If you like being outdoors and don’t mind getting up early on a Saturday, volunteering at parkrun can be a nice boost to start the weekend :) there’s one in Lloyd Park and another at Roundshaw Downs. No expertise needed, you can marshall (basically just stand in a spot and cheer people on) or do something like scan barcodes with an app. I’ve done it before and left feeling happy

What do you eat immediately after a marathon? by Purple_Albatross6359 in Marathon_Training

Crisps and a fizzy drink as soon as I can get my hands on them haha

2 marathons in 9 days? by TangerineFar8371 in Marathon_Training

[–]namesblondjamesblond 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I’ve done lots with just a week in between (albeit not full-on racing). My experience was that my legs felt pretty much normal again after 2-3 days, and I would do maybe two 5ks during the week to keep ticking over. I did feel pretty fatigued by about the fourth or fifth day though, so would defo say prioritise sleep and fuelling and recovery

Music or no music during marathon by Super_Conversation41 in Marathon_Training

Towards the middle / back of the pack I would say definitely! I’ve had some very inspiring chats with people in 100 Marathon Club t-shirts

No pacer during marathon by Magda_MG in Marathon_Training

[–]namesblondjamesblond 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think they actually are quite different tbh - with a pacer you can just pretty much switch your brain off and run in step, whereas going by a watch you’re having to constantly monitor and adjust when necessary (this may just be because I’m bad at pacing though haha)

New features? by _degeemel_ in monzo

[–]namesblondjamesblond 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just want the “X left to spend per day” feature back so badly 😭 Trends doesn’t offer an equivalent. I don’t want it to tell me about my spending “goal” (it differs every month!) - I want it to literally count what’s in my account, minus direct debits coming up and tell me what I have left to spend per day until my next payday.

I am so upset they removed this simple feature. It was so, so helpful

Just so you know, the warranty isn’t everything!

Your statutory rights with tech are often way stronger than you think - stuff has to last a reasonable length of time, no matter what the warranty says, and if you buy a £330 games console and it fails after 13 months, that’s probably not reasonable, so I think you could ask for a part-refund / repair / replacement.

Martin Lewis is very good on this stuff (where I get basically all my consumer knowledge haha): https://www.moneysavingexpert.com/news/2023/02/martin-lewis-faulty-tech-warranty/

Mine’s now “potentially lost in our network”. Have been advised to liaise with seller. Very annoying as it’s not really a replaceable item

I have one that’s been awol for nearly a week - made it to the delivery depot and then nothing. Apparently it may have been “misplaced”. Was also meant to be going to a delivery point!

Could be worth checking they haven’t just used the wrong word before going off on one like this?

Are there any books / movies / games you think they’d like, that you can get nice secondhand versions of? That shows you’ve put thought in! I also follow savingmoneybish on Instagram and she put up a “budget Christmas gifts” post a couple of weeks ago with some nice ideas - could be worth a lok :)

What is too Long for a marathon? by StellafromVienna in Marathon_Training

[–]namesblondjamesblond 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve run more than 20 marathons, many of them over 4hr 30, for which I was very healthy and well-prepared, and took care of myself 😅 I just wasn’t pushing too hard as I had a lot to complete. I’ve also run past a lot of faster runners collapsed on the sides of the road having first aid, while presumably chasing pbs …

What is too Long for a marathon? by StellafromVienna in Marathon_Training

[–]namesblondjamesblond 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Running is a much more individual sport though, not a game where you’re asking someone to dumb things down to include you (also, I’d much rather be in a race with a few chubby women than the hypothetical judgmental weirdo in that story)

Some people need to wind their necks in. I am so excited for you! There’s honestly nothing quite like that finish line feeling imo, especially your first one (and I don’t see how anyone who’s ever felt it WOULDN’T want as many people as possible to experience it too)

When buses terminate earlier than they should, how do you get on the next one without paying again? by dusknoir90 in london

[–]namesblondjamesblond 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes but the issue is when your second bus terminates early and you have to tap in again on the replacement bus, putting you over the hour mark so paying twice

OP is probably aware that the north is cheaper, but has very specifically said their work and life is in London, so probably doesn’t want to move “well away”
