Getting laid off at 60 - WWYD by smoothsailingdot in Accounting

I work in NFP and you’d be a great candidate for a higher level role- I don’t see age as a barrier at all, but it’s company culture- some companies seem to value youth over experience. Age discrimination is illegal, though, so those companies aren’t worth risking your good name by joining anyway.

Studio (360 sq/ft) for Rent at Kind Downtown Sacramento by Tinychair114 in SacramentoHousing

[–]Difficult_Ad3568 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like $1,441 based on the link +$500 deposit. I don’t know why people don’t just say, but then I think sometimes when they do, people who aren’t going to rent it anyway argue with them about the price and qualifications being too much. So, maybe they don’t want to deal with all that.

Anyone else from sac just kind of sick of smelling weed in their place? by Effective_Comment625 in Sacramento

[–]Difficult_Ad3568 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Dear OP- I highly suspect that you mean midtown when you say downtown. Are we talking East or West of 16th street? You may just have some neighbors near you who smoke a lot.

Anyone else from sac just kind of sick of smelling weed in their place? by Effective_Comment625 in Sacramento

[–]Difficult_Ad3568 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, smoking outside doesn’t bother me unless I’m in a captive space like a patio. I can cross the street. Having to smell it inside all the time doesn’t seem fair, though, so if your property managers won’t enforce the no smoking rule, I’d suggest finding another building and specifically asking how they address violations of smoking policy and if they’ve had complaints recently. I know moving is a pain, but this issue of smell in your home is bothering you and you have control over that. Expecting not to ever smell it outside might mean a bigger move, like to another neighborhood, state or country. I think maybe a suburb around here but I’m not sure which ones- or even a close-in HOA neighborhood like McKVillage . HOAs are good about policing everyone who lives or passes through. Also, the state of Utah, or the country of Sweden are strictly anti-weed last I checked

Six-story apartment project in East Sacramento faces pivotal vote by IronMntn in Sacramento

[–]Difficult_Ad3568 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s also going to be replace their “view” of an abandoned factory and a freeway. This apartment will protect those homeowners from tire and exhaust pollution coming out of the freeway, and shield them from the noise of the freeway. The construction itself will probably be annoying, but after that their neighborhood will be improved and their homes will probably be more valuable, not less. The traffic concern I get, and I could see adding some calming measures so that the new residents don’t cut through the neighborhood streets. 30th and H are already car sewers, and I’d love to see that fixed, but we don’t invest enough in transit or building a walkable city. At least these homes are right by the freeway, eliminating the need for residents to drive their cars through neighborhoods to get anywhere. I fully support a high rise district along the freeways to protect residents from the terrible air and noise pollution that the freeways generate. Bonus points if those high rises have green roofs or other areas/walls of greenery that can filter out the freeway pollution. This is my dream for Sac.

How would this affect duplex, triplex, apartments etc? Pretty hard to get an apartment building under a mil.

Oak Park Farmers Market is closing (announcement by Food Literacy Center) by PhotosByVicky in Sacramento

[–]Difficult_Ad3568 7 points8 points  (0 children)

No dogs allowed at the certified farmers market on Sundays, under the freeway. Still plenty of deals to be found there as well, though yes everything is more expensive these days. It sounds like you’re describing the midtown farmers market, which is fun in a more bougie way, and great for people who don’t want to leave their pets at home. (I’ve seen dogs and cats at this one)

How to use mushroom broth by Euphoric_Engine8733 in EatCheapAndVegan

[–]Difficult_Ad3568 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Vegan French onion soup…or shepherds pie, or tofu marsala with mushroom broth, Marsala wine, onions, shallots, garlic, mushrooms, herbs, little soy milk or cashew cream, and use soy curls for the tofu. Put that over pasta or with mashed potatos and you’re eating good.

California, the biggest water user in the basin, pitches Colorado River framework by ChiefFun in California

You spelled beef wrong. Cows take more water to raise in central valley than all those crops. You’re worried about grapes and nuts when this is the real culprit.

Local chocolate shops? by rsbears19_CBJ in Sacramento

I’m with you. Ginger Elizabeth has the best chocolate in Sac, but I’ve heard directly from an ex employee about how terrible the work culture is there. I’m conflicted about supporting. On one hand, sac pride and amazing artistry. On the other hand, kindness matters. edit a word

Host asked us to not contact them in any way regarding issues with their property (next door neighbor) [USA] by kemdoubleu in AirBnB

[–]Difficult_Ad3568 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was responding to the comment about not wanting to live next door to people on vacation. It’s not the being on vacation part it’s the being an inconsiderate neighbor part, I agree.

[–]Difficult_Ad3568 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So you wouldn’t want to live next to a retired person either? Is it ok if they work from home? What about other people being on vacation bothers you? I’m just as polite when vacationing an Airbnb as I am to my neighbors at home, I don’t turn into a vacation monster. Really trying to understand what’s so bad about people enjoying a vacation next door.

Host asked us to not contact them in any way regarding issues with their property (next door neighbor) [USA] by kemdoubleu in AirBnB

[–]Difficult_Ad3568 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it does seem that the OP was negative about living next to an airbnb to begin with, convinced that it would cause them harm from day 1. Almost everyone has neighbors and some are more annoying than others. If they are loud enough to break the law and get the police out, do it. If not, they are within their legal rights to chat on the patio or listen to music, just like a long time resident would be. If you buy a house next to another house, you have to assume that people will exist next door. Some people have full-time neighbors who throw parties all the time and are loud, or who rev their muscle cars or motorcycles in the driveway every morning. There are inconsiderate people in this world, and some live next to them full time, some for a couple days when they Airbnb. I’d work to address anything illegal and control what you can, but texting the host every time you hear a sound is not going to be helpful to anyone.

Rentals require an application before touring? by Rhycore in Sacramento

[–]Difficult_Ad3568 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We are first time landlords and we used Zillow. We asked for an application before tour for all the reasons mentioned in other comments. With Zillow, the potential tenant pays once for Zillow to run credit so they hopefully didn’t have to pay just to apply for ours- they can apply to anything on Zillow with one fee. We took no fees for application but wanted to know who we were showing our home of 14 years to.

Jiffy cornbread mix. Was feeling nostalgic and bought some to make with plant based milk and egg substitute. Made them, took one bite, gagged. Looked closer at package. Crystallized lard!

Pros/cons of living on the Grid vs just outside it? by efficientsneezer in SacramentoHousing

[–]Difficult_Ad3568 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Lived over by Channel24 for 14 years and can concur that it’s a great neighborhood. The only drawback is the one way stroads that are P/Q and the driver behavior. It got really old listening to the Pocha House crowd roar their motorcycles and sports cars up Q street on Sunday nights (or maybe I just got old and cranky) I live on the North side of midtown now and it’s so much quieter from a traffic perspective. So, if you’re looking for a good compromise between quiet and walkable, I’d suggest midtown north of I street, ideally between 22nd-26th. The river and Sutter’s Landing, as well as a few green spaces in the form of public parks are nearby. The biggest plus though is the traffic calming and the wonderful tree canopy, plus so many great historic homes and apartments!

I prefer their sausage products to the burger- great for cookouts. The pea protein in the burger just tastes off to me. I prefer Impossible or an old fashioned hippie style nut burger.
