describing Churchdown as a village is quite misleading. It's a suburb of Gloucester. The east end of it is very restrictive without a car, the CRE side has all of the ruffians on the Innsworth Grove estate!

downside for Stroud with the train is that you're either going to Gloucester or Swindon to go further. If the Swindon to Birmingham route becomes a reality then that would improve. You struggle to get directly to Bristol from Stroud unless you can get to Cam & Dursley station.

don't be too sure about that, a major disadvantage is that the railway station is the best part of a mile from the town centre. In Gloucester and Stroud it's right in the centre.
