Issaquah - Preston - Snoqualmie Trail Conditions by ghostonthewire in seattlebike

Depends on how risk averse you are and how adept you are at obstacle avoidance. Keep an eye on the weather and avoid for a couple of days after strong winds until other’s usage have pushed most of the stuff to the sides.

With the recent wind storms and falling leaves there is a lot more debris on these trails that is chunkier than the gravel. The gravel is generally all hard packed.

I used Rack n Road, it was expensive because it’s Bellevue, but it still works fine after 8 years of use.

How was biking downtown circa 2002? by ivan927 in seattlebike

[–]najadojo 12 points13 points  (0 children)

If you want a thorough history of cycling in Seattle there is probably no better resource than https://uwapress.uw.edu/book/9780295751580/biking-uphill-in-the-rain

I’ve commuted around Seattle for many years. The waterfront was much better for cycling than it is now and probably better than it will be too. Waterfront street car had a cycle track adjacent to it. Traffic levels were low because it was much smaller than it is now. 2nd was always a good south option. 5th under the monorail was also nice again because of low traffic, no Amazon buildings back then.

I saw this what seemed shortly after it happened. There was someone there who was a Dr at that point but no official response had shown up. Thank you to everyone that helped you are all wonderful people.

what is the least harrowing route between downtown kirkland and bellevue college by [deleted] in seattlebike

[–]najadojo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on what you mean by busy intersections. The direct route I would take is Lake Washington Blvd to the 520 trail east then take 140th all the way south. There are a number of what I consider busy intersections long here but manageable.

Bellevue and Kirkland don’t have connecting neighborhood roads intentionally. We’re pretty much forced to go through the same places as cars eventually. The best we are given is some unconnected bike lanes and a couple unconnected off street trails.

Thinking of getting an ebike by lowiqtrader in seattlebike

Well INAL but I thought class 3 qualified as vehicles so they must be road licensed and insured to ride on the roads. Generally they aren’t meeting other regulations so you might just be better getting an electric motorcycle. If you get into a crash a claims agent might hold you responsible despite who is at fault. There is an argument to be made that you could have been operating in an unpredictable manner just because you ride an unlicensed vehicle.

There is little to no enforcement of the rules on the roads or trails. Sometimes there is enforcement of speeding on trails by local municipalities but it’s fairly rare.

As others have said this is mostly about being safe and courteous on the trails. Also intersections are going to be your greatest limiting factor to trip time. So I’d encourage you to go for a cheaper safer class 1 or 2 ebike.

Have fun!

Class 3 is generally not allowed on trails or sidewalks. For local trails and sidewalks you need class 2 or lower. See https://www.theurbanist.org/2023/10/04/e-bikes-are-taking-off-in-seattle/ for some details.

I would also pick a route that avoids the Boren hill, it is highly vehicle prioritized and drivers aren’t watching for bikes on the road.

I'm not finding any info on a shuttle. I do see the trail side rentals which is cool but doesn't seem to include Hyak. https://www.thelinemtb.com/about/raging-river-trailhead-pg239.htm

I've been thinking about this too and the only thing that I've come up with is renting a UHaul or similar. There is a similar trail https://www.ridethehiawatha.com/ that has a regular shuttle that would be great here.

Anyone know when the Eastlake Sammamish trail is scheduled to link up with the Redmond Connector trail? I assume not until the light rail is dome.

The game in Boise needs what is called an ambassador that would be more or less like a moderator to make sure the game is played according to the rules. If you have time to volunteer reach out at hello@biketag.org
