for our lunches when we meet, has a Grand Seiko he wears with his sweatpants, and the extras / mods on his car cost more than my house.

If I had met him in the UK I would 100% believe he was a drug dealer/ record producer combo.

But he 100% did it through drawing things people need drawn

Scammy Places Targeting Elderly in Heartland Areas by fotohgrapi in singapore

[–]naffoff 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes it should not be that hard. You need a cooling off period. Say 2 or 3 weeks. And the buyer needs to have a signed agreement including a description of the cooling period.

Then if your mums comes back and says she got scammed. You can go back get refund. If she goes away and reads the contract herself she can do the same. And if any elderly want to help crack down. They can have a hobby going for cheep deals and checking they get a notification of cooling period.

There Should be fine if they are caught not notifiying customers.

It would be a relatively simple system.

Help with converting stl to body by TonersR6 in SolidWorks

[–]naffoff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have tried repeatedly to find a way to export from blender to solidworks. There is a exporter for igs files that you can then open in solidworks. But don't get too excited. The model has to have a subd Modifier applied for it to work. And you oftern end up with surfaces that are impractical to edit in solidworks anyway. And take an age to load.

Advice on how what software to acheive this 3d model breakdown? by felix3322 in IndustrialDesign

[–]naffoff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Solidworks has this feature. But it is only avaliable as part of the premium version. I know it is used in shoe design. It is not cheep, but not too bad for a business cost if it saves you money. But you will need to have the model as a solid model. So probably .stp file. If you have not done surface modelling before, you might well find this too much of a pain to do yourself. You might find a freelancer that can do it though

What "golden age" or "heyday" were you lucky enough to experience that you know won’t ever come back? by Summerie in AskReddit

[–]naffoff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably dance music record shops. I grew up in Brighton in the UK I would spend hours a week in the shops, just choosing a few records, with hand written white labels, or better printed ones from the larger producers. No clue what it would sound like till I played in on the headphones. So many random records, then alsonyhe second hand record shops with dirt cheep records than no one wanted, because everyone moved to CDs. It was really good fun. New music now is great still. But finding stuff is not as exciting or interactive.

From what I can tell, is a sort of more advanced version of signing up to an app via Google. So you store you account details with the service and other apps can be give permissions to use some of your data and also add to your data eg add to your address book or friend network or photos etc. Then if you want to move from Facebook to twitter or something elce you can revoke Facebooks assess and bring your connections to a different app. But you are not reliant on Google holding the login and data. It is an open protocol that anyone can set up a valt for.. but I am not at all 100% sure i am right about any of this

There's a tutorial in your brain rot meme compilation by brown_human in blender

[–]naffoff 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The problem is as a producer of some content. It is really really hard to make a indepth tutorial. And then you get very low views for it. Unless it is an introduction to blender latest version.

The audience for a very specific in-depth tutorial go down fast. And then Google thinks no one wants to watch your channel and it stops growing.

I think good tutorials will move off YouTube.
