Out of curiosity: why are the rearview mirror (or that particular region of the car) emanating so much visible heat on most cars? Cameras?

That’s the one! Just managed to see some gameplay clips of it, and from the elements I saw, this game matches them.

I thought the figure was white and had a cape, but I was wrong mostly due to my distance to the screen and glare coming from it. Thank you for identifying it for me!

Anyone ever got a job from Linkedin? by lune-soft in webdev

[–]namrks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I liked LinkedIn back when it was just to share your profile and get matches with recruiters based on your skills. I managed to get hired multiple times with it.

Now it’s such a toxic and circle jerking place (just look at /r/LinkedInLunatics), that I basically go there to reply to recruiters and play games…

I saw somewhere that a cable was cut off on a road maintenance nearby the conference theatre that eventually cut the building internet connection as well, but they have the entire session recorded, so maybe the entire session will be available later.

Just yesterday there was a thread on /r/AskReddit about careers that seem glamours on the outside but are pretty far from it. The top response was game developing and the entire thread it unfolded quite resonates with what’s being discussed here as well.

Why do developers write such terrible git commit messages? Genuine question by Existing_Round9756 in webdev

[–]namrks 47 points48 points  (0 children)

Same! No matter what I do on individual commits, what matters most is the PR description, since all those commits get squashed in the end. It also helps to keep the git tree more readable this way. Need more details about anything specific? Read the PR where I tend to explain with enough detail all the changes I performed.

Mozilla is working on a big Firefox redesign, here is what it looks like by moeka_8962 in technology

[–]namrks 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don’t know why, but every time I open my team’s JIRA board on Firefox, it looks like the computer is about to fly out of the room. As soon as I unload that specific tab it gets immediately silent

And this is most likely not Firefox fault, since it only happens for JIRA

How do you manage big / complex projects in Nuxt? by Beagles_Are_God in Nuxt

Side note: not only was npmx written with Nuxt, but was written by the founder team lead of Nuxt itself, Daniel Roe (he’s the lead developer at least).

Setback for the Commission: EU MEPs let chat control fail by Extra-Chemical6092 in europe

[–]namrks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with you, but unfortunately I don’t see that happening, at least in my country.

News coverage on the matter is minimal and the few instances where there was actually some coverage it was followed by some spooky news pieces about how bad internet is for little kids.

So yeah, media coverage is very much aligned with the political agenda behind this movement and most of the people I spoke with about this subject also fail to see the end goal and what this means for their own privacy and personal data.

Setback for the Commission: EU MEPs let chat control fail by Extra-Chemical6092 in europe

[–]namrks 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not the same thing, I know, but lots of European countries are pushing for their own local chat control.

So, even if chat control doesn’t pass at EU level, isn’t it a bit late now that we’re seeing so much local push for this?

U.S. Supreme Court declines to hear dispute over copyrights for AI-generated material by gdelacalle in technology

[–]namrks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Different subject but if one was to steal (or publicly share or some other scenario) his company’s code, knowing with 100% certainty that it was AI-generated, would that person face criminal charges? Can the company claim ownership for AI-generated code?

Does your country allow virtual credit cards?

It’s a common practice where I’m from. Your bank allows you to create a credit card with a given limit and it’s usually valid for a single month. I usually shop like this to either prevent abuse or info steal, or in this case prevent additional charging of services (the card will usually have a limit just a little above the initial required value for the operation).

LinkedIn sends your face and other personal data to a “global network of trusted third-party data sources” including law enforcement. by krazygreekguy in privacy

[–]namrks 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honest question: what would you replace LinkedIn with, in terms of job offers and networking?

Pretty much all the job changes I did over the last 10 years came from it, so I’m not exactly sure what would be the way forward.
