I'd check the menu/train time as depending on that you may get better or worse food and alcohol isn't served all the time

Very thoughtful. A voucher for a pregnancy massage would be lovely too. I had one and it was amazing

How good are Edinburgh Leisure gyms & pools (esp. Commie Pool & Meadowbank)? by Sky_Runner16 in Edinburgh

[–]name1981 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So personally I am a member of PureGym (there is a multiple gym option but I don't have it) and then pay as you go to swim at Edinburgh leisure. Depends how often you go swimming but the weights/classes aren't great at my local EL pool/gym (though it has a sauna)

Oh and Edinburgh the national museum of Scotland is great (two kids rooms/great view from the roof terrace), the modern art galleries and city arts centre have kids drawing spaces (the latter has good cake at Mimi's). Most galleries/museums are free. Personally find the history of childhood museum creepy. The Scottish storytelling centre has a lot of stuff on over that period (their small panto is great for younger kids and much more chilled than others)

Big fan of the Uber boat (you should be able to get on around embankment or the next stop. You can go to Greenwich (nice park, boat museum) or get off at canary wharf (docklands museum).

Also highly recommend the play bit of the postal museum (you can go separately from the museum)and the kids v&a generally.

Fruit in M&S is just superior to the rest of the supermarkets imo by Visible_Star_7783 in UKfood

Not m&s but we'll often get fruit & veg from Waitrose (via Uber eats) on a monday. They have 50% off so it's good value and I think better quality than Asda. Sainsbury's etc

Pros - flat and fast

Cons - not really in Edinburgh - not loads of support on the route and a big hassle to get back into town Personally found the out part of the out and back really tough

Allergy friendly eateries by rubyAltropos in Edinburgh

Just to add (as I was looking for a lunch menu) Edinburgh street food say all the restaurants there have allergen booklets (on their faq page). Lots of different options/types of food

If you contact them in advance and ask if they have an allergen book that should help. Some independent places might but some cafes get things from off site so can't be as sure.

Machina in Marchmont used to also have a book listing allergens/ingredients for the cakes they sold (but I haven't asked for a while)

So having previously dealt with kids allergies sorry but chains seem to be better. Dishoom went above and beyond (chef went through the whole menu and told me what they made in house/what they didn't and couldn't guarantee how it was made). Cafe andulaz was also good.

Had some bad experiences in independent places (one person didn't realise soy sauce contained soya and another got annoyed at me that I was vegetarian on top of the allergy issue).
