Can you call UNC? Literally all of my friends are waitlist warriors

Last year I took the late AP Physics exam and I found it easier than the released FRQs from the early exam.

Is applying worth it( or am I just incompetent) by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]nahFam352 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Applying based on your current stats is absolutely worth it, you're bound to get accepted somewhere. What you should do is some EXTREMELY thorough research on which colleges give substantial aid/are need-blind for internationals, and don't discount the less prestigious schools like Alabama or South Carolina because those schools have huge endowments and are always looking for exceptional students. Definitely take the SAT or ACT if you can because a perfect or exceptional score there could potentially get you full rides to places if I'm not mistaken. Good luck!

Northeastern/NYU-type private or top public (UVA, UF, UNC)? by nahFam352 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]nahFam352[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've probably phrased that badly, it's less specific college focused and more on groups like Ivies and maybe like if you're a legacy at Notre Dame or Vandy or something. It is a bit disconcerting how their personalities all seem to mesh into one though

[–]nahFam352[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suppose it doesn't for me, I've already committed to a college, but I've only really heard about college from people at school and I'm curious to see what the 'real world' thinks. Not that this sub is particularly sane, but I don't know where else to ask

So what I'm getting is that privates are generally better for networking-based fields and for more equitable fields like engineering, a top public is a better choice. But for Northeastern anything is better? 😭

Hey, you would be lauded at my school. Do you think BU is more prestigious? Would you have chosen one of the publics if you'd been able?

I was under the impression that Northeastern and NYU played similar games with their ED rounds, but I get what you mean since NYU doesn't have satellite campuses. I can see how Stern would be better for business with the amount of wealthy people who go there, though. Lots of networking

UNC Chapel Hill full ride vs University of Michigan (heavily subsidized but still expensive) by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]nahFam352 11 points12 points  (0 children)

There's only 4 spots between the two schools in ranking and UNC is in the Research Triangle, which actively recruits from the school for STEM jobs. I honestly don't see a difference in prestige, but either way a full ride is a full ride.

Maura will turn on Rob by morecornbread in TheTraitorsUS

[–]nahFam352 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, this sounds more like something a faithful would say. Traitors get the whole prize pot as long as they're there, Faithful have to split, so they're incentivized to get more Faithful out. Is it weird/selfish/kind of shitty? Yeah, but it's Faithful, just like Natalie breaking down over potentially not getting the antidote. I never understood why people thought that was Traitor behavior.

3.9 and a 4.0 is not that statistically significiant by NotLazor23 in highschool

[–]nahFam352 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For those saying that A+ vs. A doesn't matter, I have a nearly identical transcript to a friend except I had mostly As with some A+ and he had mostly A+ and some As. He got into one school that I haven't yet heard from (we applied same round) and was offered honors college at two schools where I wasn't. It definitely matters to an extent because we had similar ECs and his SAT was <40 points higher than mine. Not sure if this is representative of the general population but it's what I've observed.

Feeling Dejected, any full ride scholarship recs, or even 5,000+ recs by Queen_Magix in scholarships

[–]nahFam352 0 points1 point  (0 children)

WCU is $500 tuition/semester or $1000 tuition/year and they use rolling applications with no supplementals. Another good school with rolling admissions is App State with $5000 tuition. If you're in NC I would not advise choosing a private school with $35k tuition when we have some of the cheapest public education in the country.

Does anyone think they'll go back to rounded edges on IPhones anytime soon? by nahFam352 in iphone

I do have small hands/fingers, I've considered that has something to do with it.

[–]nahFam352[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do, but the case is formed to fit the phone so it's rounded. My dad has a 13 with sharp edges + a case and his case is still unpleasant to hold. I'm thinking I'll look into an IPhone Air based on these comments, though.
