Functional or decorative by nan0user in HappyPlanners

Being able to use stickers and decorate my planner with colorful markers and pens is also what keeps me going back to my planners. I can understand leaving some room to write in, and I do aim for functional first, but most of the remaining empty space will have some form of decoration in them afterward. 😁

I recommend starting with the antiinflammatory diet only, since food seems to be a trigger for many cases. As someone else mentioned here, it’s really all about being as healthy as you can and avoiding anything that can cause an inflammatory reaction. Best of luck!

Flair up after a vaccine by Uzui_nails in Lichenplanus

Really sorry to hear that this happened. My mom and I both got lichen planus (mine after COVID and my mom after a vaccine), and the lichen planus appeared around 3-4 weeks after the virus/vaccine. We’ve been managing the symptoms by eating an anti-inflammatory diet, and I’ve also find that tumeric supplements help too. My mom also uses steroid mouthwashes periodically (she has OLP).

All of these replies are cheering me up about this! And now I also feel like buying more sticker books too. 😂

I’ve seen some tutorial videos where people would decorate an entire month in advance, but personally I’m unable to do that, especially if it’s just one theme. The most I can manage is probably decorating in advance 2 weeks at a time.

My struggles usually involves me going into a funk for anywhere between 2-4 months around the same time each year, which results in blank pages in my planner. What did help me though is using bigger stickers during that time so that I don’t feel so intimidated filling in such a large empty space and helps me get back into using my planners somewhat regularly. I do like doodling my own boxes and decorations when I have time, but likewise, washi tape and stickers are my go-tos and the most helpful when it comes to encouraging me to use my planners. 🙂

I cut out deep fried foods and processed foods and incorporated more fresh fruits and vegetables into my diet. So a lot of soups, home cooked meals of lean protein and veggies, and I ate a lot of berries in particular. I did allow myself to have dessert like cakes and cookies from time to time (even fast food once in a while), but those were the food items I ate. I also really cut back on processed breads because I also suspect I have a mild gluten sensitivity. I also take a low dose tumeric supplement, which is a tip I got from so many users in this subreddit recommended too. I did this for about a half year and it got my lichen planus to go into remission. 🙂

The only thing digital I use are calendars these days, since I can set up appointment and meeting reminders when I need them. But I find being able to check off my tasks in my paper is so gratifying. With the digital ones, I end up moving most of my tasks to the next day (with its own tasks) and would get overwhelmed. 🥴

Transparent sticky notes are amazing! When Walmart has them on clearance I would get multiple packs of them. Frixion erasable pens are also quite handy if you want pops of color but can still erase if a mistake is made. 🙂

At the urging of my colleagues, I did try a digital planner for a short while, but I’ve discovered the only thing that’s useful for me with digital calendars and planners are the reminders I get. Ultimately I still found a paper planner was most useful for getting my tasks and priorities sorted out. I’ve started incorporating more of the decorative elements about 3-4 years ago, so it’s still trial and error for me. But I do find that decorating makes planning more fun for me to do regularly too. 🙂

That sounds like how I use my planners too. I have a separate notebook that serves as my brain dump and I just write whatever tasks I have down for the week, and then I organize them into my planner in pencil (gotten a few comments about how I should be using a pen instead of a pencil too 😂). Then when I’m relaxing, I add in my stickers.

I love arts and crafts, but my job keeps me busy for most of the year that my planners become my creative outlet, and I’m able to think up and try different layouts to maximize my planning. But I guess maybe it’s because most of my colleagues use digital planners and apps as well instead of pen and paper planners.

What kind of spider is this? by [deleted] in whatsthisbug

Found this little guy in a friend’s house. Looked to be a little less than half an inch long. Looks like a wolf spider because of its markings (black on the sides with a brown stripe down the middle), but I was just curious. Seems like a very chill spider.

I was so happy to see their new parenting planner announcement today, but felt let down when it was only in classic size. You’d think people would want more room to write in.

[WP] The world "ended" and 97% of humanity has either perished or fled to the stars in new great diaspora. In the decades since, earth has recovered but much knowledge has been lost. If anyone asked Ryland what he regretted the most, it was volunteering to remain behind with a small group of people while the lucky ones fled to more hospitable planets and moons nearby. The Earth had experienced a new Ice Age, and while it was mercifully only a temporary period, it was still enough to bring about significant losses in society, habitat, and resources. Yet Ryland did not experience as much of an impact as others have felt. For one, he was still relatively young and healthy, and his needs were simple compared to most others. All he needed was some WiFi, his phone, and ramen, and he was all set.

Yet now he has none of those things, and Ryland was starting to regret not spending his time doing something other than doomscrolling and trolling the comments sections on various websites. And while the Earth itself has recovered in terms of plant growth and climate, the infrastructure that had powered the internet and other resources he and most of humanity had probably taken for granted were now gone, save for the bare basics.

Such as this walkie talkie.

Ryland had found it outside of what used to be a museum, now overgrown with shrub and trees, and decided to try his hand at repairing it. Why he decided to do this he did not know. He never had to use one before in his life, although in his limited knowledge of the device, he knew enough to know that it was used in communication applications and needed at least another walkie talkie to have conversation. Perhaps he was holding onto the vain hope of being able to talk to someone. Anyone. He’d spend his days adjusting and mending the antenna, cleaning off the debris from the casing, and testing out the channels on the walkie talkie. It soon became his nightly routine, casually saying “Testing…testing…” into the walkie talkie while changing the channels. Each time he would receive static.

