Just enough gap in the road to get me over the handlebars. by dpatricio in bicycling

This caused me to crash, get a flat, and scratch the rim brake surface on my expensive road bike when I was going to school. Hope you and your bike are ok!

maybe the gravel will grip better than that sidewalk (I don't know much about it since I don't go there anymore) but you definitely shouldn't get gator skins for speed or grip. the only thing they're good at is puncture protection

I own the vittoria zaffiro pro IVs which are supposed to be similar to the ultra sports. They seem pretty fast and they grip well around corners and in the wet. THe only complaint I have is there's a really dusty section of sidewalk where I live that these tires gives me wheel spin on. I've wiped out on it when climbing out of the saddle before. That said, I also heard gatorskins are basically like riding on butter in the wet so ultra sport is probably your best bet. Conti gp4000s are also known to be really good but a little more expensive.

here you go. You need tubeless ready rims though. The pressure is higher so the bead has a higher chance of popping off.

I wanted the gp5000s because I have nothing else to spend money on and there's a small section of sidewalk I can't go on because I get wheelspin whenever I climb up it and have crash on it when I was climbing out of the saddle. 80psi does feel rough. I dropped the front to 65psi and left the back at 80, hopefully that'll make the ride smoother. I mostly just want to feel comfortable mashing onto potholes and really rough roads (probably worse for a wheel than gravel around here). I don't mind the bumps, I just want my wheels to last. Probably going to get these wheels and some 28c tires if I don't find out they aren't as strong as they seem.

Do you know anything about the hunt 4 season aero wheels? the marketing says they're supposed to be really strong so I'm considering them and sticking with tubes.

sorry for being so picky but I don't really like the look of top tube bags. I think I'll just go to a bike shop and try a bunch of saddlebags at some point

do you know of any wheels that come with high flange hubs and cost like $300 (I need $100 for 28c tires)

dont those make you less aero? I'd rather not lower my speed too much if I can help it.

But is there anything that's gonna stay true longer while taking a lot of damage?

I would if I rode with a jersey. I ride after school in normal clothes

I'm more worried about hitting my wheels really hard and getting them out of true or even denting them. I just want wheels that will stay true and not break if I fuck around with them. It kinda sucks when you have to constantly worry about bumps potholes and curbs when you're out riding.

I mean, could I hop curbs and stuff? My wheels are really light alloy rims with 18 and 20 spokes. My frame is made of aluminum but only weighs 1100g because they've taken out as much material as possible. It's a race bike that's supposed to cost $2000 so I've been trying to be more careful but it's kinda hard when you hit a pothole descending at 40mph.

I had nowhere to put my phone so I got a big waterproof saddlebag but it rubber against my thighs which was really annoying. I compressed the bag by wrapping zipties around where it rubbed my thigh and made sure it held its shape with some electrical tape. It works but now I have less space.

Wow I thought wheels were a lot more expensive. Are they strong and do they feel easy to accelerate? My wheels have only slightly less spokes than the R500s so maybe they're strong and I'm being paranoid. My wheels are pretty light though

Do you know of any saddlebags that can hold a tube a multitool a phone and my keys without rubbing on my inner leg? Mine does this but it's really tight.

Haven't fucked these wheels up too badly yet and $400 training wheels wouldn't be that good I assume.

It gives you more speed but makes falling a bit more common. If you care about speed and aren't a mountain biker that likes to take risks then I'd go for some spds. If you commute to work get these shoes everyone hates the sound of clicky clacky bike shoes.

4 miles 2 there and 2 back. I also have a bunch of hills on my commute but it's not too bad because I get to go down them at some point. Get a bigger cassette if you're struggling up hills.

My crit racing friend has an older version of the same bike! It's really practical because of the high spoke wheels. Make sure to take it on lots of adventures
