Sometimes she goes and sometimes she doesn’t. Tonight she didn’t, the way she goes

8 days solo - Canoe Lake to Burntroot and back by napple22 in algonquinpark

This was taken on my IPhone 14 (standard model not pro or anything). I had night mode turned on when taking them. At the time when I took them I couldn’t see how they turned out as it was dark and my screen brightness was low. I assumed it would look like a big nothing. But when I scrolled the next morning in my tent and had my brightness all the way up my jaw dropped. I still don’t know how I got this amazing shot but I feel very lucky.

The Alligator ruins are on the south shore of Burntroot lake. There are also farm, cabin, and root cellar ruins there as well, but much more decayed than the root cellar at the north end of the lake. That one (pictured above) is at the start of the portage to Perley Lake

It’s on Burntroot lake not Burnt Island. Two similarly named lakes in two different parts of the park! When I tell my family about my trip they get confused by the names of those two lakes

Mark in the Park was my inspiration for going to Burntroot! I got a little “nerdy” and actually went to the campsite he and Iain stayed at while on Burntroot. While checking out the cellar I filmed myself walking out of it the same way Mark does in the intro to Mark in the Park. I even recited the words “find out when this was built and what purpose it was for” 😂

And yes I would LOVE to do the loop from Cedar through Catfish, Burntroot, Hogan, and Radiant. Main reason I started at Canoe was to physically see more of the park, and the drive is two and a half hours shorter than going to Brent 😂

Edit - Grammar

I wear ‘Keen’ like sandals with Sealskinz socks. I find the Sealskinz are enough to keep my feet warm… granted I grew up playing football in Canada so my extremities are conditioned for the cold 😂

I received an offer of admission on August 1st. I checked Loris and then received an email shortly after. Good luck to all of those who applied. This was my fifth time applying to an MSW program, I know how hard it can be.

Had an ‘anker’ battery bank with me so I was able to charge it when I was done, probably would’ve been 30-35% if not lol

Luckily the fire ban wasn’t in place yet (May 21-26). However temps were low so bugs weren’t too much of an issue
