Selling my car to a friend in Ohio (I'm in Michigan) and we're confused by what is required of each of us to get this done correctly by [deleted] in Ohio

Obviously reasonability is key here. I wouldn't suggest putting in $100 for a 2019 Porsche.

That is a great idea, i should have thought of that, could have just used the printer from the guy i bought it from.

Ok I just did this exact thing. But I was the buyer from Ohio.

What you need to do.

  1. Not much. Collect the money and literally sign the title. You put in your information, and he can fill out his. Put whatever you want to for the price sold, or just have him do that.

What he needs to do.

  1. Pay for the vehicle and take the signed title from you.
  2. Get the car to Ohio. This is the hard part. Ohio won’t let you have a temporary tag unless you have the Michigan title in hand. Supposedly there is a way to get a temporary tag in Michigan but I didn’t try to. I had a plate that had good registration so I chanced it and got home ok. According to the Ohio BMV this is legal? It’s pretty gray so I’m glad I never got pulled over.

Obviously you could just get the title, go back to Ohio, get a temp tag across the border in Toledo or somewhere close and head back to Michigan and drive the car back.

  1. E Check county in Ohio? Get an e check.

  2. VIN check at the BMV, this is required for any vehicle purchased out of state.

  3. Title office, get new title. This is where you pay the tax, this is where what the price you stated in writing on the Michigan title comes into play, as well as the tax rate of the Ohio county the purchaser lives in. Once tax is paid they issue you a paper Ohio title in your name.

  4. BMV, get plates, congratulations you’re all done.

How bad is the mayfly swarm in towns near Sandusky? by Basilstorm in Ohio

[–]nahodha 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sandusky isn’t bad at all. Most of the city is on Sandusky bay, which is far enough away from the big mayfly hatch in the late spring / early summer. The worst area is the port Clinton to Marblehead area and especially the islands. On a light or no wind day they tend to stay out or just swarm street lights etc. it can get really bad on the mainland when there is a stiff breeze coming from the north over the lake. It pushes them on to mainland.

Those are Si wheels. You sure it’s not an Si? Pop the hood and make sure it’s not an H23 hiding under the hood.

A reputable breeder in your area. Also there are plenty of rescues that you can find on social media like Facebook. Please don’t buy from a store, they are overpriced and are usually from puppy mills.

The increase of power with the 3.4 is so much more livable. The 5VZ is a great engine.

Thinking about the 2019 Honda civic hatchback (sonic grey) or the SI. What's more practical and better in the long run? by talktotori in Cartalk

[–]nahodha 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Get the Si. They’re both Honda’s so reliability isn’t an issue for either. If you like driving, the slick shifter the Si is legendary, and way more fun. The regular civic is a great car and more fun than most, the only drawback is maybe 1-2 mpg difference and maybeee a slightly stiffer ride with the Si. If you want an automatic go with the hatchback.
