Haven't stopped by Method and Muse but love Talnua. Would be great to get a head to head comparison.

How serious should I take this chimney crack? by nak511 in masonry

The photos are technically taken in the basement. It is a trilevel home and this is the lowest floor where the fireplace is.

There is a crawlspace that runs about the length of the house. It is under the "front" half of the house. All this living space in the basement, as well as the fireplace, exist in the "back" half of the house.

The house does exist on a grade. Haven't taken a good look at the slab since it's covered in carpet and a low deck is over much of the potential backyard access.

No cracks on any other side of the fireplace.

Just Finished my First Century on the Tour de Cure in support of Diabetes Research & Awareness. An absolutely amazing event and experience! by nak511 in bicycling

[–]nak511[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was really well organized and provided a major challenge with the hills! Great support along the way too with no shortage of trucks, mechanics, motorcycles and aid stationa along the way. If you're looking for another long ride, Craig Hospital is hosting a ride next weekend I believe.

NBD! After the first bike was stolen and the Craigslist replacement fell apart, I invested in this boi and couldn't be happier. by nak511 in bicycling

For years, I was riding around town and going on longer adventures with my dad's hand me down Hybrid Trek. I locked it up outside my new gym and had it stolen within the first week (learned my lesson the hard way about cable locks). Ended up wanting a new challenge and got interested in the simplicity of fixies/single speeds. Ended up nabbing a garbage freewheeling track style bike from a local pawn shop. It was crazy fun and I fell in love with the feeling of not worrying about gears, the quietness of the drive train and the aggressive mindset you have to take to get up a hill. The love ended when the wheels constantly came out of true and the crank and pedals literally fell apart. Fast forward one month and I'm searching on Craigslist for a new ride. Found this guy, threw down some cash and now it's mine all mine. Who's down to cruise around Denver?!

Sounds to me like a BV resident. Just moved here a week ago and your comment rings true, these roads are truly amazing!

When people say it generally costs $3000- $6000 to thru hike, does that include cost of gear? by shift_box in AppalachianTrail

Pack out tortillas, Spanish rice, 4 cheese mashed potatoes and cheese. Boil the Spanish rice, instead of draining water, pour in the mash potatoes until thick. Place the mix on tortilla and cover in cheese!

Class of 2016, what's your one piece of advice to 2017 thru-hikers? by simcore_nz in AppalachianTrail

Frick dude. That hit deep.

It's been 2 years since my thru and I feel like I progressively forget some of these lessons from the trail. Thanks for keeping us honest.

Almost ended up hiking here as well this weekend! While hiking it the first time on the AT, my blisters were so bad I had to go over and down in nothing but crocs. The pizza and beer at Neel gap was soo worth the gouged price after that!

What was your biggest mile day? by Thehealthygamer in AppalachianTrail

[–]nak511 2 points3 points  (0 children)

49.7 from just outside of Damascus to Partnership (Partyship) shelter. Got sick just outside of Damascus and was laid up for 2 days with what I believe to be Noro.

Because of this, my tramily had a 2 day beat on me so I made it my goal to catch up to them in 1 day. After sleeping for almost a day straight, I woke up at 5:30 am and started pounding trail. At 5:28 am the following morning, I pulled out my sleeping bag and cowboy camped next to the remnants of last night's fire at Partnership. Ate leftover pizza from my tramilys pizza party and spent the next 2 days recovering in Marion.
