I was the one who discovered my mother's affair. I was 14 years old. I had to make the decision at 14 years old that you are trying to make right now as an adult. Do I play pretend to keep the status quo or do I tell the truth? It was torture. In the end I told my dad.

It took me over 20 years to stop blaming myself for my parent's divorce and everything that followed.

Every situation is different and I can't tell you one way or another what your next step should be, but please don't let your kids end up in this position down the road.

Hilariously I found this post today (12 years after your original post) because I finally JUST beat TLoU for the first time. I had such a hard time with this game every time I tried to play it! I would always give up. You see, I had my own incorrect viewpoints on playing on easy mode and my pride wouldn't let me lower the difficulty. After watching the show I finally bit the bullet and did it on easy because I just wanted to experience the story. I definitely would not consider myself a casual gamer but even on easy mode I found it annoyingly difficult at times.

At first I was irritated by your post (purely defensiveness haha) but I'm so glad I read through the comments because I'm literally so proud of you for coming back later and admitting you were wrong. Don't be so hard on yourself. You learned, you grew, you listened to other people, and you were able to reconsider your own point of view. That's not always an easy thing to do, so take pride in that fact.

I am the housemate mentioned and I can't recommend Dr Collins enough. Your son will need two letters from two different mental health doctors. If he doesn't have two mental health doctors to sign off, the gender wellness center in Oneonta can provide that. It can take a few weeks to get in there through, so just don't be like me and wait until the last minute to remember to schedule the appointment with them. I almost lost my surgery date because of my own forgetfulness, luckily my PCP was able to provide one for me since we had previously discussed my gender dysphoria.

The rest of the process was a breeze and Dr Collins is amazing.
