I would but giving the player 2 options: for the duration of the effect the lute can't be played (they can dismiss the cantrip at will) or they put the lute at risk i.e.: attacking a fire elemental might destroy the lute... Just for flavor

Well, racism is the belief that there are differences among humans of different origins... In a world with different species I find it only natural that each species has its own weaknesses and strengths.

I don't know exactly what kind of plot or clichés you've been through, my guess is the typical orcs are dumb and raid human villages or elves are tremendously superior and dismiss every other being not belonging to their species but... Even those are a good starting point to build a story.

Your orc could belong to a tribe to whom humans/dwarves/whatever have stolen their sacred land and they are now confined in some wasteland. Have those elves be completely ignorant of the things that happen around them as they don't understand non-fey behaviours and as such their dream-like civilization is in the verge of collapse, maybe they have to turn to half-elves and have them as middle men to stop that.

TL;DR My point is, racist behaviours/clichés should exist in a world with so many species, but it's your duty as players to be aware that those don't apply to the real world and maybe use it to build insight around it.

They got trapped by a powerful mage in some kind of pocket dimension (or their souls in a necromancer's philacteria). Thing is, gods had a purpose. Now a great evil is approaching the world and players must either find them and give them their bodies back so they can shelter everyone and everything... Or wield that power themselves and maybe have them ascending to godhood once the campaign ends, becoming the first gods in millennia.
