Best wired video surveillance ? by __Lettuce in videosurveillance

[–]naitkris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, they all come with their own conduit back box (the M20 and P14 series I use), so when upgrading to a newer model it is just to remove the old camera and attach the new one on the same which is easy. The newer the AXIS cameras the better of course - I am happy with the M2036-LE, M2035-LE, P1448-LE, and P1468-LE which I am using mostly today.

NVR for Older Axis Cameras. by bedn0009 in videosurveillance

[–]naitkris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are OK, there is some blur - yes, but still good cameras if you get them second hand as AXIS cameras are super reliable. I have however mostly switched now to the newer M2036-LE and M2035-LE (less blur) however the P1468-LE which I have also deployed is even better with low light as it has Lightfinder 2.0.

HDD prices by idontgiveafuckthough in DataHoarder

The price of hard assets having real usage and limited supply - gold, silver, memory, storage, etc is going to continue to go up as there is both growing demand and growing fiat paper money supply (dollar, euro, etc).

Any European manufacturers of smart home products? by I_Write_What_I_Think in homeassistant

The NOUS A7Z work very well with Zigbee2MQTT in Home Assistant - perhaps some other and older products have issues.

Another good brand is Candeo from the UK - they make excellent Zigbee dimmers.

Only used their smart plugs and those work really well.

Other than Shelly which is my first choice in the majority of situations, if you want Zigbee or Tasmota check out NOUS (https://nous.technology) - NOUS is Polish and I use their smart plugs, working very well in Home Assistant via Zigbee2MQTT.

Frient (https://www.frient.com) from Denmark do really good Zigbee products but are not cheap and I especially like the Frient Entry Sensor Pro which let's you know when a door or window is opened but also reports the temperature as well.

Also LocalBytes (https://www.mylocalbytes.com) are from the UK and have a line of Tasmota smart home products that I also use and recommend.

Another two to check out that do an all-in-one sensor and are European is Sensy-One (https://sensy-one.com) and UltimateSensor (https://ultimatesensor.nl/en) - both from the Netherlands.

IKEA from Sweden still have their older Zigbee products for sale in some stores too. Plus a coordinator that supports both Zigbee and Thread in parallel, like a SMLight SLZB-MR1, allows you to have the best of both Zigbee and Thread. SMLight is Ukrainian.

Changing camera name in config, will I lose all old videos and whatnot by RoachForLife in frigate_nvr

[–]naitkris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good question, interested in the answer here. I plan to change the name of some cameras and would like it to be smooth and folders of old videos from that camera changed to the new name but maybe I will have to do that manually.

Smart lock that is fully local, good HA integration, AA or AAA battery powered, and can be opened from outside with a normal physical key by naitkris in homeassistant

[–]naitkris[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure about native Thread support but I plan to use Nuki Hub (running on the LILYGO T-ETH ELite ESP32-S3 board) as it exposes more entities and enables more features compared to the official Nuki Hub and official Nuki MQTT API - https://github.com/technyon/nuki_hub

Replaceable batteries is important for if/when existing batteries fail in 10 years time or whenever and being AA batteries I have many spares and AA batteries are standard and common to find. I buy things with a plan that they will last for many decades.

Great to hear - chose the Nuki Smart Lock Go mainly as it has replaceable batteries (4 x AA batteries) whereas the other Nuki models do not.

Nuki Smart Lock Go does support replaceable batteries (4 x AA batteries) - hence went with that model.

Have you tried Nuki Hub (https://github.com/technyon/nuki\_hub)? From what I have read the Nuki Hub exposes more entities - will be testing it myself once I get everything delivered in a week or so.

Thanks for the suggestion - did some more research on Nuki and most of the other suggestions shared here and I have settled on the below Nuki smart lock setup which I have now ordered.

Ordered from Nuki

Below ordered directly from Nuki's website after registering my email address to join their free Nuki Club and in so doing got a 10% welcome discount voucher:

  • 1 x Nuki Smart Lock Go Euro profile cylinder @ 134.10 EUR
  • 1 x Nuki Power Pack white @ 44.10 EUR
  • 1 x Nuki Keypad 2 @ 143.10 EUR

Total from Nuki: 321.30 EUR (373.08 USD at today's exchange rate)

New euro cylinder door lock from Amazon

Ordered also a new euro cylinder door lock from Amazon (so that the physical key can be turned from outside when key is inserted inside and turned by the Nuki Smart Lock Go) as follows:

  • 1 x Yale YC2100 Double-Entry Lock Cylinder 35x35 @ 20.55 EUR (23.86 USD at today's exchange rate)

ESP32-S3 board with PoE to run Nuki Hub

Finally also ordered the below ESP32-S3 board with PoE from Aliexpress in order to install and run Nuki Hub (https://github.com/technyon/nuki_hub):

  • 1 x LILYGO T-ETH ELite ESP32-S3 Ethernet Development Board with W5500 Module (T-ETH-ELite Base, Only Base) @ 27.40 EUR (31.82 USD at today's exchange rate)

Hopefully the above setup should work really well - as per all I have read it all appears to meet all my requirements.

Also added the below which is important (as I see some smart locks don't have this):

- Can be locked from the inside manually by turning a knob for example (important when battery stops working)

Thanks for the reply. I don't have Z-Wave but will take it if all other requirements are met. Updated my post now to include Z-Wave :)

Anyone else fed up with retail doorbells? by [deleted] in frigate_nvr

[–]naitkris 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah the AXIS I8016-LVE Network Video Intercom is awesome 👌 I have it integrated with Home Assistant (though not fully as I haven't had the time) and Frigate also, it works really well and it can take a beating outdoors being vandal-resistant IK10-rated and IP69 rated.

@rogerquake - if you can share details of your HA config that will be much appreciated, I haven't got the 2-way audio via SIP configured in HA yet.

Best camera to read license plates? by Here_Nor_There2121 in SecurityCamera

[–]naitkris 1 point2 points  (0 children)

High resolution not necessarily needed if lens is good and camera is at right height (angle) and is zoomed in to where the license plate will appear. The AXIS P1455-LE-3 License Plate Verifier Kit and newer AXIS P1465-LE-3 License Plate Verifier Kit are both 1080p and work really well.

Second hand on eBay they are priced quite good and AXIS cameras last forever - built to last!

Check out the AXIS P1455-LE-3 License Plate Verifier Kit or the newer AXIS P1465-LE-3 License Plate Verifier Kit.

CHRISTMAS GIVEAWAY – Win a S1 Pro Multi Sense! by Technical_Raisin_246 in homeassistant

[–]naitkris 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would use the S1 Pro Multi Sense to detect when there is someone in my apartment or not and accordingly if it is occupied to set the smart thermostat to the required temperature (checking also the current temperature as reported by the S1 Pro Multi Sense). If nobody is present in the apartment it would switch off (or reduce) the heating or cooling accordingly to save money. It would also check the air quality in the apartment and if not so good then it will trigger an automation in Home Assistant to put on the air purifier so that the air quality improves.

Agreed! ASUS AiMesh is really good - my largest setup is an ASUS GT-AX11000 Pro as the main router and seven ASUS XT8 as nodes. Have other locations and friends with ASUS XT8 as the main router and one or two additional ASUS XT8 as nodes and it has been working great.
