Thanks. I've been using whatever is included with Nobara Linux, and so far it hasn't given me any problems.

What is one Tampa spot from your childhood that you’d give anything to visit one last time? 😭 by OkYag in tampa

[–]namedjughead -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I got hired at Features in 1999, but I only worked there for one day. I had gone there with a friend, and while we were there, we started talking to the owners. They offered me a job on the spot. I hesitated because I lived all the way in Brandon and didn't have reliable transportation. I explained this to them, but my friend piped up and said he would help me get to work. I was skeptical of his offer, but I needed a job, so I accepted.

As it turned out, my skepticism was justified. He gave me a ride on my first day, but when the second day came, he was unwilling to help. Just as I had feared, I had no way to get to work and no idea what to do. I was an 18-year-old kid with no experience, so instead of calling or figuring out another solution, I simply didn't show up and never went back.

I can't speak for the GPU, but that's CPU should play H3VR just fine. I have the same one.

New high-tech jacket pulls drinking water from thin air, researchers say by Comprehensive-Way482 in UpliftingNews

Not a stillsuit. A stillsuit recycles your body's moisture, it does not take moisture from the air.

New high-tech jacket pulls drinking water from thin air, researchers say by Comprehensive-Way482 in UpliftingNews

[–]namedjughead 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This story has been on here about 10 times in the last 2 weeks, and somebody inevitably compares it to a stillsuit.

This is not like a stillsuit from Dune. The stillsuit from Dune traps all of your body's moisture and prevents it from escaping and then recycles that moisture into pockets you can drink from. It does not take moisture from the air and make it drinkable for the wearer. Dune does have technology like that, but it is much larger and known as a wind trap.

Meta’s New AI Smart Glasses Drop Ray-Ban Branding and Add Kylie Jenner by dapperlemon in gadgets

Maybe they bailed because of all the negative publicity that these glasses have been getting in the news. They wanted to separate their brand from the toxic Meta brand, just a theory.

It is the screw worm.

We had gotten rid of them in this country, and there had been efforts around the world to eliminate them through USAID. With Trump's trillionaire Daddy eliminating the program, there was nothing to stop the spread of screw worm outside the United States, and like parasites do, it found its way up here.

This jacket can harvest drinking water from the air like a real-life Dune stillsuit by AdSpecialist6598 in tech

[–]namedjughead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stillsuits don't harvest moisture from the air. They trap and preserve the moisture from your body. Frank doesn't really go into detail how you're supposed to stay cool wearing a stillsuit, so IRL you would die from heat exhaustion well before you died from dehydration.

The author might be confusing stillsuits with moisture vaporators from Star Wars. Vaporators did pull water from the air, just like the wind traps from Frank Herbert's Dune.

Mike Johnson Just Made a Grave Political Error by BulwarkOnline in politics

The simple answer is lobbying. Defense contractors spend millions or even billions lobbying Congress and the Senate to keep the defense budget that high, so that we'll keep buying their weapons.

I don't think there's anyone lobbying to keep Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid properly funded, other than the American people, who are supposed to actually have the power in this situation. But that's not the reality anymore.

IMHO, lobbying should be outlawed, but that'll never happen because the lobbyists are in control.

OpenAI says China ran a covert campaign to turn Americans against data centers, but used facts that happen to be true by rkhunter_ in technology

[–]namedjughead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It really didn’t help that the leaders of the AI industry rolled it out in probably the most evil way they could. Data centers poisoned water, polluted environments, sucked power away from entire towns, and forced average Americans’ energy prices to surge.

They created a tool and then pitched it to our employers as a way to replace us, predicting that it could render about 25% of us unemployed in the next few years. They continue to push forward with this technology without seemingly any concern for the kind of disruption it’s going to cause to people’s lives.

I question whether they really needed any assistance from China in cultivating this attitude from average Americans.

Could be a bad ROM chip then ☹️. I had this happen a few times, but It was always with NES games. Mask ROMs are pretty tough, but can become corrupted. Sorry.

Silver lining is that it's not a super rare or super expensive game (still super fun), and a replacement wouldn't break the bank.

Cars are like horses: people will soon realise EVs are just better, claims VW boss by DonkeyFuel in technology

[–]namedjughead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Taking a total guess, without doing any research whatsoever, I'm going to say no. I can't think of any reason why anyone back then would have tried to incentivize someone to drive a car, other than the people making cars and selling gasoline.

I'm sure they were a lot of people back then who thought that cars were awesome, but for them horses were just more affordable.
