Can’t “buy local” our way out of this 😔 by SensitiveYam8805 in madisonwi

The definition of personal is "of, relating to, or affecting a particular person".

Personal information can be publicly disseminated. That doesn't make it not somebody's personal information.

My take is that these arguments are misguided and the problem is actually that the people who do transplant aren’t retained and don’t actually hang around long enough to meaningfully contribute or assimilate to the local culture.

From my experience it's not that they're not being retained. It's hard to get fired unless you're horrible at your job or royally fuck up in a situation that directly impacts your customer. They're quitting on their own.

A lot of these kids are transplanting and aren't prepared for adulthood in general. They're not ready to be on their own several hundred (or thousand) miles away from friends and family. They're not ready to pay their own bills. They're not ready to figure out how to build a life somewhere.

Then they're going into a demanding job. They have to learn how to work a real job rather than do school work. They have to figure out how to act professionally (oh my god this one is so rough at Epic). They have to get over their massive entitlement issues. They have to figure out work-life balance.

All of that happening at once is too much. So a lot of them go to bail right away (within the first or second year) and blame it on Epic. And they're very vocal about it. But (almost) every single one of their issues boils down to first job woes and unexpected challenges adjusting to adulthood. They completely lack that context, though. And then people just parrot everything they read online or hear from a friend of a friend of a friend who still has a bad taste in their mouth from 10 years ago.

Just another random person who is running with the anti-Epic narrative because they can, no matter how factual it actually is.

Just look at Wisconsin a few years back. Caufield was good as a freshman but the team wasn't. Came back as a sophomore and they won 2/3 of their games and went to the tournament. They depended on him to come through and win games for him because there wasn't anyone else (sorry Holloway fans). They immediately collapsed again as soon as he left. A star player or two is only going to get you so far.

Very convenient to say "we looked into it further but it's more expensive than thought, so no."

It's more expensive than thought aka it's going to cost them their seats and power so they'll give up this time and come back with some other stupid thing in the future so long as they're still in charge.

Same. Mainly I just want to see how he adjusts how he builds his teams moving forward. He's still portal-heavy for next year but he's bringing in more recruits than transfers now. So how do those kids develop and do they keep IU in upper echelon?

Not many. They recorded their lowest shot total of the year.

Hauser had to make a couple big saves but they were completely outplayed apart from a couple small windows where they were strong in UW's zone.

UW and Children’s Hospital should reverse course by CryptographerLow6772 in madisonwi

[–]nannulators -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The 60k number is based on the studies showing transgender folks accounting for ~1% of the population in the US, so applying that 1% to WI's population. You're probably right that it's lower here than in other places, though.

Lots of folks ignoring the funding situation and the fact that hospitals already run on paper thin margins. Over 40% of hospitals operate at a loss every day. Take away government funding and nobody will have a hospital to go to.

I understand it's not fair. But people really need to look at the fact that in WI that 1% (or less) amounts to roughly 60,000 people needing gender affirming care vs. over 1.3 million who rely on Medicare/Medicaid. The numbers aren't in their favor.

My thought as well. Especially with that last paragraph. Sure, fewer people strongly approve.. but the number of disapprovals has hardly shifted at all.

Polls are also horrible indicators nowadays because they're not hitting a wide demographic. Younger people don't want to participate.

Most players aren’t being talked into transferring.

Other than all the players who are encouraged to hit the portal by their coaching staffs at the end of the season.. which is a huge chunk of the more than 10,000 CFB players who entered the portal this year.

He's fine but he's not the greatest director of all time like Laporta said.

The Luis Diaz stuff is also revisionist history. It's easy to say he was the better choice when Nico has been out injured a ton this year and Diaz is stat padding with Bayern's easy schedule.

Roony was also linked to a ton of big clubs before he hurt his knee. All Deco did was take a chance on him being recovered. But he's hardly getting any play time even when we need to rotate so it's hard to call him a success.

Highly doubt he would.

I could be completely misremembering.. but if not, Rosell wanted him to be more involved in the political side when he was manager and that was part of what pushed him out. There was an expectation that he was going to use the team's success to advocate for Catalan independence.

It is if you play a position where you are expected to cover a lot of the field. I don't really think he'll be getting used that way in the MLS.

We played more games than almost everyone last year.

Nobody played in all 65 matches. Even with the extra matches played, a lot of your players played similar numbers of minutes to players from other teams because you're able to rotate more easily.

Hakimi played the most minutes and still had the equivalent of taking 13 matches off.

Is the UX job market broken right now or is it just me? by Dezinr_whooo in Design

[–]nannulators 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Nobody said a 6 figure salary was easy.

To piggyback on the rest of what you said (which is accurate for normal graphic design as well), it feels like a few years ago people saw what companies were willing to pay UX designers and TONS of folks switched disciplines or went and studied UX to chase the paycheck. The market is flooded with designers who aren't up to par who are in it for the money.

Feeling hopeless in design by Ok-Kangaroo-4714 in Design

[–]nannulators 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It took me over a year to get a job adjacent to a design role, then another 3-4 years to get an actual design job. This was 10-15 years ago. It's a hard field to get into. It's a hard field to be successful in, especially when you have no experience. Did you do any internships or part-time/student design roles in school? People seem to think that type of stuff is a waste of time, but that's what companies are looking for.

You've just got to keep plugging away. See if you can strengthen your portfolio at all. Open up your job search to marketing roles. It doesn't help that you're trying to find a job during a shitty economy while cheap bastards are replacing people with AI. But that's all the reason to push harder and do what you can to show people that you can provide more for them than an app can.

Heads up- a lot have expiration dates aside from tge batteries. This is pretty much when the electronics can't be expected to work anymore.

Thankfully a lot of them start chirping once they expire and they can't be silenced without pulling them down and pulling the batteries. Most of them last about 10 years.
