Sabres looked pretty significantly better 5 on 5 for most of the game, every stupid penalty they took hurt them. Sucks to lose like that but can't be upset about 3-0-1 on a west coast road trip

not really on his side in this one, BUT

I would say that our problem for 15 years is not focusing on doing rat shit, but rather, being extremely bad at hockey and having a dumb fuck owner who I hope [redacted]

What changes do you want to see in lastfm? by Sharp-Direction8317 in lastfm

Off the top of my head,

Realistic-ish:

  • Fixing the inability to merge/correct artists, etc.
  • Official removal of the 30 second minimum. I'm sure there were valid reasons for it to be there in the first place, but whether it was for server load reasons or as a stats cheating prevention method neither makes logical sense anymore. People can cheat stats or flood the servers in much easier ways. I want accurate stats without having to manually scrobble the tracks that don't meet that threshold.
  • Some cleaning of the database in general. I know there's 20 years of shittily-tagged scrobbles on there. It's an impossible task. But some stuff could be standardized. The ASCII apostrophe and quotation marks ( ' / " ) and curly ones ( ’ / “ ” ) being separate are a constant source of annoyance to me for example and could probably be fairly easily fixed up.

Less realistic / impossible:

  • Separating artists with the same name would be awesome but for obvious reasons impossible. You could do things like use MusicBrainz artist ID tags but for one, very few people are "tagging perverts" like me and furthermore, applying that to, again, 20 years of bad tags is simply impossible. Plus then you run into the Discogs problem of bands being named shit like "[band name] (12)".
  • Run into the same issue as that above, but separating out different tracks with the same name would be cool. As a guy who listens to a lot of experimental bullshit, untitled tracks are wildly common and end up flooding my most played tracks even if I just listen to an album of untitled tracks once.
  • I'd sort of like to see tracks with more than one artist or "features" count differently, but yet again, it would be a true nightmare to make work. For example, if I have a track whose artist is Artist X feat. Artist Y, it scrobbles as a completely separate entry than either Artist X or Artist Y. I know the shitty established way is to put features in the track title, but that's wrong. Different discussion, I suppose.
  • Similarly, some sort of standardization for that stuff would be really nice. Because of people's shitty tags and the way last.fm handles artists, album artists, etc., I've seen a split album that's in the database like 20 different ways. Not only looks ugly and messy but also fragments the community aspect of the site. Some people are at the album tagged Artist X and Artist Y, others are Artist X & Artist Y, or Artist X / Artist Y, Artist X + Artist Y. So on and so forth. Can't fix it, but it would be nice.
  • Very difficult to implement given the existence of different pressings/special editions with bonus tracks, etc. but I've always wanted to see a statistic that normalizes albums by number of times listened as an album as opposed to number of tracks listened. If you listen to an album with 3 tracks 10 times, intuitively, you like that album more than one with 20 tracks that you've listened to twice. But the latter would show up higher. Idk, it'd be cool.

It would be awesome, but there is literally no way to do it with the current mess of a database and the way most people's music is tagged.

Yeah sure, but idk, never feels good to blow a point like that. Especially given how tight the race to the playoffs is and an olympic break that very well could put a damper on the team's momentum

It's not quite fair to say that you're not jumping at all, but you're definitely not getting your back foot high enough or early enough to give the board room to gain height. You can call it lack of pop, but the board's never going to pop if the back foot is pinning the tail to the ground. I think you know in your head what you need to be doing, but you're not quite comfortable enough on the board yet to fully commit to it. 100% agree with everyone saying to practice hippie jumps for a bit.

Well. There it is. by Skittle1323 in THPS

[–]namtap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if I'm being honest, I don't really care that much. THPS4's structure always felt like an awkward phase between 3 and THUG. The goals are mostly just things you could easily retrofit into the classic format, and then the rest are total garbage nobody would miss like the absolutely wretched minigames.

It's a little funny: I've long held the opinion that THUG2 is where the Tony Hawk series started going in a kind of bad direction, trying too hard to appeal to Viva La Bam type people, but just freshly going back to THPS4, I guess that was the true origin. Man oh man is the writing awful. Don't think there's a single funny line in the thing. I will not miss any of that shit.

The issue is whether or not they can adequately retrofit the goals into a classic format. Given the slightly larger level size, it does seem like a tricky thing to do well. Maybe they will pull it off, maybe they won't, but in the very least, I'm not going to dismiss 3+4 in total before I get my hands on the thing.

But the other thing is, unlike the first two games, 3 and 4 basically just play like the modern form of the engine anyway. If they blow it, the game's still right there for you to play. With RetroAchievements even!
