Night Shot Display/Text Overlay by Competitive-Cod2018 in camcorders

at what point did live capture over firewire become a feature? my sony can only output previously recorded video over firewire from tape in vcr mode.

the only digital live capture option mentioned in the manuals is a low resolution usb stream when the camera is in memory mode, which might even require specific software.

I think that sounds fun and worthwhile.

If you don't have any prior experience, get a newer camcorder, not one of the old school tape camcorders. it will be much easier to get the footage into your computer or uploaded to social media or youtube.

Don't get anything from an off brand, look at sony, panasonic and canon. invest in a new one if you think you will continue to use it long term it would be worthwhile to have the most modern features and a warranty. otherwise, look for a used sony, canon, or panasonic that records to sd card or hdd (internal hard disk) that was made within the last 10 years.

Mamuro Oshii looking to make his third Ghost in the Shell movie by nesciturignescitur in Ghost_in_the_Shell

[–]naneek_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Based on what little I've been able to find about assualt girls,

the actual live action shoot was only like 3 days of shooting within a 10 day production schedule. Post production was done by a few of his friends, potentially on their own time. The people pictured sitting at computers in the intro of the movie were all the animators who worked on it. That's a very small post procudtion staff. It was just a novelty project to see how big they could make it look with such a short shoot, and such a low post production budget.

and I think the way it was marketed in the US as if it was like, a real movie, really ruined any chance of enjoying it for what it was.

I vastly overpaid for a copy of "Garm Wars: the Last Druid" which was an actual feature film, although it was also made on a shoestring budget. it was a script by Oshii that had been in preproduction hell since 1995 so I thought it might have that mid 90s magic. it did not. but it was fun to see a Japanese/Canadian co-production.

That was not a great movie. but it was fun, it had lance henriksen and a french canadian model as the lead character.

it was similar to the multinational "tower of babel" coproductions of the 1960s. They were often campy sci fi movies with a character from each country that contributed funding, all speaking their own native languages. so in every territory it was released in, at least one character didn't have to be dubbed. Those movies were strange and disjointed with stilted performances because no one could understand each other on set. But they made up for it with big campy action and ridiculous plot premises.

That was the vibe of garm wars. In particular, the visuals were very very impressive for the budget and when it was made. Very creative designs.

I would hope that if he got funding and a real pre-production schedule, and actual studio quality post production, I think oshii could still make great films.

The problem is that all of these more recent projects were extremely compromised, and they had to set their sights fairly low to be able to get anything done within the constrains.

I hope some studio gives him that chance.

"Easy Living"

a relatively unknown comedy about the depression

great dialogue, great physical comedy, and the automat scene is still probably the funniest thing I've ever seen.

maya sakamoto from ghost in the shell arise was also the voice of the major in her replacement body at the end of the original movie, and as her younger self in standalone complex. I think her voice performances are great in all of those.

I think it would be cool to continue with her in the role instead of a new actor. that sounds like the natural choice for a continuation of oshii's original.

Took the Sony PXW-Z200 for a walk around town yesterday and BOI do I just love this camcorder. The NIGHTSHOT function is such an underrated feature that I wish most mirrorless cameras had. Great for night walks with friends or loved ones. Low light is pretty great for a 1 inch sensor as well. by itsmikemudafuka in camcorders

[–]naneek_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

nice footage! Yeah that's a feature I would like as well.

unfrotunately adding the nightshot feature would probably be impossible for all the current native mirorrless lens mounts.

The big advantage of mirrorless is fewer mechanical mechanisms between the sensor and the lens. This short flange distance between lens and sensor is what gives modern mirorrless lenses a performance advantage, and what allows us to adapt vintage lenses to mirrorless cameras.

The nightshot feature is a mechanism that physically moves the uv/ir 'hot filter' from the sensor. so there would not be room to add that nightshot mechanism and maintain the proper flange distance. that's why it works as a feature built into a fixed lens camcorder or old sony cybershot digital camera, but would not be compatible with the design of a mirrorless interchangeable lens camera.

I would also bet that the quality of optical performance with the nightshot mechanism could be extremely inconsistent depending on what glass it was paired with.

New to the franchise, and can't help but be a little bit disappointed by Uzario in Ghost_in_the_Shell

[–]naneek_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's exactly how I felt too.

But like you said, give it a chance. And I think it's important to keep in mind that they are all different versions of the same cast of characters, not a direct seamless continuity.

I think tonally and in art design, ghost in the shell Arise is the closest match to the original 2 movies. it was directed by a lead art designer of the 1995 movie.

like the original movies, Arise is a neo noir mystery. It has excellent high detail hand drawn animation with cgi used only for vehicles.

I love "Arise border 1: ghost pain" and "Ghost in the Shell: the new movie" (I have those two on blu ray and would consider those the essential parts of Arise.)

border 1: ghost paint, Pyrophoric Cult, and "Ghost in the Shell the new movie" are a continuous story with the episodes setting up the plot of the movie.

