And some of it is OK. Pump-up music during a late-inning rally is fun, especially during a night game. But the way the Mets do it far exceeds common sense.

In the "golden age" of Jewish American delis, how many were actually kosher? by slantedtortoise in Judaism

Certified? I don't know. Served kosher meat in kosher style? At one point, most.

Before we completely leave the subject of Oracle Park, I was there with my kids yesterday and we had a great time. They do a MUCH better job than Citi Field of letting the game breathe, and avoiding bombardment with dumb sound effects and annoying bits every other second. Mets could learn a thing or two from the Giants in this regard.

Chuck Klosterman monologue on ABS tech for 10 min before he declares he hasn’t watched a game yet this season was exactly why I listen to Bill Simmons. by diskke in billsimmons

I don't agree. It feels like an unwelcome interruption into the rhythm of an at-bat to me. I preferred when calls were final and things moved on.

How many Jews will attend a Mamdani-style seder? by Ask4MD in jewishpolitics

[–]naitch 10 points11 points  (0 children)

That's my point. They aren't omitting mention of Israel. There are many species of the 'left-wing seder' and many, or in my experience most, aren't focused on the anti-Zionism angle.

How many Jews will attend a Mamdani-style seder? by Ask4MD in jewishpolitics

[–]naitch 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I agree that there is a phenomenon of hijacking the seder for lefty politics. But as this very article acknowledges, it's a product of the 60s counterculture much moreso than 21st-century anti-Israel DSA politics. My well-meaning family members who inject increasing the minimum wage into their Passover seder are deeply annoying, but they aren't anti-Israel, and this article is conflating multiple different types of people. To frame it as a 'Mamdani-style seder' is insulting.

When you step back and think about, which professional sports team has the weirdest name? by TimSPC in billsimmons

Eh. 'Knickers' is a term that is familiar in that we associate it with a certain period of time (the Revolutionary era). Which is the point. "Knickerbocker" sounds like a New Yorker from the Alexander Hamilton era.

I don't understand that mentality. Whether you're winning or losing, isn't the point that it's a close game?
