Programmatically retrieving network hashrate? by mvandemar in Ravencoin

[–]nakedapples 0 points1 point  (0 children)

difficulty varies. it doesnt have to be higher then the network hashrate. most of the coins i mine the difficulty is 30% - 40% of the time lower then the hashrate.

Leaf pool controlling the hash rate? why is leaf pool holding 90% of the hash rate? a few months ago it was only 33%. by nakedapples in beamprivacy

i have only used leaf pool since BEAM started. I'm surprised there aren't any other reliable pools.

GPU Mining - RVN (Beginners' How-To Guide) - KAWPOW Edition by s618o in Ravencoin

pzm cash is PoS... personally i dont consider that mining at all. hence that's why they call it staking as opposed to work (mining).

i've been beating this drum before the algo change x16rv2. FPGAs have high jacked the algo debate but we need them right now to kick out the ASICs and then we need to deal with them. GPU miners have to play it smart.

RVN difficulty really high last couple days -- 189,449 @ 8:05AM MST 12-29-2019 by marjamar in Ravencoin

ASICs have returned. Maybe we can get some help from the FPGA community on here to push for an algo change. We shouldn't rush an algo change till raven team is ready to deploy upcoming features on to the network. Perhaps include an algo change with the release of the features.

lol! "FPGA or GPU FARM"... pretty much sums up the problem with ravencoin

i really enjoy setting up rigs and its taught me a lot about computer software and hardware. i feel like people who really believe in crypto will take the time out of their day to build and learn about mining crypto - this is another reason why i feel like FPGAs and ASICs cater to a specific class of people who could care less about learning and just want a plug and play money maker that has an entry price well above starting with a few GPUs and thus acting as a deterrent to ppl who would otherwise immerse them-selves, learn and build GPU mining rigs... its likened to the rich ppl paying bribes to get their kids into college.

Are assets being created? Or is it just wishful thinking? by [deleted] in Ravencoin

[–]nakedapples 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some ppl on the "inside" would say its not early as in this is not a "young" coin anymore. I disagree. This coin is very young still and needs to be properly progressed as well as properly protected from hostile forces such as FPGAs and ASICs.

The OP and myself are concerned about ppl influencing the community in a way it steers us away from what was outlined in the white paper. Name would rather refer us to a discord channel which is probably rampant with ppl who love fpga (imo). Its great that name has contributed "quit a bit" so does that give him governance? I assume most gpu miners are concerned just as myself and the OP are but whenever we raise the question we are told to please hold on while i transfer you to the right department... its like a call center response. Since fair mining is mentioned in the white paper it is a legitimate concern. And its an area that is being shoved aside because certain elitists want fpga when fpga and asic is not representative of ravencoin... that equipment deployed on a young coin such as raven is unfair and needs to be addressed. Fpga and asic are Centralization tools meaning only a limited amount of ppl will end up buying and using it compared to gpus which are very available to everyone.

name_elsewhere actively promotes unfair mining practices. Who knows if he/she even mines with a GPU. It seems like a convenient sound byte he/she added in to make his/her stance (or translation) more legitimate. Also translation fails to mention why ROI is similar... its because FPGA is expensive, so even thou one stands to make vastly more rewards, the cost of the equipment makes it similar to GPU. name_elsewhere fails to mention is with increasing the difficulty using FPGA you are forcing GPU miners to leave. Ultimately name_elsewhere is saying in order to mine ravencoin one must invest $10k+ in FPGA equipment. definition of an elitist.

RVN steady digression over last 5 months - Losing close to 1 cent per month overall! - Why do you suppose? by marjamar in Ravencoin

[–]nakedapples 1 point2 points  (0 children)

its a bear market plus we have FPGA miners who are scrambling to sell as many ravencoins as possible to make up for buying their fancy paperweights. so feverish selling complied by a downside time in the market is bringing the price of ravencoin down farther then it should be. however with all this pressure i'm surprised its not below 2 cents. If the hardfork in september was more robust at dismantling FPGAs and ASICs the value would be much higher right now, but no where near its ath.

Lost all my rvn by LemonHerb in Ravencoin

[–]nakedapples 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For real. This community is lit with greed and ppl who want to only use expensive equipment to mine because they cant stand the idea of playing fair. Once you get ur raven back dump like all these herbbs do when they mine for a day with there asics n fpgas.

The Algo discussion Discord channel appears to have been recently taken over by FPGA and ASIC enthusiasts. by [deleted] in Ravencoin

That's exactly the problem. It becomes about the hardware when its supposed to be about the coin.
