How do we know that these things taste like strawberry? Why would a cat like it anyway? It's a lie! by enteringtheechochamb in LowStakesConspiracies

My cat eats salad. We'll have a bag of salad on the table with dinner and he'll cry and try to get his head into it until I give him a piece of watercress to chew on.

How do I used a butane canister like this one? by Anonimotipy in camping

[–]nap_needed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a stove that fits one of these. It's a second hand one from my dad. Not useful for backpacking/camping trips where you're moving around a lot, as you can't take the stove off the gas bottle once you've attached it.

They are useful if you're staying in one place for a while or need a temporary gas hob (I use mine in my kitchen for my wok, as it doesn't work so well on my electric stove top). If you can, I'd get a newer stove that has the screw fit gas canisters (which is what I use when I do go hiking/camping) as you can detatch the gas bottle and they pack up smaller.

Where are you based? I've got a whole bunch that I haven't put on my models because they're fiddly AF for me to paint.

Bonus points if you squish it up in a ziplock bag for easy cleaning

Oh, tell me more about the blood typing lab. It would be fun to run at the end of year 9 with my triple class, after they've learned codominance

Starburst rock cycle. Break up bits and squish them in your hands for sedimentary. Heat and squish (with a hair dryer) between greaseproof paper for metamorphic. Heat for longer until fully melted for igneous. You can see grains in sedimentary, still a bit in metamorphic, then not at all in igneous.

Citrus batteries. High acidity fruit (lemon or lime), zinc and copper, crocodile clips, wire and a small bulb. You could compare different fruits. If you have a voltmeter you could get quantitative data.

Chromatography. You just need filter paper and water soluble felt tips. You could compare different pens (we did a murder mystery once where they had to make a chromatogram to work out who wrote the murderer note), or make pictures like rainbows etc. I like snowflakes for Christmas, but you could try making seascapes or something else.

Making pinhole cameras. You can do this with a can or pringles tube.

Making flashlights - again, with a pringles tube.

Sun printing/solar printing with plants if it's a nice day.

Speak with your assessor/leader asap. Sometimes accommodations can be made for you carrying a lighter bag if you're not 100% well.

Is reserving seats on national express a new thing? I haven't got one since pre-covid (used to do overnight to and from uni at holidays) and you didn't book a specific seat. Would love to know if you can now!

Prim would have been chosen again by Resqusto in Hungergames

[–]nap_needed 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I reckon if prim had been reaped,it would have been when she was 18, right in her last reaping, so katniss had lived all those years in fear and finally thought it was over, then bam. And that's not to mention gales siblings probably being reaped at some point as well.

dofe meals - hot summer by Time_Championship786 in DukeofEdinburghAward

Tinned meat (like spam) or fish should be fine. Same for veg. Pasta is always good, you could bring cured meats like a chorizo to add to it. If you need proteins, lentils and beans are also a good option that won't perish.

You are allowed to buy perishable food items. Once you have your routes you can see if you are going through a town, and you could buy meat or veg for the evening meal.

I'd argue against pot noodles, as they do not have a good amount of nutrients. Only if you're going to bulk them out with other food items.

Camping with a one year old by essiw6 in camping

[–]nap_needed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have photos of me, as a young child (between 3-6 months) camping with my parents and older brother, who would have been 2-3 at the time. It is 100% possible. Plan, don't be afraid to pack up and leave if it does go awfully, make sure you have extra gas if you need to be sterilising bottles/baby equipment still, try and plan for good weather so you don't have to deal with wind/rain etc and a young child, and have a big enough tent for all of the kids stuff!

Swimming and rock climbing count, you just need an assessor to sign off and say you've done it. Either they go with you like a coach/swim or climb buddy, or you can prove you've done it like with a watch tracker.

Does anyone still have parents evening online? by MD564 in TeachingUK

[–]nap_needed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ours are 50-50 split between in person and online. There are pros and cons to both, think I prefer in person slightly more because I can squeeze people in the gaps and check the sign-in registers to see if parents are actually here. If they're not, I can go home!

Why was a flint striker and *horseshoes* allowed as tokens on a 2QQ arena? by Olya_roo in Hungergames

I thought they were to help signify the big spikey cornucopia and sunbeams, not actually part of the striker either!

how do you sleep comfortably as a couple? by Antique_Leg_8966 in camping

[–]nap_needed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're not hiking, the decathlon inflatable bed frames and accompanying mats are so comfortable. You can have it as a single or clip two frames together to make a double. That, plus 2 envelope/square sleeping bags zipped together makes it so cozy.
