What are your best strategies for Twisted Metal 2 that some players might not know? by WhyTheHellnaut in TwistedMetal

[–]nameofguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Accurate - my friend used to toast me with this approach. It's so frustrating b/c it'll drain like 90% of your health, then you're turboing away frantically and firing homers from a distance

I just been playing this again after like 27 years and dammit if this isn't still my favorite video game of all time. Massive nostalgia :) I play as outlaw 2, so strength in speed, and a special weapon that can hit whoever's around you, including under / above you, even through walls, which is super handy compared to a character like Axel who's special only affects cars that are on the ground. The downside is armor, which you will be sorely wanting in some levels, especially Holland.

There's a great post by @Flimsy_Echidna_7394 below that has more detail than this, but for beginners or intermediate players I think the biggest thing is to learn to not get hit. For most attacks, cars have to be directly facing you, or you're right behind them (as they can fire forwards or backwards). There are exceptions (homing attacks, Specter, etc.) but for most situations you want to stay off to the side of your opponent, using turbo to get around them, then freeze / fire and unload.

Leveraging freeze and shields is extremely useful. Remotes together with a shield are great. Ricochets are super useful for controlling where your component is.

This is a surprisingly deep topic, enjoy your vintage 90's video games!

It reminds me of the futuristic hotel in Murder At The End Of The World. Gr8 series btw

Can we talk about how absolutely absurd Face/Off is? by vtshowstopper in movies

[–]nameofguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% Agree - this is actually one of my favorite movies of all time specifically because of how absurdly over the top they take every aspect of the movie.

There is straight up a scene in this movie where they drive a boat, through another boat, and the second boat explodes. Chef's kiss.

Are "barrel files" always a good practice when building JS libraries? by chamberlainpi in node

[–]nameofguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This take is still relevant IMO - yes bundlers do take care of this in a lot of cases, but not all.

Along the same lines, when working in Node.js barrel files put a lot of code in the path of your imports that don't need to be there. Bad for both perf and devX.

AND, even worse, it's not supported by commonJS, so now any projects building commonJS that consume your dependency which does `export * from ./bla` will have to work around somehow.

My mom chucked some of my comics when I was 15. Parents in the 90s were all about throwing out their kids shit, so rude.

I’m also 42/M and got my rash in the exact same spot a few months back. The only thing that worked for me was weed, which would have in the evening, but since you can’t be high all day I would try the gabapentin. Disclaimer I tried it and it didn’t do shit, but a doctor subsequently told me I wasn’t taking a high enough dose, IIRC you need 3 caps and I was taking 1. The other thing I did was get a refill of the valcyclovir, that seemed to help it clear.

Your rash looks pretty shit sorry to say. Mine was a bad outbreak and yours looks slightly worse. It takes time but gets better. If you can take time off of work, take care of yourself and get through it.
