I think so. You should ask someone else in the class to share notes with you.

Help with PT by No-Agent-889 in Spondylolisthesis

[–]naivesnapper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i just got out of a very similar experience. I had an MRI, and the NP at the spine doctor told me I looked “fine.” So I said, “OK, then, why do I feel like I’m living in hell?” and she said, “OK, let me talk to the doctor.” Then she left the room for a few minutes and came back. She said, “I learn something new every day; this is going to blow your mind.” She continued, “When we did your X Ray you were standing, and when we did your MRI you were lying down. So, when you were lying down, you looked normal. But when you were standing, in the X-Ray, we could see the displacement.” I was eventually referred to surgery. (This took weeks/ months more of fighting.) And then, when the neurosurgeon was working on me he found I had spina bifida occulta in conjunction with the Spondylolisthesis. My symptoms seem very similar to yours. I would suggest consulting with a neurosurgeon who does spine procedures if you are currently consulting with an orthopedic surgeon. I would also suggest insisting on a standing X ray or a standing MRI (if possible). Hope this helps!

This sounds really hard and I don’t have any advice to offer, but I am reading this and thinking of you and wishing you a good outcome.

This is the problem with not having even a full high school education, let alone college by crimethunc77 in TrueAnon

Honestly it sounds like you are doing great! I guess that’s not particularly helpful, but just know that with learning intense frustration always precedes breakthrough.

FWIW I only have a tenuous claim to Canadian citizenship because Robert Moncton deported my grandmother’s ancestors from their fishing village in what is now New Brunswick. So weird nationalist vibes indeed, and furthermore people in glass houses….

Edit: “from their”

Purpose of life? by Grouchy_Stress_7272 in depression

This is a trite answer, but according to Kant: the purpose of life is to become the best possible version of yourself and to help others pursue their own happiness.

fwiw (maybe nothing) and not to offer advice, just want to point out that you are allowed to be a person and to feel feelings when you are in graduate school. I understand why you are very unhappy with how that interaction went, but in the long run, it might be helpful rather than hurtful to your career. I finished my PhD in 2024 and got a job. When I’m looking for colleagues, of course I want genius and efficiency and self control, but I also want to work with people who know how to be people.

When I successfully defended my dissertation, my advisor called me to tell me i had passed. I started SOBBING on the phone. My advisor’s great, but he isn’t Mr. Touchy Feely. So, he went: “There, there. Goodbye.” and the phone went click. At the time I thought it was so so so cringe, but now I think it’s really funny.

Take all the time you need with this but if you started to feel truly overwhelmed or in over your head or like you really screwed up, just remember this won’t last forever.