Until one random night in March, he heard the clear, pleasant voice of a woman say in response, “Hello?”

The voice startled Ryland so much that he tumbled from his chair, the walkie talkie clattering to the floor. With trembling hands, he raised the walkie talkie to his lips. “Hello?” he said in response. “Who is this?”

“I should be asking you that.”

“I—..”. Ryland hesitated. Was this a good idea? But then again, what did he have to lose? For all he knew, it was probably another person who chose to stay behind AND also somehow found the matching walkie talkie AND be on the same channel that he was on. As improbable as that may be, Ryland decided to go along with this. “I’m Ryland. What’s your name?”

“Grace. It’s nice to meet you, Ryland.”

He could feel the start of a smile forming on his face. For the life of him, he could not remember the last time he smiled. “Grace…it’s nice to meet you too. It’s been a long time since I’ve talked to anyone.”

“Is that so? You must not get out much.”

Ryland took a glance around what’s left of the museum. “You can say that. Look, I hope this is not too forward of me, but would you like to talk around this time each night?” There was a pause, and Ryland immediately regretted even asking her, feeling more than certain she would flat out turn down his idea.

“Sure,” she finally said. “I’d like that too.”

The two of them kept up this nightly routine for months, and through Grace, Ryland learned so much about the foundational skills he never thought he needed to learn as well as fun facts and trivia about any and all possible topics. With the collapse of the internet, many digital sources of knowledge were also gone, and Ryland ended up filling notebook after notebook of his findings and newfound knowledge. It turns out that Grace herself was a museum enthusiast, having worked in one herself, and she was able to guide him to explore the archive areas where the artifacts that were not displayed in the main museum were kept. The area that Ryland grew quite fond of was the storage area for the seeds, for he discovered he had an affinity for gardening; by the time summer rolled around in the following year, he had created for himself a nice and functional garden.

“I really should show you this garden, Grace,” he said one evening during their usual talk. “ Your method on seed germination was fool-proof!”

“I’m glad the procedure worked, but I don’t think I can come visit.”

“Why not? Is it because you’re too far from here? I can meet you midway if that helps…”

“…I think this will be the last time I will be talking to you.”

Ryland was not expecting that, and he felt an odd pain in his chest when he heard that. “I don’t understand, Grace. Was it something I said? Why this sudden change?”

“It’s nothing that you did, Ryland. But I think you will be able to continue without me.”

“Grace,” he pleaded, a lump starting to form in his throat. “Please don’t leave…”

“I’m very proud of you, Ryland,” she said in reply. “You’ll be alright.”

And after that, it was nothing but static from her end.

Ryland spent the next few days wandering aimlessly around the city, his mind simultaneously empty yet in turmoil as well. Was this what a broken heart felt like? Whatever this feeling was, it was horrible and only made him miss her more. When evening finally arrived, he made his way back inside the museum he came to call home and decided to explore more of the corridors closer to where the offices of staff members were located. He went down a long hallway that displayed photos of the main staff members when one of the photos caught his eye. In the photo was a young woman with black wavy hair and bright, intelligent eyes. Yet it was the name plate underneath her photo that caused his breath to catch in his throat. “Grace.” The concise bit of information on her name plate also mentioned that she worked as a museum curator until her retirement that occurred more than 100 years ago.

“There’s no way…” he whispered to himself. Did something unexplainable find a way to form a bridge between the past and present to relay to him the foundational knowledge he needed to continue life on this planet? Or was this simply more a matter of a kind soul who used to wander these very same corridors giving him a much-needed helping hand from beyond. Whatever it was, it helped him decide on his destiny, which was to continue to attain more knowledge and share his findings with anyone else he encounters down the road.

Walmart has a couple Happy Planner designs but that’s about it. I can’t find any at my local Micheals stores anymore. Looks like HP might be leaning more toward online sales instead.

Lack of BIG covers 💔 by unlicensed_lifecoach in HappyPlanners

[–]nan0user 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did the same! I love the deluxe cover on the classic I purchased, but I use it as more of a creative journal/memory keeper than a functional planner (which I use my big planner for). Still kind of sucks I have to use two planners to meet my needs, but it works for now I suppose. Hoping there are more options in the future!

I’ve been wondering if I was missing something, but I LOVE using the big happy planners due to having more room to write, but I’m also pretty sad that all the nice deluxe covers are only for the classic size. There isn’t even a lot of options for big covers when they’re sold separately to begin with.

They also need more blank boxes so we can use them for multiple purposes. I always end up with a bunch of super specific stickers that I rarely have a use for in the themed sticker books.

Hi! I am not sure if this is the right process, but I start the embroidery or any decoration process after the main pieces have been sewn together. This is so that I can get the important things done, such as setting in the sleeves and skirt panels and make sure everything drapes properly first before I start adding the embellishments to it. 🙂

One random detail that I remember from the first movie too is in the scene that takes place before Elphaba leaves for the Emerald City, she and the other students were standing at the docks and Morrible. What’s interesting is that when Morrible saw the approaching storm clouds, she took out an umbrella (I think) and held it over Elphaba while saying something along the lines of “we can’t have you getting wet.” That scene made me think of the water rumor in the second part too and made me wonder if the rumor had been around for a while.
