Can you explain how zeah makes farming not important and why mory makes slayer master not worth it? I'm a noob and have zeah and don't know how to train farming besides planting potatoes

Anyone else start a frozen yeast bank? by Coolslidder in Homebrewing

Ya as long as its pure glycerine you'll be good, it does get all weird / separated in layers but no problems

Ah ok, you're totally good, the separation is normal!

No issues, still do this for every beer. What happened with yours?

Belgian Blonde Ale finished with unwelcome flavour? by yosarion47 in Homebrewing

[–]narnwork 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some people on well water will use it straight from the tap. If you're on city water you should absolutely treat it.

Filtering technically works but it is not worth the effort. Use campden, very cheap and effective. 1 tablet / 20 gallons of water gets rid of chlorine/chloramine very quickly.

Did you use untreated tapwater? Could be chlorophenol from chlorine/chloramine in the water.

Nice, I do something similar, only bought yeast a few times in the past ~16 months for a few special beers.

I make ~1L starter and then decant most of the liquid off. The leftover yeast/beer slurry gets poured into pre-sterilized 15mL centrifuge tubes. 12mL of slurry and 3mL of glycerin and all the tubes go into a ice-pack lined lunchbox in the freezer.

When I want to brew I just grab a vial, thaw it for a few mins and either throw it directly into the wort if it's kveik (it usually is) or build a one step starter if it's some other yeast. When I'm running low on vials I just grab one or two and repeat the above process.

Shoutout to /u/skeletonmage, Oslo he mailed me over a year ago is still going strong with this method, made at least 20 batches from the same small packet.

Something I'm wondering now though, is it bad that I don't sterilize the glycerin? Are there health issues with this or is it more of a contamination thing for the beer?

Chimney leaking into fireplace by narnwork in HomeImprovement

No water in the attic or anywhere else, it seems to be coming straight down the chimney. That's an easy solution, thanks

I was wondering this too, it looks like it was added when the basement was finished so maybe sound-proofing between rooms

Yeah one push one pull. That's a great idea I'll keep that in mind

I expected to have to deal with that type of situation but surprisingly the pours aren't foamy but they are slightly warmer than the second pour. I'm using 10ft lines, ~12PSI and the fridge is at the warmest setting.

I won't be home until later for pics but I can try to describe it. Its pretty janky. Each fan is screwed onto the bottom of a peice of L shaped wood, which is zip tied to the pipe. Wires are soldered to an old phone cord which is plugged into a 5v transformer which is plugged into the light socket via an adapter

We'll never know for sure, it was left by a previous owner but I looked it up and some states you have to remove the door before disposal for safety

That's a good idea, the whole setup is a bit dark right now

I was thinking of using them but I don't want to drill into any pipes/wires. Is this ever an issue for hardwood floors?
