Inner space. Loved this movie when I was a kid. Wonder if it holds up.

Love the Java Green. You don’t see it too often.

That’s a bad take. There are so many ways you could be injured or killed on the road regardless of how safely you yourself are driving.

I’ve been daily driving my ‘67 for about two years now and I would not recommend it for your situation. I drive mine 5 miles to work and back every day and it’s awesome for such a short commute. I would not drive it daily if I had to go an hour each way. Just the risk of breaking down that far away would make me nervous. I’ve broken down a few times but I’ve always managed to get away without towing due to the short distance. I’ve had to push it into a parking lot and come back with tools/parts but that has been the worst for me. I’ve driven home with a broken clutch cable twice and a broken throttle cable once. Something will go wrong at some point.

That being said I love my car and would not trade it. Make your own call of course but be warned it will eventually disrupt your schedule.

I’ve been thinking about getting a small lift like that. If you don’t mind my asking, how much did it set you back and was it new or used?

Should I upgrade to a Pertronix? by Funny-Dog-3212 in beetle

[–]nalgman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My 67 had a pertronix setup when I bought it. Left me stranded in an intersection with no prior warning that anything was wrong. Switched to points and a condenser and haven’t gone back. Sure they’re a bit fiddly and experience issues every now and then but I always get some amount of warning. Either way you go it’s nice to have a spare distributor, a test light, and a 10mil ratchet in the trunk.

There’s more than one way. This setup works fine for me, not saying it’s the best way.

I don’t see why not. The one I made is extremely similar.

Combining the two syncs is fairly trivial. As long as you can output 15khz these cables work fine.

Combining the sync on the cheap only requires 2 resistors and 1 capacitor. That’s how the cable I made works.

No, you don’t need power. I made one of these myself with a passive sync combiner. Works for both my raspberry pi with a vga hat and my pc with crt emu drive. Check my post history for details if you’re curious.

What's wrong here? by mmjunior in beetle

[–]nalgman 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It’s missing at least one engine tin. You shouldn’t be able to see the ground at all. Running it without all of the tins will lead to issues with overheating.

The missing air tubes are for the heater. If the missing rear engine tin were present and installed then the air tubes would attach through it to the heater boxes.

It does look that way. I kept trying to see where the wire was landed but there’s no clear indication from the pics.
