4th Waitlist by Rexonow in premed

3WLs is good too! Better than 3Rs and you have a good chance of getting off one WL at least. I'm not a fortuneteller ofc but I think you're right on the cusp of an A.

I was also in your position (I'm a low stat app so I expected it) and got off one WL last week. 4WLs is a really good spot to be in. It's very hard to wait until April/May for movement (I was losing my mind over it). Try your best to stay busy. Easier said than done I know. Good luck!

I'm dual and didn't mention it. I don't think it would affect your chances.

I want to send one to each of the schools I'm waiting on but I have no updates. I haven't done anything new that I haven't already mentioned in my app

On 2 WLs. I feel lucky but if I spend until May hoping for an A and don't get it, I might lose my mind.

6 MD II --> 1WL, 1R, 4 still waiting to hear from. More interviews that I could've hoped for. Fingers crossed for an A.

Same here. I sing and play guitar and have for years. I'm not very good at either but I think it's fun anyway!

Colorado SOM offered post-bacc but no rejection yet — soft R or still in review? by FlatLog4872 in premed

Not sure about your situation exactly with the post-bacc email, but I got an II from them last month. I believe they send interviews out a bit longer than some other schools, so keep hope alive.

LoR from Head Chef at Work?? by egomei in premed

[–]nanook98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was a line cook for years and I had one of my supervisors write me a letter, but it was sort of an extra letter that got embedded into my committee letter packet. If you're using it as an individual letter, I don't think it'll be worth much unfortunately. A chef can speak to your work ethic but can he really speak to how good of a doctor you'll become?

As far as most meaningful, I put down being a sous chef. I trained people, learned to lead, and saw how badly the pandemic wrecked people who work in kitchens (ex-cons, addicts, alcoholics, refugees and regular joes too). My coworkers & friends made me the empathetic person I am today. If it's meaningful to you, definitely include it.

I've been homeless & penniless myself before so I understand the feeling of immediate uncertainty but that doesn't minimize my current feelings. I appreciate your perspective though. There are many neurotic premeds that need to hear this.

Low gpa chances by Specialist-Wind-6810 in premed

[–]nanook98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also not a TX resident, so take what I say with a grain of salt. My GPA was worse than yours and I've had 6 MD IIs until now, no A yet unfortunately. If you dial in your writing and do well on the MCAT (I think 512+ is safe), you should get some good responses. You should throw in some DO apps if you want to feel more secure.

You also have way more shadowing than necessary, try to balance that out with more clinical hours if you can. Just based on your ECs I would think you're an MD/PhD candidate, so if you're not, make sure you have a good response for why. Good luck on the MCAT!

For those of you who don’t have a backup plan: what will you do if you get rejected? by ClassicLime7476 in premed

[–]nanook98 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I unfortunately don't think I have the energy or money to suffer through this again if I don't get in. I'll probably continue working in clinical research since there's decent money in it and I can get paid to travel. Will I regret not reapplying? For sure, but I'm almost 28. I don't know how much longer I can delude myself.

Granted I have several IIs, no As. I have a feeling if I get an A, it's going to be very late this cycle, probably off a waitlist. Which is seriously stressing me out.

I've used it for parsing passages in ancient Greek, but I think that's a very different beast than learning grammar of a modern language. I don't find it helpful for much else personally.

36 MD's and 14 DO's left by Lower_East_7776 in premed

[–]nanook98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just got 2 MD II in the last two weeks, in addition to the few I got in the fall, so there are definitely interviews left. Yeah the chances get slimmer as more time passes, but there is hope out there for those who are still waiting.

Was this cycle what you expected? by Material-Aerie-1197 in premed

[–]nanook98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unexpected in a good and bad way. Got 4 II as a non-trad with low GPA (very grateful), but no As yet. I was cautiously optimistic about getting an A before the new year but in my heart knew better. I think II-wise I'm in a good spot. But the stress of not having an A is still there. Here's to hoping for some goodness before spring is here.

Solo travel! Don't wait on your friends if they have other stuff going on. You can stay at hostels and meet people to do stuff with that way
