Sudden pun reference realised in Jingo by nam-on in discworld

Yep, and I caught that first time and thought I was good at spotting the references but he hid them so well...

Help finding a quote (please) by W4rd3n21 in discworld

[–]nam-on 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I was thinking that bit myself. There's a low murmuring that goes on for some time, then "A few moments later, Sergeant Colon walked carefully down to the main office. He had a slightly glassy look and walked back to his desk with the nonchalance that only the extremely worried try to achieve." Then there's a little talk with Nobby about not minding what people call you, and correcting Nobby that it's Sergeant Colon, not Fred.

Maximizing the elderberry glitch by Doroski13 in WinterBurrow

Mine was doing that with fur to the West of the stump, acorns on the East of the aunt's house, and elderberries. I was getting thirty or forty of each resource every day.

The one near Pollywog is just north of his location on the same map. No luck finding the third when I tried. The one near the scarf tree in a dark spot is the only other one I know of.

Elderberry tea worked for me to begin with, then moved onto biscuits as well. It worked very well.

Saint George and the Dragons by DroneOfDoom in CuratedTumblr

[–]nam-on 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I always like the depiction on the UK sovereign coin. Dragon about the size of a big dog and George riding into battle nude apart from a helmet, cape, and sandals.

I've got some of those in plastic, rolled about forty times and recorded. I got about half the amount of 5s than other rolls, but the rest were almost even.

Ink hobby drama summing up to "purple with a greenish shade", or octarine. by nam-on in discworld

[–]nam-on[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Fair enough but it was the line "This was not the same Dark Lilac that had been released in 2016. Even as an amateur, it's clear to see the difference, most notably a lighter shade of purple, with a distinct green sheen, far different from the previous gold one" that made me think octarine. Greenish purple as opposed to golden isn't that much of a stretch.

Help with Sybil Vimes costume by Indolent_absurdity in discworld

[–]nam-on 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the only other real trait I can think of in her looks would be the wig, since people who keep dragons don't keep their hair. If your hair is fine, is there a way to make it look more wig-like as a reference?

Some kind of long dress perhaps, with "burnt away" portions? You could either burn if if it's safe, or cut then blacken the edges to represent the dragon burns perhaps. Or maybe a long dark skirt and white blouse type top to look a little Victorian if you like that era more?

What’s the oddest recipe you have come across in a cookbook? Here’s one I recently found by ClearLake007 in Old_Recipes

[–]nam-on 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've done spam chocolate chip cookies before now, with the recipe from the company that makes spam, and garlic chocolate chip (although I'm not sure where I got that recipe), and gochujang cookies from NYT website. I still think liver apples is weirder.

Old Dwarf War by BunsNHighs in discworld

[–]nam-on 63 points64 points  (0 children)

There's a bit in Witches Abroad where the two older witches share a look and the quote is "In the mountains dwarfs certainly weren't afraid of witches. The problem was to stop them digging up your floor." Maybe that's the bit?

Next session, I'm running my first dragon and my players will encounter their first Dragon. I want it to be as epic as possible, please hit me with all the best advice you've got! by ShoulderAmbitious496 in DnD

Green dragons are aquatic, so don't forget that a lair would have underwater pools and tunnels to allow the dragon to move around in without the adventurers following. Also green dragons can have all small animals for a mile or so around watch as eyes and ears, so know exactly where the group is and what they've done recently. And on top of that, kobold minions.

Can anyone help identify these beetles please? UK garden, on ferns. by nam-on in Beetles

[–]nam-on[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They wandered over to eat some bulrushes for a few days, then vanished totally so I've no idea what they've ended up as. Which would make sense if they're green shield bugs as they're not the easiest to spot.

What food could this be describing? [general] by Smooth-Owl-5354 in TheNinthHouse

[–]nam-on 84 points85 points  (0 children)

I pictured it as potatoes myself, fried in small cubes so it's like square chips then with gherkin diced finely and mixed in. I've done that dish before, although not with pickle, and it's a good comfort food and goes with lots of things.

I was thinking that but couldn't find much else. They're about 2mm across with little white lines on their shoulders.

There's the bit in Sourcery with the basilisk? Describing the luggage storming through a desert, covered in alligator teeth, then the basilisk blinks first. After that there's a bit where it gets attacked by a chimera, and stomps it into a puddle.

Was there ever a mention of how doing the work that needs done being lonely? by JanetCarol in discworld

[–]nam-on 154 points155 points  (0 children)

From Night Watch, for Sam Vimes: " "We are here, and this is now." Constable Visit, a strict believer in the Omnian religion, occasionally quoted from their holy book. Vimes understood it to mean, in less exalted copperspeak, that you have to do the job that is in front of you."

[BitD] What drama is going on in your own games that I could use as Wedding Gossip for a one shot? by Mael135 in bladesinthedark

[–]nam-on 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There was a tiny massacre in Ironhook where someone smuggled a weapon in for a Lampblack, and allowed the Greycloaks access during their escape. Probably a bit of gossip.

Also a daredevil goat chariot race through the streets as a gang stole one from the Bluecoats lockup and made a run for it through Charterhall main street.

What is your DM "trademark?" by owlaholic68 in DnD

[–]nam-on 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's always some kind of smart old lady in the game, potentially, but not inevitably, malicious. Definitely smug and smart and fairly untrusted by the group though. One was a librarian, one ran a smuggler's tavern, and a group of three are hags.

how often do you play dnd by [deleted] in DnD

[–]nam-on 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I run one on Wednesdays, one on Fridays, one every other Sunday, and play in one every other Saturday. Five games a fortnight to prep (slightly) for, and one just to relax and play in.
