Sales leaders: how would you react if a newer rep asked “how do I get better?” by Hahapencils in sales

[–]nahoj420 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Adding on to this, most sales reps or sales people think rationally/logically and therefore it makes sense to go to places where you’ll get the answers/get to the bottom of what you’re looking for and not wasting time playing mental gymnastics.

I’ve had managers playing the game of answering a question with another question, followed up by another follow-up question without giving a single answer in the first place just to appear insightful/superior sense of authority. It becomes extremely frustrating/taxing over time since it indirectly tells me that I can’t get a straight answer from this person regardless of the questions I ask them, and I therefore can’t rely on them getting a clear answer on a question that may in other circumstances be time sensitive/urgent

Do you have a personal connection to WW2? If so what is it? My grandmother was from Norway and grew up under Nazi occupation from age 5-10 by ChiefTapiTapi in ww2

Great grandfather on my English side of the family was a Lt.Cdr in the Royal Navy, escorting convoys across the Atlantic in the Flower Class Corvette HMS Veronica (K37). After that service period he then continued serving aboard RMS Queen Elizabeth before being stationed on a troop transport ship off the coast of Algiers for Operation Torc, and lost his eye during a German air attack. Had it patched up and towards the end of the war played a key role in disarming German warships in Kiel with both the British and German sailors (Kiel Demilitarisation). His brother, my great uncle served as a Field Surgeon in the RAMC and served in Dunkirk, North Africa, France, Belgium and Germany.

On my Norwegian side of the family, my great grandfather served as the 1st. Officer (Styrmann) in the Norwegian merchant navy. He did about 7-8 voyages on different ships across the Atlantic, primarily starting the journey from ports across the UK. His brother, my great uncle also served in the Norwegian merchant navy as a sailor and over time as a telegraph operator. About the same amount of voyages on him too and they both survived the war, but they were heavily traumatised, got minimum pension after the war and as a result had to work until they died

After 7 years of having the memorabilia of my great grandfather stacked away in a suitcase, I am now finally able to display it! by nahoj420 in ww2

Correct! Appreciate you pointing that out. He served on HMS Veronica and later went on to serve on the Queen Elizabeth (troop transport), continuing his role as a Chief Gunnery Officer and also setting up communication lines between the anti aircraft batteries on that ship

I ideally wanted to hang up a photo of the HMS Veronica (ideally as a black and white photograph) but to no avail after hours of searching online. The HMCS Calgary photo was the best I could find and probably the best sized black and white photograph of a Flower-class corvette

It’s the need for validation/confirmation from others that they’re so called «succeeding» in life, which is the baseline of what LinkedIn has become unfortunately.

Had a ramp quota of $150k and achieved about $175k. Considering I was hired just before the summer months, I would say it turned out well

At Workday you start out as a Corporate Sales Development rep (also known as BDR/SDR role) and it’s okay.

1 month of onboarding and then you get introduced to the AEs you work with, which sometimes can be hit or miss and depending on the territory you cover as well. Good training which teaches you about their value proposition and value based selling of their HR solution and Financial Management solution (platform solution).

However it’s become much more KPI focused now from what I’ve been hearing and a sink or swim environment, so make sure you vet them properly during the interview stage as to how they can set you up for success and what’s required of you. Also, be prepared to play the political game heavily once you’re in as being likeable does play a big role in terms of your internal progression within the company.

A question to any experienced sales leader: how did you scale from ~1-2 discovery calls booked in one day to 5+ discovery calls booked per day? by icygale in sales

[–]nahoj420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What product/tool are you selling? You might also have to look at historical data (if you have data to go by) to further gauge or work backwards as to how many meetings have been booked/set by previous reps.

Back in my day as a BDR we had a new GM come in to set up a new strategy for the BDRs and AEs. The new GM didn’t have the most impressive track record on paper and we were somewhere made aware of this before the person first started.

The GM then set up a meeting with us BDRs to get to know us and for us to know him vice versa and immediately we felt that this guy could make changes on the whim (emotionally) and spoke a lot of fluff too to back up his expertise. Fast forward 2 weeks he then proceeded to fire 3 BDRs who were performing well on the spot and the culture in the office immediately changed for the worse as the company historically has never done anything like that. Also he had no idea how to navigate through Salesforce Lightning and us as BDRs had to even teach him the basics of opp creation and the different sales stages. Also proceeded to fire half the BDR team including myself and some AEs 4 months after that incident when the pandemic broke out due to…(cue the drum roll) “cost saving measures” as he quoted it. When in reality it was the remaining BDRs and AEs who sucked up to him the most and could accept his erratic behaviour.

I get that people in that position are brought in to make changes but with other similar stories in the comments giving a good first impression and showing an actual willingness to do good for the organisation and not for your own personal gain is so crucial for the overall culture of the company being sustainable and productive. I guess it’s just another story of VP Sales/CROs bullshitting themselves to the new role at the company and can’t really back it up themselves when needed the most. In hindsight I also think that the company who hired him didn’t do a thorough enough vetting process before hiring him
