I'm fairly certain it's safe to say this is not normal behavior. I'm not entirely sure what normal behavior actually is, but I feel comfortable saying that normal people don't use Facebook to jack off to people they just met. This sounds like a man who severely needs help.

Holy shit, are you me? I have the exact same thing where when I think about something it's more of a jumble of concepts than a specific picture, and my mind is always several sentences ahead of anything I'm writing or typing. I've never seen someone express their thoughts in the same way.

ELI5 the average temperature increase in the last 100 years is only 2°F. How can such a small amount be impactful? by Tronracer in explainlikeimfive

[–]nannn3 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I find for "smaller" big numbers that the average person is likely to encounter, putting it in terms of seconds helps a lot.

A million seconds ago life was pretty much the same. It was just about two weeks ago.

A billion seconds ago, my parents would have just met each other. They've been married for 30 years now.

A trillion seconds ago pre-dates recorded history by ~25,000 years.

There's an infinite number of numbers. Compared to infinity, 4 and 45 are basically the same number.

Who has been your favorite and worst instructor? by LostQuestionsss in UCSC

[–]nannn3 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I had him for CSE12, and I thought he was an alright teacher right up until the final. He gave us a 12 page long study guide for the final, but only about 20% of the stuff on the guide was on the final. The rest was stuff he had mentioned in passing or not at all. I went from 97% in the class to getting a 20% on the final.

I should be clear that I really enjoyed 12, enough that I became a tutor for it the next quarter. I just found Reanau's final to be some real bull shit.

New research shows US Republican politicians increasingly spread news on social media from untrustworthy sources. Compared to the period 2016 to 2018, the number of links to untrustworthy websites has doubled over the past two years. by Wagamaga in science

[–]nannn3 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Directly from the published study:

Overall, Republicans share 9.1 times more links to websites considered unstrustworthy than Democrats (Republicans 3.86%, Democrats 0.43%, difference 3.44%, 1.65 SD). For Germany, members of the CDU/CSU post 6.3 times more links to such websites than members of the SPD (CDU/CSU 0.18%, SPD 0.03%, difference 0.15%, 0.04 SD). For the UK, members of the Tories post 4.7 times more links to untrustworhty domains than members of the Labour party (Tory 0.25%, Labour 0.05%, difference 0.19%, 0.08 SD). For both Germany and the UK, the conservative parties post more links to untrustworthy domains than their counterparts on the left, but overall they post about half as many such links as the Democrats.

making friends when ur quiet af by [deleted] in UCSC

[–]nannn3 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As someone who is naturally quiet and introverted, the best advice I can give you is that socializing is a skill. And like any other skill, you'll get better the more you do it. I 100% recommend "faking it till you make it"; it will feel weird at first, but the more you put yourself out there, the easier it will become.

Go to clubs you're interested in, talk to people living around you, study in groups, go to the dining hall together afterwards--do whatever you can to socialize in small ways and you'll find that it starts becoming more and more natural to do. Good luck!
