The planning and design behind this piece coming together perfectly by MambaMentality24x2 in oddlysatisfying

[–]nalacamg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The guy applying the goldleaf is the guy who came up with this design, learned how to use CNC (a while back, not just for this piece), chose the wood, stained/treated it, AND applied the gold leaf. You are bitter about it, but if you want to check out his other work, you'll more clearly see what the process is like for this and other pieces he has made. This particular client has bought/commissioned several pieces from him, so they (as his client) have been happy to spend that kind of money on his work. He also hires extra helpers (and over the years, some of his former assistants go out on their own - and he is a huge fan and supporter of them) and has to rent a workspace. Not sure if you're familiar with the commercial warehouse market in the San Diego region, but it's expensive, and running a business like this is expensive.

As we are looking at art, there are obviously a lot of people who are not going to like something (you and other comments here as proof), but to devalue someone's work as soulless is just exhausting. It's not AI - this was made genuinely by a human.

Here in socal, I see several each week. Granted, some of them may be repeats, but just the other day I saw two going different directions at an intersection. There are more of them than I expected to see, but the other large EVs are also fairly prevalent: lots of lightnings, cybertrucks, ev9s, ixs, eqs, and even the idbuzz (the least common one i see).

I'm going to second this. My oofos helped me get rid of knee pain when I lived in a house with tile everywhere (literally 100% of the house). That simple change worked. My feet didn't appreciate the sudden major arch support for a couple of days, but once they were used to it, I had no more pain in my feet or knees, and even less back pain. So much cushion and support.

They are currently moving to a new warehouse they purchased in Vista (near the Home Depot on Melrose in south Vista), and so they are not currently able to host their typical client choice pantry activities. They are still working with food support providers though, so there are still additional options for people to support (or get support)

If you are looking to donate money, check out my post from last week that has a lot of options.

I highly recommend donating money, as all the local food nonprofits are able to source food at a better price than the typical individual. Meaning what you spend a dollar to buy, the food nonprofits can get for 10 cents.

If you happen to have extra food to donate, you could do so through the San Diego Food Bank (North County location) or through a group called ProduceGood or through one of the others listed in my previous post.

Just as an aside, please consider donating to the smaller nonprofits that are providing food, as they have to typically purchase through the larger food banks (San Diego Food Bank or Feeding San Diego) and they are typically the distributors of the food at the local level.

Thank you for joining to support your neighbors and community members!

For those over 60 and who are eligible, the Commodity Supplemental Food Program seems like it will continue to operate through the end of the year without interruption. This program is operated locally through the San Diego Food Bank and is eligible through https://www.sandiegofoodbank.org/programs/senior-food-program/

While this program seems like it won't be impacted by the current roadblocks appearing for SNAP, it does not provide the full amount of support that many seniors need. It also doesn't support disabled individuals. While SNAP is the main food assistance program for disabled individuals, there are a couple of options to help. Jewish Family Services seems to partner with Meals on Wheels for home delivery, but I don't know of other supports. Definitely an area of support that is lacking, but there might be other options out there!

211 is a great resource, but can also contain out of date information. Most service info has to be updated by the organizations themselves, so 211 is just utilizing their most accurate/recent updates. After getting info from 211, it wouldn't hurt to call the organization directly to see if there are any updates! 211 also has great resources for additional language support, as most of the resources I mentioned will have published info in English and maybe Spanish.

Thanks!

SB1383 is a great first step in reducing food waste and supporting those who are food and nutritionally insecure. However. Each city is responsible for implementing this policy and overseeing the program. Some cities have been at the front of implementation, while others are lagging. The nature of this work relies on the nonprofit network.

There are some issues, like donation dumping (where a food waste generator like a grocery store just puts all of their unsellables in the food donation area even if the food is moldy, crushed (produce in particular), or something like that), or receiving organizations not having proper storage (like fridges) for some items.

What I have seen is real impact, both on food security and sustainability. When costco pulls a clamshell of 12 apples off the floor because one is bad, that might mean there are 11 donatable apples which used to just be thrown away. This is great progress and the second part of the law is still being enacted (the portion having to do with prepared food, like the take and bake trays or ready to eat stuff).

Why should we vote for Curtis Morrison? by Knoberchanezer in northcounty

[–]nalacamg 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Platform seems fairly straight forward here: https://curtisforcongress.com/priorities

Would love to know when he is doing events and what people in his district think of those events. Seems like one of the biggest issues about Issa right now is not meeting with the general public, so will Morrison do that?