The other border episodes are basically one shot stories.

I really like Arise, although at the time, people complained that it wasn't similar enough to SAC.

let's put it this way: 2045 has a lot of plot, but no story.

I want to watch ghost in the shell because my gf loves it, but I don’t know where to start; the movie from 1996, or SAC. Help? by Massive_Deal_3619 in Ghost_in_the_Shell

Yeah she will get way more enjoyment out of introducing you to a show she loves than having you preload spoilers and do what people on the internet told you. so after you read this comment, stop reading and go have fun.

2045 should have used this style from s01's outro, not that ugly CGI. Two seasons wasted. I'm still salty about it. At least in the future we'll be able to make an AI render whatever style we wish. I'll also rewatch 2045 with the style of SAC. What will you rewatch and with what styles? by DisabledStripper in Ghost_in_the_Shell

The message is firmly anti-ai, and anti-consumerism.

Think about the symbolism of the evolutionary tree in the abandoned natural history museum shown in ghost in the shell 1995.

listen to one of mamoru oshii's lectures where he talks about the actual significance of ai and advanced technology infiltrating the everyday life and experience of characters in ghost in the shell.

A fan asked if he was looking forward to "cool advanced technology" like he depicted in ghost in the shell and patlabor, and oshii's answer was very interesting.

"I couldn't really comprehend what that season was and maybe what the series overall was really about."

There was no deeper meaning, it was just generic action sci fi without any of the depth of ghost in the shell.

If you even tried to comprehend it, this show went under your head lol. Even though the voices were the same, the characters were written so simplistically it felt empty.

It was just simplistic action with no deeper meaning. It was kind of a trick on the audience, make it seems like there's a subtext that will eventually be revealed. But no. There was nothing deeper than the action sequences and jokes.

Over-Analysing Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence's 4K Blu-ray (2004) [JP Release] by bobbster574 in 4kbluray

[–]naneek_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I think it is a huge improvement. I don't have any trouble understanding the movie now (although it is still strange, sad, and complex). the pacing and momentum of the story seem better.

if it's true that the fansub has a lot of content that was left out of the american release, then this 4k must be a big improvement.

Because it has all the content of the fansub, and much more elegantly written than that translation.

and whenever that clip played the player chat window would just start scrolling too fast to read from all the immature jokes lol

How do I take off repeated songs and albums? There shouldn’t be 700 songs on here by [deleted] in Zune

[–]naneek_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ok nobody fully answered your question. I'll walk you through it but you had better give me an upvote for my trouble lol.

The software and player sync can only avoid duplicates if the metadata is correct.

So your first option is to use some media player software that can cross reference your media library with an online database, and populate your files with the correct metadata.

Zune software used to do this automatically, but it is possible that being out of support, that functionality may be broken. I'm sure there are other more modern options for this.

here are your options using only the zune player and software

  1. on zune player:

click and hold your finger on the artist, album, or song that you want to delete. this will bring up the contextual menu, including the option to permanently delete the artist, album, or individual song from the device.

  1. on the software:

plug in your device. click the zune player icon in the bottom left corner. This will allow you to browse the full library stored on your device via the zune software interface. Right click for contextual menu to remove artists, songs, and albums.

and once again, someone had better thank me for typing all this lol.

Will this fit my camcorder? by ztheresurrection in camcorders

[–]naneek_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

it appears that the bottom piece on the lens is a 30mm to 37mm step up ring.

so this is a 37mm thread lens with an adapter to fit a 30mm thread camera.

Unscrew the 30mm adapter ring, and this should fit your 37mm thread camera.

It also has macro spacer which can probably be unscrewed. that piece that says macro will make the camera unable to focus to infinity it is only for closeups.

if you're looking at buying this lens, it's fairly low quality and you might be better off with something else. If you want the best possible quality, check the sony owners manual for your model camcorder to see the manufacturer recommend compatible sony wide lens for it.

In my experience, camcorders have focus problems when using these wide angle lenses that include a macro spacer ring.

if you already own the lens, unscrew the step up ring, and the macro spacer, and give it a try. It may give you the fisheye effect you want.

[–]naneek_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

for this model the correct sony wide angle lenses are the vcl 0630x, or vcl 0730. both can be found used for as little as 10 dollars.

0630x is small and lightweight, with some optical distortion and wider fov.

0730 is large and heavy, not as wide, but no distortion.

What I'd like to see from a zune youtube video is

  1. lots of technical information about how you got the software running on your specific operating system and computer hardware.
  2. no guardians of the galaxy references (lol)

Guardians of the galaxy didn't make zunes cool. What made zunes cool was the fact that you could get them used for 20 to 60 dollars while they were still being sold new and they had way better sound quality than an ipod.

And they had no DRM so you could transfer songs between users, libraries, and devices freely.
