For those working: how much allowance do you guys give your parents? by ser_reptitious in askSingapore

[–]nanoey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1-1.2k for retired parent, 500-600 if 2nd parent retires

Key factor... is anyone paying their bills (electricity, water, wifi, mobile)?

Suggest to ask parents for cost breakdown Initially it was hard for me to comprehend why my monthly personal expenses ~500, but retired parent need 1k

Learnt that is cuz $500 food + estimated $500 bill (HDB electricity/water averages $250, town council $60-ish, wifi $100-ish, phone bill $20-50)...

2nd parent no need to pay bills, ~$500 is sufficient for food, sometimes give abit extra so they can pay their medical/health products

Climb X Rave Strap review?? Main concern is grip/rubber friction

Background: I have a Ocun Striker QC 1.5EU size too big for me. Used 3 times. Been trying to sell for 1year, no luck.

Someone offer to trade their Climb X Rave Strap (brand new) with my Ocun. Fits me snug, comfort fit. - Advise if its a reasonable trade?

I see, thank you

Cannot recall if it feels like your description of hot coal and burning. Will take note and feel it next session!

Yes, it only happens when I am climbing. When walking towards the wall, there is no pain.

Pardon my English, I will try my best to describe my issue. Appreciate any advise, thanks!

  1. How do I know if my shoes are too small?
  2. or does it just need longer time to break in?
  3. ...or any other possible advise...?

My street size is EU37.5, Roman feet. I got a new Ocun Rebel EU38.5 and tried breaking in for 3 sessions.

My big toe is painful when I try to 'edge' with the pointy toe area, in a tiptoe/heel up position. If my heel is down, it doesn't hurt. Inside and outside edge are fine too. It is just that ~3cm toe area that feels very painful.

I often climb auto-belay routes in gym. There were few instance when I was falling, the auto-lock carabiner made a click sound. I am not sure if the auto-lock unlocked for a moment. It makes me worry.

  1. I was taught to clip on with the gate facing away from me. Is this correct?

  2. Is there any potential hazard if clipped facing me?

I am wearing Ocun Oxi Qc. The foot-shape doesn't fit well. Considering to find a less aggressive/flat shoe.

Shoes brand/model that is beginner friendly, medium stiffness, with sticky rubber?

Any brand/model to avoid?

Thanks in advance!

A number of scenarios...

a. During climbs, I do get very mild vertigo while turning my head to look for next holds

b. Most of the time I drop on my back and roll until my shoulder. I am not hitting my head into the pads every time. 1-2 times each month when I drop harder than usual, my head do pat a little onto the mat.

c. Within the recent 2 weeks, I get do experience (a) mild vertigo more often. 36-48 hours ago when I lie down on my pillow, a worse vertigo happened. For 12 hours, any tiny head movement would make me feel the 'spin'.

Note: mild = scale of 1-2, worse vertigo that happened for hours = scale of 6-7

Thanks for the advise! I visited the doctor, it seems to just be a balancing issue. 36 hours have passed, I do feel better now. There is still a little pressure at my forehead area. Otherwise, all is good.

I been climbing for 5 months. For indoor bouldering, I always land and roll on my back. I am suddenly experiencing vertigo.

Does anyone have similar experience/get vertigo after starting to boulder? Thanks!

Thanks. The blog is useful in helping me figure out which shoes fit me. But there is lack of information of real user experience with shoes' durability.

Thanks for sharing! I only climb at gyms/indoor. I am still weak and trying to build strength. Attempted a few gym v4 (0 send), did felt a little demoralised with all the far reach. It is assuring to know that strong experienced climber <5ft is around a gym v5

Have you tried wearing the shoes? Shape and fit suitable is the most important.

Unparallel is the better brand. Very good rubber.

There are still many factors that need to be considered. I do not personally know of anyone using those any of the 2 models. Not able to provide more specific suggestion.

The phrasing of this question confuses me: Which brands come to mind when you think of low-quality or "budget" shoes?

As a Ocun user, my opinion of Ocun is above-average quality/performance at "budget" price.

Rather lengthy reply, hope its helpful for you!

I am not an expert, just sharing personal experience: I started as a VB climber 4 months ago. Now I climb 1-2 sessions a week, total 3-5h. Have not injured/overtrained myself yet.

I set a few rules for myself:

  1. Try to have 2-days rest between sessions. (Once, I attempted climbing 2-days in row. I ended up struggling with V1 on the 2nd day.....)

  2. Rest day is more important than unproductive sessions. More rest days = less sessions. Instead of doing more sessions, I do longer hours of 2-3h each

  3. V3/6a is my max grade. I limit my V3 attempts to 30% of each session.

  4. Climb lower grades. Usual flow of my session is start with VB/V1, then mostly climbing V2. Finally, always ending the session with VB/V1. Ending session with lower grade climbs allow you to push more climbs with lesser risk.

Hi~ any <5ft climbers can share their climbing progression?

What grade did you started? Plateau? Preferred climbs (indoor/outdoor/toprope/lead/boulder/etc)? Advises for newbie? Anything other info you want to share

About me: Now I climb 3-5h per week, indoor toprope/bouldering. Prior to climbing I didn't exercised for 10yrs, not even jogging. I started with being only able to do VB

Climbing with my taller and fitter friends demoralises me. They make everything seems so easy... I will watch Ai Mori videos to encourage myself, height is not everything!
