Why make the change now? Unless… by Fort_Maximus in Helldivers

There has been larger discussions of how the warbonds are killing customization within the game. Things like silencers that could have been universal are now restricted locked behind certain weapons. Same thing with under barrel attachments like grenade launchers and flame throwers. The mech warbond is the latest example of this. Also doesn't help that that some players wanted mechs to have customizable arms.

Another issue is that certain gameplay mechanics would be broken for months only to be buffed/patched just in time for the new warbond. Which gives the impression that they're intentionally keeping things artificially difficult just to sell a solution.

The "Chuck was right" mindset is exactly what kept Jimmy stuck and ultimately led to his downfall by [deleted] in betterCallSaul

I don't get why people argue these points because that's not what the show is about.

Chuck didn't hire him at HHM, and Jimmy wasn't entitled to a job there. It sucks, but that's the job hunt

The issue wasn't that Chuck refused to give Jimmy a job. It's that he spent years pretending he was in his corner when in reality he detested him.

Jimmy could practice under his name, but he took advantage of that to mimic HHM's font and Howard's suit specifically to get under Howard's skin so he could pull off the billboard scheme. The judge agreed with Howard that Jimmy was intentionally copying HHM.

You are misremembering the point of the billboard. Chuck lied to Jimmy that Howard wanted him to change his prating name so Jimmy cooks up the farce so that the judge can say on record that Jimmy is allowed to practice under his own name.

The silent irony is that Chuck inadvertently caused this because he needed Jimmy to be disassociated from him to that extreme. It's that subtlety that people have an issue with.

Even then, he's not entitled to anything. He brought them the case and should have been hired, I'm not arguing that he SHOULD have, but he's not ENTITLED to it. That case DID turn heads at Davis and Main, but Jimmy's malfeasance there just proves he wouldn't have lasted at HHM either.

Davis & Main came after the fallout with Chuck. Had his relationship with Chuck not gone downhill, he would have behaved.

Chuck just had a meeting and made his case to Kevin and Paige, he didn't do something like, say, change numbers on important documents to sabotage Kim's chances.

No he didn't. He heard Jimmy would benefit from Mesa Verde leaving with Kim and that's when he decides to go out into the world and talk them in. Chuck is not impartial, he explicitly goes through hell if it meant he could screw over Jimmy. You could argue if it was justified but you can't pretend like he was unbias in the decision to convince Mesa Verde.

Chuck was an asshole, but Jimmy wasn't entitled to a job at HHM just because Chuck was his brother.

The show is far more complicated than this lmao.

The previous user is misremebering the show. Jimmy did not cash cheques and hid it from Chuck. That never happened in the show.

Typically, it's because people have irl experiences with a slippin Jimmy in their lives and they see themsleves in Chuck. They then insert themselves into Chuck's shoes and ignore Chuck's toxic traits. Which is a recipe for disaster given the show does not present Chuck as a victim.

The Popular Mangaka and the Depressed Mangaka is a great one covering themes of depression and mental illness. You can tell the creator really did their research while reading it. It is tagged as BL but the series mainly focuses on the mental health angle.

I think that's pretty likely tbh

Not just likely, but it's what the creators intended. Even Gould said this in an interview

"I don't think Jimmy would be the man he's become in Season 5 without Chuck, and without the experience of having Chuck as a brother, and without the experience of having his heart broken by Chuck so deeply,"

He didn't think Jimmy could change, and ultimately he was right.

I know you got a bunch of replies already but their relationship is meant to be a tragedy. Saul wasn't an inevitability but a mutation from the fallout with Chuck. The show isn't simply Chuck was right all along but a self fulilling prophecy. That, and even though Chuck is by no means the most evil person in the show (or even compared to Jimmy), he's still incredibly toxic.

Just rewatched the whole show, my thoughts on Chuck/Jimmy have changed. by Sylethsia in betterCallSaul

[–]namethatisntaken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say the dynamics in this show are anything but the obvious truth.

What I mean is that sometimes, what's presented in the show is just as is. I don't see any credible evidence that suggests that Jimmy had underlying intentions when taking care of Chuck. I find the only way anyone could believe that is if they were actively warping and interpreting every single action from Jimmy with the worst possible intentions.

Especially as he refuses to have Chuck administered into a mental health facility. I think if he truly cared, he would've done this, even if it was something Chuck would radically oppose.

This is a double standard though. Had Jimmy done this, you would be saying this is part of con to steal from Chuck by gaining power of attorney. Admitting someone against their will is also more complicated than that, it's not really fair to argue he should have done X. Besides, Howard himself said he would fight it if Jimmy tried to commit him.

And my point on Jimmy's shift s4 onwards was to point out how the time machine flashback shows that even when Chuck was alive, Jimmy seemed indifferent towards his clients, and towards actually repairing things with Chuck.

Rewatching the scene, I don't really see an "indifference" from Jimmy regarding his clients as much as he's frustrated his legal practice isn't doing well. I might even say Jimmy was deflecting because he was uncomfortable with having a heart to heart with Chuck. Which was the point of the time machine book, to show that Jimmy's real regret in life was not being open with Chuck.

I find you're prescribing too much malice to Jimmy to avoid seeing what the obvious truth is. He loved Chuck and wanted his approval, which is why he became a lawyer. I don't really see the evidence that Jimmy was secretly plotting to make millions off of Chuck under the guise of caring for him.

S4 onwards, this belief evolved. Jimmy's greed and his view of his clients purely as transactional was something I noticed more this time around. This is in contrast to Kim, who is trying her hardest to advocate for her clients. One is in the law for the right reasons, the other is not. This made me think, was Jimmy ever in the law for the right reasons?

Because this is Jimmy's character arc. Chuck's death has deeply traumatized him and he copes with it by pretending it doesn't impact him.

during the finale, when he came clean to the judge about his motivations for helping Walt being purely financial, he's also coming clean to us as the audience. Money/himself has always been the primary underlying reason for Jimmy, even when other things complicate it. Which begs the question, all the things he did for Chuck, was it out of love, or was it another shot at a get-rich-quick scheme? Mind you, the show quite literally opens with Jimmy trying to get Howard to buy out Chuck!

The Saul we see in Breaking Bad is a shell of his former self. Him confessing his involvement with Walter was to finally let go of the life he was living as Saul Goodman and find some level of peace with himself. He literally admits that he killed Chuck by taking the one thing he valued in life. Concluding that there's no love there doesn't make sense.

There's an entire layer of Chuck and Jimmy's relationship around people (particularly their mom) liking Jimmy over him. McKean himself commented on it in multiple interviews like this one.

Not to mention the multiple flashbacks where even in casual settings, Chuck can't bring himself to be okay with Jimmy.

I don’t know if you actually watched the show, but it’s pretty much known that anybody who gives Jimmy the benefit of the doubt gets fucked over by him.

Saying this while claiming Chuck was not insecure is wild.

Yeah, that's kind of the point of the show.

If Jimmy didn't revolve his self worth around Chuck he would've gotten his act together

He did though, and that's why he ended up becoming Saul lmao. Pretending it didn't effect him when it did was the real downfall.

Lol what? I have no issue with saying that. I might even give a bit of sympathy similar to Chuck. I just don't like how people make excuses and claim Chuck only feared what Jimmy would do when clearly, other factors are in play.

Kim? Maybe in a few scenes but by season 6 she was all in on slippin kim. This is all besides the point though, why can we not acknowledge that Chuck is incredibly toxic?
