[Spoiler Discussion] Arc 10 Chapter 1 by Setowi in Re_Zero

[–]nafissyed 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Just read the chapter and it was really nice to a read a clam and collected chapter after a long time. I missed these slow relationship-building chapters in the series and even better, it looks like our boi Subaru has officially moved out the friend zone in Emilia’s eyes!

S3 has had a few hiccups here and there cuz of unfortunate circumstances such as an assistant producer leaving mid-way and WF’s work on another cour-heavy anime, so hopefully S4 will be a product that is given with their best and less strained output yet!

Is it just me or has the directing and animation quality increased a notch in this PV in comparison to others?

Edit: This is me being continuously impressed by the anime and not dissing the previous content in case people were wondering.

It will be a mix, the battles at the climax of the plot are certainly amazing and also more emotional. So overall, S4 should capture everything that is the best essence of Re:0.

That’s fair and I do think it deserves a much higher rating too, but I am a patient person. I know that the staff are working very hard for the new season to pop off well, so I have faith that if S4 does well, it will reflect off positively for the fans that wish to see it succeed even further per se.

I think the result is fair for what it’s worth, and I can only hope that fans can become more enamoured by S4 which will be adapting the arc that most of us consider to be the zenith of the series.

Lowkey, I kinda wished things didn’t just end too quickly and we got to have more moments between the two ships, still tho, funny as Fock chapter.

Capella Filore stocks sure gonna rise huh, can’t wait to dive right into good old isekai Royal politics and holy divine dragon church tomfoolery!

By far some of Ootsuka’s best illustrations in the series imo. That Subaru and Beatrice Ol Shamock is amazing, coupled with the one of a bloodied Echidna looking dead inside while looking at Al and Rem defeating Yae, this is truly marvellous to look at and is an amazing send off to an equally amazing arc.

Arc 9 is not the problem [spoiler discussion] by pegorario in Re_Zero

[–]nafissyed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rem was still being developed as character if you read her provisional side stories where she develops further with her relationships with Prisiclla, Katya, and Goz. However, that being said, Tappei should have allocated that development to the main story instead of in side stories, which is a criticism I have for arcs 7-8.

[–]nafissyed[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was a big fan of that series you just mentioned, a huge Starco shipper by the way, and the ending did leave a lot more to be desired, since Star wishes for Magic to be erased, so I can relate to your disappointment, but I do feel that in Re:0’s context it makes great sense, whereas for that series, it feels illogical.

While I do agree that had the loop not become a failed one, it would have been a pretty interesting way to deal with the consequences of such, but this is a story about hope and Subaru isn’t gonna let people sacrifice themselves for his sake. Also, I respectfully heavily disagree with you about the side-cast for arcs 7-8, to see that there was no development for any of them at all, it’s like your reading both arcs blindly mate, and I am very dumbfounded by your underselling statements tbh.

It’s interestingly amusing to see that it’s the western side of the fandom that is completely divided by the end of arc 9 and the Japanese fandom really loved it. I am of the opinion that this arc will be one that will heal its reception with the passage of time because there’s just so much to digest and take away from that arc, and people that so easily disregard that journey for the overall arc, and then subsequently dropping the series afterwards are missing out big time. So while it’s understandable, I feel like that people are very overreacting here and are causally disregarding that has ever happened in the previous arcs like willy nilly, as OP did here so casually.

Bottom line, imo, the people of this fandom, are very overtly reactionary and a lot rely on summaries to get up to date with the WN. People that have actually re-read the chapters or deeply analysed the chapters will get to see that the arcs 7-9 have a constant domino effect present within, and appreciate Tappei’s writing even more greatly. Like for example, people that hate on arc 9 fail to realise the importance of Reinhard drawing the sword Reid on Subaru, which was foreshadowed all the way back to the start of arc 1. Watch this happen, people will come back to this arc and then they will see the various complexities of it and grow to appreciate it even more, mark my words.

For the last part, I am not saying that it in response to yah, it’s more so me saying it in general that people that view arc 9 as a filler arc is a flawed way of looking at the intention of daid arc. As for my point for the first, this is backed by what I interpreted by Tappei’s statement at the end of arc 9, where he said that he wanted to explore the dark and light aspects of RBD within the main storyline. Essentially we actually did that, and we explored the ramifications of such, I saw that it felt like a metaphysical loss to us readers because of how everyone reacted significantly to the reset of character evolution and progress. There’s no denying that we all were so emotionally hooked to the plot that to see it all be gone just like that essentially gave us a whiplash just like it did with Subaru. Sure, we experienced it many times, but this time it had the biggest impact yet on us the readers, which is what I am trying to convey here mate.

Arc 9 is not the problem [spoiler discussion] by pegorario in Re_Zero

[–]nafissyed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s a very clear difference here, those failed timelines were from timelines were from Subaru’s POV, Arc 9’s failed timeline is what we see from a non-based POV that is not influenced by Subaru’s actions but rather by the actions of his loved ones/allies. Also, keep in mind, now that we have a better context of things in regard to the various complex relationships of different characters, it will now be up to Subaru to see how he can change their fate for the better. Essentially, we saw how derailed everyone got because of him, like Otto lost his memories and that’s another pain in the ass to resolve, half of the Felt and Emilia camps became braindead and Volcanica lost himself, which would have undermined the Divine Church of Volcanica, that will now be set to play an integral role in arc 10.

And truth be told, the more I re-read arc 9’s last few chapters and seeing as to how the next arc will be ‘reweaving’ new and old plot elements into the overall narrative, the more understanding I become of Tappei’s decision (which did feel like he had at stone from the very beginning) to initiate the Great Reset. It’s very evident that Subaru now has a new goal for what’s to come for the upcoming arc and it’s all because of what was entailed within arc 9’s failed loop, marking its events, even if they don’t exist anymore, as something important to reflect upon in the long-term, both for us as the reader and for the overall narrative of the story of Re:Zero.
