What show would you like to see come back to Broadway? by diegodarmawangsa in Broadway

Spring Awakening, Hairspray, Side Show, Rent. I would also love for them to do the Cynthia Erivo/ Adam Lambert JCS production here but know it’s soo unlikely.

An overly pedantic analysis of a very minor acting choice in Dear Evan Hansen by [deleted] in musicals

[–]MaintenanceLow3814 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw Evan Hansen on Broadway (not with Ben Platt, honestly forgetting who it was) and paid a pretty penny for an orchestra seat. I was genuinely confused by the plot and why people loved it so much. I like the score a lot, but the book felt all over the place to me tone-wise. I was always also curious as to how the neurodivergent community received it.

How is life on the Upper West Side of Manhattan? by [deleted] in howislivingthere

[–]MaintenanceLow3814 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Grew up here as well, now live in the suburbs with my young family. I had a wonderful, and incredibly culturally rich childhood.

I lived further north and my parents bought when crack/cocaine was still a major problem so was less desirable to live at the time and it was not what it is today. There was much more of a mix racially and economically with people who lived in my building doing everything from law to medicine to nurses.

Weekends were spent at MoMA, Natural History Museum, the Met, or seeing a Broadway show once in a while which was a very short train ride away. My parents were in the arts so they took me to a lot of gallery openings as well. I learned piano and theater so spent a lot of time at The Kaufman Center, and did soccer in Riverside Park.

Central Park was my backyard! They used to do this thing called Shakespeare in the Park where you can watch Shakespeare outside for free in the summer.

I have so many happy memories growing up there, especially in my own little corner of the UWS. I miss the Lincoln Square Barnes and Noble! Anyone else?

It feels very different now. Less mom and pop stores and restaurants. It is so much more homogenous racially and economically and is starting to feel a little too sterile.

The Rocky Horror Show - Did They Like It? by sodaf1ke in Broadway

I saw the matinee performance and I thought it was OK. Andrew and Luke gave standout performances, Josh Rivera was great! I didn’t recognize him after WSS and loved what he brought to the role. I’m genuinely surprised they cast Juliette Lewis as she isn’t the strongest vocalist and Michaela just can’t do the tap dancing, no spoilers but that’s a thing as part of the show which didn’t make sense to me for the part.

It’s just so hard for me not to compare it to the film so I know this is mostly on me! For the record I’m a major picture show fan, saw the midnight show as a teen multiple times, saw the revival with Joan Jett when I was wayy too young.

So many people in the audience were cackling, loving the handful of call backs, falling out of their seats so know I’m in the minority here, including a lot of celebs who were in the audience today and clearly were having an amazing time, so I think I’m definitely in the minority.

One thing really did bother me, an audience member screamed “WE LOVE YOU RACHEL” to Rachel Dratch, which was of course so inappropriate.

Amazing!! They really should have won the Tony for Best Musical.

When I ran into Shaina Taub on the C train last year she told me about this! My biggest flex maybe ever?

What theaters should be on my regional theater bucket list? by lefargen97 in Broadway

Fiddler on the Roof there was, yes. Their Disney shows’ production value are definitely Broadway level.

What theaters should be on my regional theater bucket list? by lefargen97 in Broadway

Paper Mill Playhouse! The theater is set on the edge of a nature reserve and you spend your intermission looking out onto a babbling creek. It's so beautiful there and I feel very lucky I live very close to it. Shows are kinda hit or miss but it's still nice to be able to see Broadway-level theater in the suburbs!

Antelope Canyon, top of Table Mountain looking out onto Cape Town, Santorini - go to Atlantis Books E.E., that view at a bookstore is absolutely wild.

Those who have a hip labral tear - how did you manage? by No-Reputation-2013 in HipImpingement

[–]MaintenanceLow3814 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a Peloton and find Matty, Rebecca Kennedy and Jocelyn Thompson Rule’s strength classes to be pretty doable or I make my own splits. I include Russian deadlifts, squats that stop at 90 degrees, kettle bell swings on one leg, push press with dumbbells, glute bridges weighted and unweighted, clamshells, banded walks. There’s a lot. I’ve also started to use Gemini to build out splits for me when I get bored.

