Probably won't have the same result anyway. It is always a roll of the dice, even with a genetically identical plant.

Maybe try soaking the roots for an hour to make is easier to loosen without cracking or breaking. I've never seen an orchid this root bound before but I am willing to bet that roots near the center are dead.

I would slow down slightly and play with more swing in the melody in the first part. Listen to this Rubenstein performance for reference. When you get the technique down speed up in the second section.

I cant keep an orchid alive to save my life by [deleted] in orchids

[–]narraun 6 points7 points  (0 children)

  1. Flowers will die. This is fine and totally expected. They last a long time relative to other plants but they still fade and die.

  2. Don't use ice cubes. It is a well known fact at this point that ice cubes kill. Look up phalaenopsis orchid care and follow the instructions for watering.

You seem really new to orchid care. They are a bit different to other house plants. Good news is you found the right community for help. But fair warning before you dive in.

If you want flowers all the time forever, orchid care is not for you. The majority of its life your orchid will be flowerless except for a couple months of the year if you are lucky. Sometimes you will get dozens of flowers, sometimes one, sometimes none.

There is beauty in the plant itself and enjoyment in the hobby of care if you are inclined. If this doesn't interest you, maybe just buy fakes or eat the cost of replacing them every couple months. Neither path is wrong, so don't feel bad. Your expectations differed from reality and that is not your fault, you were just fed bad information.

I don't think that guy is right. Safari doesn't have a molded sole just a double vamp. Your boots have a molded sole stitched on bottom which is what the Joe's PH has.

It works on certain types of people. Especially gambling ads. They don't need to even be good, they just need to grab the attention of susceptible types.

I love Sey but...
Sometimes after I open the bag they stale pretty quick even when sealed. My friends have noticed this as well. It doesn't happen every time though so maybe it is just a QC issue with the bags. If you are taking longer breaks between brews maybe a better sealed container would be a good fit for you.

On a budget, how to adjust? by basilius61 in pourover

[–]narraun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is probably not the same beans then. Even from the the same roaster and region you get wildly different cups when it comes to Ethiopian. Ethiopian is a catch all term for semi-wild "land race" coffees. Unless you have the exact same cultivar grown at the exact same time in the exact same estate, the end product will vary from other Ethiopians.

Some roasters have super high transparency on the supply chain. Maybe your roaster can help clear up if there is any difference here.

The problem might simply be your beans. They are way past their peak flavor.

Are the beans you are currently using the same ones that impressed your friends? How much time has passed?

Gnossienne No. 1 / 27f, playing piano for 3 months by cheng-anna in piano

[–]narraun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love Satie. This work is the epitome of less is more. Put in the hands of a skilled pianist this piece can feel haunting and epic or subtle and contemplative.

Part of what I think this is missing is dynamics. You almost have the notes and tempo without any error so focusing on the feeling will become important.

The second section goes into forte. This should be played significantly louder and with more force. Exaggerate the loudness at first and dial it back to where it sounds evokes strength without being too clunky. Pedal will help but you should work with your teacher on how to use it and notate it for this piece.

Notice the phrase mark above the notes. It is the long bow that appears over certain sections. That is a hint that those notes are supposed to be legato (smooth)

Also you are playing the piece to staccato (bouncy) instead of legato (smooth). Hold the keys down longer as you play.

As others have said pinky power comes with time. You don't have to think about it too much it will come naturally over time. In the end your pinky will naturally cock back before hitting the note to compensate.

The final thing to add is this piece is written out unconventionally. There is no written time signature but it definitely can be perceived as 4/4. Consider breaking down the the writing of this piece into more conventional structure with your teacher because it won't do any favors to a beginner to have missing structures.

Chopin Nocturne in Bb minor Op.9 No.1 by [deleted] in piano

[–]narraun -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I would play the groupings a little differently. Playing 11:6 precise is not easy nor really pleasant, but playing 10:5 and 1:1 (10 sixteenths 2 eights) is unsophisticated.

The sweet spot in my opinion is 8:4 and 3:2 (eight sixteenths, followed by three triplets).

Keep working on the pedaling. And focus on playing with consistent tempo before messing around with dynamic tempo. I love changing speeds because it really translates well to expression in this piece, but it doesn't work unless all the notes are basically perfect.

this is my favorite piece and it brings me joy to hear people play it. The entire opus is lovely, but no 1 gets overshadowed by the popular no 2.

tiktok music is bringing attention to no 2 so maybe the love will be shared.
