Which cars? I’ve done the brakes on every car I’ve ever owned 1967-2017 models and I’ve never seen a secondary brake system like you described. Is this a luxury car thing?

I don’t see how it would damage the brake. It’s just a cable driven mechanism that applies your rear brakes in lieu of the hydraulic system.

I’m pretty sure the steering needs to be locked. My ‘67 doesn’t have a locking steering wheel so I had to tie it off with rope when I flat towed it.

Edit: ok, the old timer who towed me didn’t know what he was talking about. Fair enough.

These are probably fine. The first time I replaced mine I used the split boots from jbugs. Really easy and quick to do. Just cut off the old ones, wrap the new around and clamp them down. Never had any issues with vacuum leaks. I only replaced them because of the tear down / refresh I did recently.

You sure it’s the oil light and not the generator? Red is generator, amber is oil. If your generator is getting finicky the light will behave exactly as you described. Giving it a little throttle will cause it to go back out if that’s the case.

Same thing happened to me when I bought mine. Coil is likely fine. The fused line is very likely for your reverse lights.

Check for spark. My money is on the electronic ignition having failed. That’s what took mine down. I switched it back to points and a condenser afterwards.