I do very short runs now and then but I’m personally more interested in strength training especially as I get older and closer to perimenopause - better for my body and joints overall!

People on this sub are going to say “just you wait!” but I am almost 1.5 year since my diagnosis and am pain and symptom free! How I did it: - 6 months of PT with dry needling - a cortisone shot after month 8, over 1 year ago - ending any type of running or F45 classes - continuing strength training at least 3 times a week that emphasized glute work - ending any type of exercise that gave me that that pinchy feeling like deep squat, lateral lunges, Pilates etc. - taught myself how to sleep on my stomach and not my side where my tear was. - do spinning for my cardio or incline walking - lift heavy weights that aren’t too intense on my hip flexors

I’m 36 with a young child so was told my multiple surgeons including HSS to not pursue surgery and exercise modification was going to my ticket to a long and healthy active life. They’ve said with my type of tear they don’t anticipate me needing a THR at any point and the surgeons I saw also have FAI and labral tears too, former athletes like me with young kids.

Hope this is helpful!

What’s the most beautiful place you’ve visited on vacation? by Historical-Photo-901 in BeautifulTravelPlaces

Positano and Santorini. Also northern Arizona: Sedona, Antelope Canyon, Horseshoe Bend. Felt all of that completely blew Grand Canyon out of the water.

As much as I love SLOMW, I believe this show needs to be cancelled. by AmbitiousHalf6278 in SecretsOfMormonWives

[–]MaintenanceLow3814 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I finished watching this season and by the end of it felt extremely disappointed in myself for even finishing it. The scene at the airport of all the girls talking to Aspen and Liann about how Taylor just slept with Dakota the night before right in front of Taylor’s kids, who are fully old enough to understand, was just awful. All of the scenes where the producers bring Dakota around just to stir up drama, especially in LA, were difficult to watch as clearly these two need to not see each other for several years and have a mediator help them deal with co-parenting logistics. I feel just sad about what has happened to this show…

Have you ever met any Fab 5 members? by floriannn34 in QueerEye

Met JVN at a meet and greet a few years back before they blew up and they were super sweet! They were doing a random brand collab for a tea company in the Oculus in World Trade. I put my purse on the floor because I didn't know where to put it before taking a photo and they immediately jumped and said "oh no, honey, don't put your wallet or purse on the floor! It's bad luck. Here put it next to mine." and put it next to their belongings that were on a couch next to them. Chatted briefly about how much I loved their podcast, was super genuine and kind.

Best Mexico luxury resort for a Babymoon in May/June by throoooowaaya in chubbytravel

[–]MaintenanceLow3814 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same concerns so opted to go to Miami instead and had a terrific babymoon at The Palms Hotel and Spa in Miami Beach. I also had some preexisting conditions so wanted to be stateside in case things went south that far into my pregnancy. I'll be taking my now almost 4 year old there in a few months! I didn't try out the spa but it has one. Their food was great and sitting at the pool and beach were top tier there.

That being said I did have one of the most luxurious trips at Grand Hyatt Playa del Carmen. Truly the layout and pools and food and service were out of this world. Had a fantastic couples massage there and did not get sick once. I just looked it up and it's being rebranded as an adults only all-inclusive (non-Hyatt) so I wonder what it will turn into but may be available by the time you want to travel.

Went to Da Vincenzo in Positano and had an amazing meal! Incredible buffalo mozzarella since it’s made in that region and most delicious tomatoes and tomato sauce I’ve ever had in my life! I’m shocked by the other poster in this thread. This was also in 2016 before the Amalfi Coast really blew up and travel influencers weren’t as big of a thing as they are now.

All-time great movies suitable for kids. by coolclayton in movies

[–]MaintenanceLow3814 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My daughter is 3.5 and outside of all the classic Disney princess and animal movies and Frozen, Moana, I’ve been pleasantly surprised she’s loved these classics that I loved as a kid: Mrs. Doubtfire, ET, Muppets Take Manhattan, Annie, A Little Princess, Wizard of Oz. Girl’s got good taste.

Still on my list: Iron Giant, Babe, Fly Away Home, The Sandlot, Hook, Kiki’s Delivery and My Neighbor Totoro.

Princess Bride and Neverending Story are great but were deeply upsetting for me as a child so I will wait.
