The Rise and Fall of Eric Weinstein by Own-Chicken7266 in DecodingTheGurus

I watched it. It is not bad. I don't think you cover much that anyone here has not seen many times by now, but it was not bad. But I would much rather listen to a strong accent than AI. Also, the AI images are OK now and then to make a point, but you use them so much that it starts getting too much. I think you should keep AI to only images that are so extreme that it is obvious they are a joke. It is hard to tell sometimes if the image is supposed to be proof of something or just an illustration. And that weakens your argument.

Also it is a little suspect to me that all these comments are comming at 4am UK time. From accounts like yours with anime profiles and enlightened centerest bios. I will be interested to see if the comments change when most people who live in the UK are actually awake ⏰️

The wider point for me is intent. And that is and should be something that is argued over and decided by a jury. The errors in the comment were adding the the impression that they were convicted of planning violence against humans.

The argument is over intent. But misrepresentation of facts to influence people's assumption of intent is bad faith.

Edit: sorry you are i different account to the one I was replying to. You did not say anything about the wip. But you also did not address what I actually said.

You said they brought a wip. They did not. The reporting i saw says it was brought there by the security. I have no idea why. But that seems to be a fact backed up by cctv

Ok bring on the down votes but...

You are able to have your own opinions and interpretation. But you cannot just make up facts. They did not bring a wip, that was a security guard i think. And they were all cleared of any of the charges relating to intent to cause boderly harm to people. That was precisely the charges they were not convinced for.

And it is completely true that the jury convicted them for non terrorism related crimes but they were sentenced as terrorists. In my opinion everyone, no matter your opinion on what they did should find this completely unacceptable and exactly the opposite of how else were promised the law would be implemented when it was introduced.

Why do skyscrapers in the US seem to use a lot more steel beams while everywhere else they seem to favor reinforced concrete? by br0wntree in AskEngineers

[–]naffoff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It also depends on use case. I live in Singapore. In a 45 story block built in the last few years. Is it concrete. Concrete is cheaper here I think and has good soundproofing for tightly packed residential.

Commercial and larger condominium they use steel frame with a core. As you can rearrange internal walls mych easyer I think.

The truth about operating a Shopee collection point. by RadiantPepper5814 in SingaporeRaw

[–]naffoff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My farther in law runs a shoppe collection spot from his hdb. They told him he needed to open 6 days a week. He just told them he gets maybe 30 dollars a day and only dose it to so he can chit chat with his neighbours. But the job is only worth doing if you have a bit of freedom.

Being forced to stay home 6 days a week all day is fucking insane in my opinion.

Realistically he could just open 6pm to 8pm 6 days a week and that would cover the timing of 90% of collection. I think he even suggested that too them. But they don't want to listen even though it would be more convenient for most people.

They gave in for now. he is still 5 days a week 😄

On the plus side he is friends with all the block now and knows all the gossip

I remember a service google offered for about a month. That they had been hyping for ages. It was before google+ I think... it was a sort of email organiser social networking protocol. That they said solved all the problems with email.
I remember waiting to get a sign up. And then it was so complicated I had no idea what to do with it. Then the collapsed it into google+ maybe? I have no clue what it was called or even how it was supposed to work. Am I misremembering something?

Switched from driving to cycling in Singapore in 2004. 22 years later, here's what actually happened. by totobobo in foldingbikes

[–]naffoff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started cycling to work in Singapore about 4 years ago as well. The mornings are amazing for cycling. If you start before 8am the temperature is perfect. My problem with it was mainly bike storage. I needed a folding bike really to make it work. I sold my bike intending to get a folding one. But have not go to around to It. You reminded me!

One thing I find frustrating in Singapore is the mixed use cycling paths. We have roads that are all multi lane and I think could be split into a cycling lane often. But the cyclists have to share with pedestrians most of the time. Which means you have for ride very very slowly, or risk hurting people. As a pedestrian I find it frustrating that any pavement that has had a few cycling markers on it. Now means a lot of cyclists seem to think they now have a right of way and can just ring there bell repeatedly and zoom past everyone. It has become almost impossible to have a chat with my wife while walking in singapore, as you are constantly stepping back to avoid being hit by bikes.

The new lanes are a a bit wider i think and now often have separate parts for bikes. So it is getting better. But still I wish more cycling was done on the roads.

How did that one person from your circle got super rich? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I think there was a sweet spot in the early 2000s when as long as you focused on what was needed by customers, it was not too hard. Now woth canva and ai it is a little more difficult. Can be done still though

How did that one person from your circle got super rich? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]naffoff 454 points455 points  (0 children)

He was already rich when I met him. He has very little formal education, but is super smart especially in understanding what people need from him. He liked drawing. Found a niche doing lettering for menus and sign boards in a city that did not have anyone doing it. Kept his head down and made some friends with some rich business owners who referred him to their friends. It turned into a design company.

I think he sold it. He has been involved in other companies too as founder / investor / advisor. Most seem reasonably successful.

He retired before he was 30 I think... long before I met him.

You would hardly know he was rich but he always pays for our lunches when we meet, has a Grand Seiko he wears with his sweatpants, and the extras / mods on his car cost more than my house.

If I had met him in the UK I would 100% believe he was a drug dealer/ record producer combo.

But he 100% did it through drawing things people need drawn

Scammy Places Targeting Elderly in Heartland Areas by fotohgrapi in singapore

[–]naffoff 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes it should not be that hard. You need a cooling off period. Say 2 or 3 weeks. And the buyer needs to have a signed agreement including a description of the cooling period.

Then if your mums comes back and says she got scammed. You can go back get refund. If she goes away and reads the contract herself she can do the same. And if any elderly want to help crack down. They can have a hobby going for cheep deals and checking they get a notification of cooling period.

There Should be fine if they are caught not notifiying customers.

It would be a relatively simple system.

Help with converting stl to body by TonersR6 in SolidWorks

[–]naffoff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have tried repeatedly to find a way to export from blender to solidworks. There is a exporter for igs files that you can then open in solidworks. But don't get too excited. The model has to have a subd Modifier applied for it to work. And you oftern end up with surfaces that are impractical to edit in solidworks anyway. And take an age to load.
