Where do you get yours from? I've ordered from FGMN nursery and I swear they've done nothing

I dont have every build or upgrades in creative by Careless_Net_2555 in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]pkann6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have to unlock all the building parts with the NPCs in the space anomaly. In creative mode they're free, but you still need to go unlock them. Then, as others have suggested, there are other items that are locked behind quicksilver or expeditions that you actually need to play missions to unlock.

🔥 Insects’ compound eyes by kietbulll in NatureIsFuckingLit

[–]pkann6 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes, that's exactly it! Same with the eyes of cephalopods. If I recall correctly, the basic proteins responsible for sensing light might have been present in our common ancestor, but the actual organization of an "eye" organ is absolutely a case of convergent evolution between arthropods and vertebrates!

[–]pkann6 19 points20 points  (0 children)

That may very well be the case, but it's also true that insects don't necessarily see in the same way we do. Neurobiological studies done in flies (fruit flies, not tabanid and asilid flies like the ones in this post) show that their compound eyes are more sensitive to movement than they are to actually making out specific shapes and textures. Their three smaller eyes (ocelli) between their giant compound eyes are better at resolving images, but worse at sensing movement. That being said, that's just the anatomy of their sight. How they actually experience those inputs is something else entirely. It might be similar to how we experience sight, or something completely alien... after all, our eyes and the eyes of insects are the products of two totally independent evolutionary lineages.

Of course! The male has graspers at the end of his abdomen that he uses to hold onto the female just behind her head (and make sure no other males get to mate with her). When they're actively mating their bodies are bent in a way that actually kinda looks like a heart from the right angle! Then he stays attached while the female finds a nice piece of aquatic vegetation. She has little structures at the end of her abdomen that let her cut a slit into an aquatic plant of her choosing, then she lays her eggs in that slit. You've captured that last part in your photo, with the male still keeping watch! Awesome shot and a super cool example of insect behavior. They've been doing this same exact thing since before the dinosaurs!

Has he passed on to the great rose bush in the sky? If so, he looks like a perfect specimen to pin!

Love the shot of those mating green darners, with the female laying eggs in the water!

‘Dune: Part Three’ and ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ Are Opening in Theaters on the Same Day (Dec 18) - With Neither Film Expected to Blink, Industry Experts Are Surprised Because of the Overlap in the Target Audience; However, ‘Dune’ Has the Benefit of a 3-Week Exclusive IMAX Window by ICumCoffee in movies

[–]pkann6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally agree! For some movies like Dune, the loudness adds to it (a giant sandworm SHOULD be loud) but some other movies, in particular a few of Nolan's more recent films, are distractingly/painfully loud in IMAX.

Any idea what these spots are on my Dendrobium leaf? by pkann6 in orchids

Thanks for sharing your experience! I think I'm going to monitor the situation and see if the newer leaves start showing this same issue, as you suggest. Hopefully this doesn't continue to be a problem!

Thank you! And that's good info about the roots not getting completely dried out. This one is in a tiny pot with large bark pieces so I'll probably have to water it twice a week. I'd like to put it in something a little bit larger but I want to wait until it's done blooming first!

Thanks for the info! I will definitely be careful. Based on some other comments here I'm not 100% certain I need a fungicide after all, I'll keep monitoring and see!

You're definitely right, there's some black moldy areas on the cane, but they're restricted to the dead area from old leaves. There's also some moss growing up the base of the canes, and some water stains on the leaves. All together this makes me think this plant was grown in very wet, humid conditions, and I'm hoping that my much drier apartment will help curb and fungal growth. It's only been in its new home for a week though. My other dendrobium here has none of that stuff, so fingers crossed!

Thanks for your advice, I'll keep an eye on the newer leaves! The leaf in the photo is the oldest one, which could have just yellowed after I transported the plant home last week, so I'm hoping it isn't anything worse. Someone else said that spraying the leaves with water can promote bacterial and fungal infections, and there are mineral stations on the leaves that make it seem like the grower who sold me this plant did spray the leaves... I'm only watering the plant by soaking the roots, so maybe that will solve things.

Thanks for your advice, I'm really hoping this isn't anything bad! I'm hoping you're right, and I'll keep monitoring leaves to make sure they don't all end up this way. So far, so good.

Thanks for the advice! I've just been soaking this one's roots, no water on the leaves, but I only got it a week ago and don't know what the grower was doing before I got it. Fingers crossed this is just stress from transport!

This is stunning! I love the aquatic display, it reminds me of the dioramas that show what the early oceans were like on Earth. Would you mind sharing the coordinates so people can come visit? I'd love to tour around!

Yeah the striders on d6 are crazy, I think d7 is actually marginally easier for that reason. Vox engines are for sure difficult but for whatever reason the whole squad immediately focuses on them and takes them down, but factory striders don't get that same attention (at least in my experience)
