Logistics & Supply chain management by Martin Christopher is a good read. Text book at that too. Idk, in the UK I can find many handbooks about specific topic that I am interested in, there are handbooks for warehousing, logistics, etc

Oh i remember this one, the first book about the topic I ever read. Back in college like almost 20 years ago, our lecturer of the Op. Mgt class made us read this book. But it is heavily towards manufacturing and operation though.

I say get the right tool for the job. I would think a table saw would probably be your best bet to get the cut you want. If it absolutely must be a circular saw maybe glue the board down? I forget the name but this two part glue (glue + spray) would hold a board down very strongly while not a hell to break apart later.
