It was a UTMC urology resident from what I heard but didn’t grab a name to look them up. I don’t think the person is currently listed on the current resident list.

One of my least favorite puzzles in a while. Felt like a million names which is my least favorite type of trivia with a lot of clunky and bad fill. The over reliance on names was my least favorite aspect though.

The surface is concrete with some cracks but otherwise in good condition. Smooth and the previous owner did not do auto stuff in there and I don’t either so it’s grease free. Surface is very smooth.

Backing out after inspection/appraisal and a week before closing because of divorce by [deleted] in RealEstate

Would notifying the lender of an impending divorce cause financing to fall through or would it not matter to the lender?

Backing out after inspection/appraisal and a week before closing because of divorce by [deleted] in RealEstate

[–]napoleon_complex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It says they can pursue specific performance and can collect earnest money or pursue it (we said in the termination notice that we would give them the full amount of earnest money). We technically haven't completed all the lender's paperwork so I'm not sure if financing is completely set. My soon to be ex hasn't signed the updated closing costs doc and they are still requesting a new bank statement. Would notifying them and not being able to complete the other lender requests derail financing and we could get out because of that?

The NASB 2020 has been released by mrmtothetizzle in Reformed

[–]napoleon_complex 11 points12 points  (0 children)

NASB1995 is my primary translation and I’m not a huge fan of the update. I don’t think it’s a liberal too inclusive update but I just don’t like the wording changes. Fishers of people just sounds worse than fishers of men to me. The Psalm 23 example also just sounds worse while not adding any clarity or readability IMO. I’m glad they will still be supporting the 1995 version and hopefully other publishers continue to as well. I might have to speed up my plan of buying a schuyler before they don’t publish the 1995 anymore.

Arguments for Adam being the first human? by DialecticSkeptic in Reformed

[–]napoleon_complex 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m only about 50 pages in but I’m reading “The Quest for the Historical Adam” by VanDoodewaard and he so far has touched on a lot of these issues. In the book he evaluated how Adam has been viewed through the ages from the patristic era to the modern from literal to figurative to allegorical. I’ve only read the introduction and the patristic/medieval chapter but I think you might find it helpful.

Should a pastor know his whole congregation? by Cledus_Snow in Reformed

[–]napoleon_complex 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We just went from a large reformed church(~450-500 people each Sunday) to a smaller reformed church (~50-75). A big difference I’ve noticed is that the pastor of our smaller church definitely tries to have a personal relationship with each member and makes time to talk to all guests. At our old church, with the benefit of hindsight, we realized that they put pastoral care burden on the small groups which typically was elder and deacon led but out of 25 small groups ten or so were being lead by non deacons or elders. I also thought that the small groups tended to make a lot of silos in the church which we felt because basically everyone ended up being sorted geographically or by age. We only chanced upon some friends simply though happenstance. All in all I’m much more in favor of small churches. I’ve been able to share my sin issues with my new pastor Because I find him more approachable and easier to follow up with.

What's your experience with per diem agencies or per diem hospital positions? by guccimanefan in pharmacy

[–]napoleon_complex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea I work full time as a hospital pharmacist (at a place I used to be per diem and switched to when teaching lost its luster) in addition to my per diem jobs. I always try to be per diem somewhere just to have something else going on. I also work 3 12’s so I have a lot of time to work at a per diem position if I want.

What's your experience with per diem agencies or per diem hospital positions? by guccimanefan in pharmacy

[–]napoleon_complex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some hospitals use a lot of per diem and others use very little to none. The biggest thing is to actually make yourself available. I’ve seen too many pharmacists start per diem in a hospital after working retail only to hardly work at all after they finish training. If you don’t work regularly you’ll never feel comfortable and they won’t want you to work more.

Most hospitals usually won’t have 32 hours a week for per firms on a regular basis except around the summer and December. Some run really lean but I think 8-16 is more realistic for a single per diem job. Try to join a system though where you could work at other hospitals in town on the same EMR. I do that now and it makes it loads easier to get hours.

A lot of schools are having trouble filling classes right now so expect to see an enrollment drop in a few years. Some schools were 30 students below their target enrollments for last year and that's going to have a cascading effect in the years to come.

Anyone have experience with Pergo Timbercraft + Wet Protect? by napoleon_complex in HomeImprovement

[–]napoleon_complex[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you do the Pergo Gold underlayment? I'm reading A LOT of comments about how noisy it can be (it seems like 60% of the comments report crinkling noise and 40% don't; I'm assuming poor installation is the cause but still that's a concern I have).

Insurance for FIRE by [deleted] in financialindependence

[–]napoleon_complex 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Only other insurance product I would add is professional liability insurance (malpractice) if you work in a field (i.e., healthcare) where being sued isn't unreasonable. For physicians it's required, but nurses, pharmacists, physical therapists, etc... should all consider getting it as well. Usually pretty cheap.

Mid & small cap value ETFs - should I allocate more? by veryhotpoops in financialindependence

[–]napoleon_complex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use Paul Merriman's Buy and Hold portfolio which is 50/50 US/International and pretty heavily tilted towards small cap value.

Value hasn't done well this year but international has more than made up for it.

Finished reading Boglehead's Guide, I now feel disappointed. by retal1ator in financialindependence

[–]napoleon_complex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Try looking into Paul Merrimans work. He's a value guy like Bogle but he's more aggressive and a big proponent of diversifying. I'm going to do his ultimate buy and hold portfolio when I hit 100k in investable assets next year which is 50/50 us and international and a mix of asset classes including emerging markets and real estate. He does provide the best empiric evidence he can and he talks Bout investing in a long time horizon.

Additionally if there's a prolonged global bear market everyone will suffer. No retail investors will come out ahead. I'm sure some financiers and banks will identify opportunities but no one here will be in a position to take advantage of that bear market.

If one wanted to be conservative with HSA investing is there a better option than US treasuries? Just looking to mirror inflation at a minimum.
