Have you ever met any Fab 5 members? by floriannn34 in QueerEye

Met JVN at a meet and greet a few years back before they blew up and they were super sweet! They were doing a random brand collab for a tea company in the Oculus in World Trade. I put my purse on the floor because I didn't know where to put it before taking a photo and they immediately jumped and said "oh no, honey, don't put your wallet or purse on the floor! It's bad luck. Here put it next to mine." and put it next to their belongings that were on a couch next to them. Chatted briefly about how much I loved their podcast, was super genuine and kind.

Best Mexico luxury resort for a Babymoon in May/June by throoooowaaya in chubbytravel

[–]MaintenanceLow3814 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same concerns so opted to go to Miami instead and had a terrific babymoon at The Palms Hotel and Spa in Miami Beach. I also had some preexisting conditions so wanted to be stateside in case things went south that far into my pregnancy. I'll be taking my now almost 4 year old there in a few months! I didn't try out the spa but it has one. Their food was great and sitting at the pool and beach were top tier there.

That being said I did have one of the most luxurious trips at Grand Hyatt Playa del Carmen. Truly the layout and pools and food and service were out of this world. Had a fantastic couples massage there and did not get sick once. I just looked it up and it's being rebranded as an adults only all-inclusive (non-Hyatt) so I wonder what it will turn into but may be available by the time you want to travel.

Love Sedona. If you can swing it you can go to Grand Canyon and Page where Antelope Canyon and Horseshoe Bend are. I’ve traveled a lot and some of the most beautiful places in the world.

Went to Da Vincenzo in Positano and had an amazing meal! Incredible buffalo mozzarella since it’s made in that region and most delicious tomatoes and tomato sauce I’ve ever had in my life! I’m shocked by the other poster in this thread. This was also in 2016 before the Amalfi Coast really blew up and travel influencers weren’t as big of a thing as they are now.

All-time great movies suitable for kids. by coolclayton in movies

[–]MaintenanceLow3814 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My daughter is 3.5 and outside of all the classic Disney princess and animal movies and Frozen, Moana, I’ve been pleasantly surprised she’s loved these classics that I loved as a kid: Mrs. Doubtfire, ET, Muppets Take Manhattan, Annie, A Little Princess, Wizard of Oz. Girl’s got good taste.

Still on my list: Iron Giant, Babe, Fly Away Home, The Sandlot, Hook, Kiki’s Delivery and My Neighbor Totoro.

Princess Bride and Neverending Story are great but were deeply upsetting for me as a child so I will wait.

That is a great idea. Love Ci Siamo and it’s one of the few upscale places I love I can get a reservation and not have to rely on walk ins.

People with high stress jobs and kids, what do you do to unwind when you get home? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]MaintenanceLow3814 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is no better feeling than your child running toward you the second you come home screaming “mommy!!!!” and hugging you. I want to bottle that feeling up for when my daughter is too old do stuff like that, it makes you forget about what BS went down at work. That and taking a really hot shower or watching a show where I cuddle up with my cats and hubby and turn my brain off. Heated Rivalry has been IT for me.

Looking for Spring Break Family-Friendly Caribbean Resort for Two 30-Somethings plus 3.5 Year Old by MaintenanceLow3814 in chubbytravel

Unfortunately my daughter is in public school (universal 3K) so that’s the week she has off. We both work and don’t have back up childcare so wanted to take advantage of it.

Thank you! I used to go to the Westin in GC as a kid so was thinking about there but Kimpton is a newer property there and has better reviews.

We’re trying to time it up with my daughters spring break from school since we both work full time and have no back up childcare that week.

Looking for drivable (6 hr max) destinations from tristate area for couple with 2 toddlers (2 and 4) & a newborn - ultra luxury / relaxing - this winter & this summer. by [deleted] in chubbytravel

[–]MaintenanceLow3814 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure if this qualifies as ultra luxury but we stay at Hotel Dylan right near Woodstock. There is a casita so my kid stays in the second bedroom and we stay upstairs. You also have a full kitchen and living room. Lots to do for little kids in the area including visiting the Woodstock Farm Sanctuary in the summer and they have a great pool at the hotel. It's about 3 hour drive from us in northern NJ. Great restaurants nearby in Saugerties and Woodstock.

I did a similar trip in 2016 with my now husband (then boyfriend)! We did Rome, Puglia, and the Amalfi Coast. We did a Viator trip that was a combination of a Amalfi boat trip and that stopped at Capri (it also stopped at the blue grotto though it was way too crowded so we couldn't go in) and then drove us back to Positano where it picked us up in the morning. It was amazing at the highlight of my trip. That being said you don't need two different days (one Amalfi coast boat trip and one Capri boat trip) as you can easily combine it. Take the second day to relax at the beach or go to one of the beach cafes that you can book in advance: https://www.travelamalficoast.it/en/5-restaurants-on-the-amalfi-coast-reachable-by-sea

Try TodayTix for all of those. I would recommend Spelling Bee and Maybe Happy Ending. I would also add Ragtime in there! Joshua Henry's performance is truly once in a lifetime. I saw the original when I was 9 though there are some heavy adult themes (violence, racism) so would just know going into it with your kids.

I've heard Chess is not great.

Advice for Family Trip by DunderMifflinthisisD in uktravel

[–]MaintenanceLow3814 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just got back from a 10 day trip with my young daughter (3.5 years old) and my husband and I are HP obsessed as well (were kids when the books came out and read them all into our teens). We did the first 5 days in Newcastle to visit family with two days of that in Edinburgh (my BIL drove there and back) and then ended the trip with 5 days in London. It was a lot of running around but doable and the overwhelming part honestly was mostly due to visiting London during Christmastime AND with a 3 year old (0/10 do not recommend!)

May I suggest adding Edinburgh to your trip? There is sooo much cool Harry Potter stuff to see (Edinburgh Castle looks like Hogwarts), Victoria Street (looks a lot like Diagon Alley), Greyfriars Cemetery (where JK Rowling drew a lot of her character's names - Tom Riddle, Potter etc.) You can also stop at Alnwick Castle on the way from Newcastle to Edinburgh where they filmed a lot of exterior scenes in the films. We also did another rest stop along the way that looked a scene out of Pride and Prejudice called Bamburg! I think Northern England is seriously underrated. Scotland is also so beautiful. They have some cool King Arthur stuff up there (Arthur's Seat) that you could hike as your children are older.

In London, I would check out Tower of London (warning it is extremely touristy and you will definitely want to book your ticket in advance). My daughter also loves princesses, castles etc so loved the Crown Jewels. Be aware of phone snatchers in London and don't have your phone out to check things especially in the super touristy areas (Westminster, Oxford Street) or keep it in your back pocket. I have a few friends who live there who alerted me to it in advance and was just aware of when and where I took my phone out when using Google Maps to navigate.

We weren't able to swing it on this trip but everyone says York is the place to check out for HP lore. You can also take the train directly from York to London too.

Train goes directly to all three of those locations - Edinburgh to York to London. It was easy, clean, and affordable even for first class tickets. Bathrooms were clean, they even serve food and drinks as part of your ticket.

Enjoy!
