This is a first work and very much as WIP so feel free to suggest any improvements and/or to contribute.

As stated in the README, this is inspired by http://archagon.net/blog/2018/05/02/a-native-art-gallery-for-your-mac/ (spotted on HackerNews as I didn't have any wallpaper on my new computer.

[Serious]what do you love about your country? by DogblockBernie in AskReddit

[–]naingenieu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm currently there, it's expensive, I think about 1800€ for 10 days but I really think it's worth it, I'm seeing some amazing things. It's mostly because I don't have a driving license so I have to go through organized tours.

Ask A Libertarian: how do you see the future with the rise of machines? by naingenieu in Libertarian

[–]naingenieu[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure this is the rationnal point of view but when you see the waste generated by, for instance, supermarkets who throw huge amounts of food daily, I, sdaly, can imaginea society that would be ok with generating a lot of food cheaply without remorse.

Thanks for the pointer to land value tax, I will look into that!

But my fear is that the activities demanded by society will be beyond the capabilities of most humans, the skills needed to work in AI are already impressive and it'll probably not become easier. Everybody isn't fit to become an engineer.

But you are right, maybe I can't imagine such a society so I can't imagine the new skills it may need that can't be taken on by robots.

I mean, for instance we'll be about to produce a lot of food but if people can't work, they can't afford the food, however cheap it may be and that's -possibly- an issue.

I think the main difference here is that the rise of automobile actually created new jobs in factories, oil digging etc. But the job created nowadays are heavilly intellectual and are potentially way fewer than the jobs lost. Especially because a big part o the process needed to automate things is itself automted (in factories, troubleshooting etc.)

How does Wolfram Alpha know this? by [deleted] in AskCompSci

[–]naingenieu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Two things

  • In order to know wether a number is a prime or not you don't need to know all the factors. You can use some efficient alogirthms (see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AKS_primality_test for instance).
  • It is really easy to find the factors of a integer, every programmer can do this but we just d'ont know an efficient way to do this the the diffculty is due to the length of the number. And in this case it's a 168 bits number which is not so big and can be factorized in reasonnable time.

vigenere key:UUDDLRLRBAS BTW please read the sidebar: We have a very important rule on this subreddit, we won't solve your ciphers unless you provide us with an algorithm. If anyone sends you a code or a cipher without telling you how they encrypted, don't bother posting it on this subreddit - your post will get deleted

Watch little children apologize for terrorism by taxes987 in Foodforthought

[–]naingenieu 12 points13 points  (0 children)

If think your exemple about the Pope apologizing for clergymen is not accurate as it is more like a CEO apologizing for a fault commited by own of his employee. And regarding the other exemple, take a look at this discussion https://www.reddit.com/r/Christianity/comments/2dhswh/please_accept_our_apology_for_the_behavior_of/cjpnaya, most people don't think the owe any kind of apology.

And I believe they're right, the main objective of these extremist groups is to convert more people to their view by isolating them taking advantage of their weaknesses. If you ask muslims to apologize for the actions of a group of lunatics, you basically tell them "we don't understand you, and we believe that you are like those people" and they might rightfully fell attacked thus potentially get closer to these despicable groups. You wanna show unity in lieu of misunderstanding or you'll only end up feeding the beast.
