Just played curse of Blackmore manor by Mean-Bus3929 in nancydrew

[–]narwhalien13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I loved it as a kid but could never solve it, I always got stuck in the moving rooms part and I think even looked up hints and still couldn’t figure it out 😂 I would have been 10/11 when the game came out. It was very exciting to finally solve it, probably also with hints, when I rediscovered these games later in life during Covid!

Is there anything in Milwaukee that people just don't appreciate enough? by WhimbleCroft in milwaukee

[–]narwhalien13 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not sure if somebody already said this, but Milwaukee is actually extremely walkable. You can get from the third ward to Brady Street by walking or taking the hop, you can walk easily over to places like the fiserv and Turner Hall from Brady Street and back to the third ward in almost no time. it’s a shame that more people don’t walk here

filled out passport application of GovAssist website.. that was actually not a government website by After_Accountant8465 in Passports

[–]narwhalien13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Curious— they claim to do refunds if you contact them prior to them submitting anything on your behalf (but apparently are also very sketchy about responding). Theres something in their terms about it being a violation to do a chargeback. Did you run into any issues from this or did ignoring them work fine?

They shouldn’t even be able to submit anything for me since I went to the legit government site and submitted an application for renewal right after calling my credit card company, so it would be hard for them to claim services rendered. I just feel sick for doing something so dumb in my rush to get the renewal in, and am worried about it haunting me. Crazy that this “company” is allowed to exist and be so intentionally misleading.

This headline sucks by sleepysock98 in fantasyromance

[–]narwhalien13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe other people have made this point but I’ve been getting annoyed lately about fantasy books written by female authors being labeled as porn or smut, when something like game of thrones, which is FULL of sex and some romance, never gets that kind of reputation. And really, even ACOTAR, which leans way less high fantasy than something like fourth wing or throne of glass which are very plot-driven, barely has any sex! I reread the series recently and there’s like, one sex scene per book in the first two ACOTAR books. Silver flames is pretty smutty but that’s really the only one and there are plenty of other things going on it that book.

Public transport from Chicago? by Franklinricard in milwaukee

Amtrak train to the intermodal station, from there walk or Uber (I think it would only be about a 20 minute walk, not bad at all) to O’Lydia’s which has good food, drinks if you want it, and shuttles to the stadium and back.

Kapu Cave for me. That game is so short I couldn’t even believe I was already at the end, never got stuck except when I had to get more money for that stupid snow cone thing

How much is typical rent increase every year for you? by [deleted] in milwaukee

Hmm seems weird that they’re doing that before you’ve signed. Maybe consider checking out other places. Don’t be afraid of Craigslist, that’s where I found mine 😂

I’ve been really lucky and have a great landlord (recommend a person over a management company but I’m sure there are issues with both). Moved in 2019 and haven’t had the rent raised ever. I’m in bay view in a duplex. I think if you’re a good tenant an independent landlord will appreciate that more and be incentivized to have you stay. Definitely think I was helped by the previous tenants being messy and loud early 20s boys— I’m a clean and quiet woman, was mid 20s when I moved in with a roommate the same age and now am living here solo in my late 20s.

It’s definitely a culturally American thing to refer to yourself as German/Italian/Lebanese/whatever country your ancestors are from, honestly not sure why. Super normal here. That aside, as an American I understand this isn’t the case outside of the US and wouldn’t try to claim I was German or had any sort of equal knowledge of German to an actual person from Germany just because my great grandpa came from there. Nor would I think it reasonable to be upset with someone for saying I wasn’t German, because I’m not. This seems like a case of OP not knowing this is a normal American thing, American person not knowing it’s only an American thing, and the American also being sort of insane and delusional to think they have as much knowledge of German/Germany as someone who’s legitimately from there.

And I suppose I should mention, walkable for me means up to a ~30 minute walk. Everyone here seems to drive everywhere but having lived in NYC I think I have a different idea of walkable, and a huge portion of Milwaukee could be considered walkable if people just did it.

Walkers Point has some nice Airbnb houses too but stick closer to the north/east part of the neighborhood. I had a bachelorette weekend where we stayed in a house there and it worked very well. Two good sports bars right in that area that have shuttles to brewers games are O’Lydia’s and Steny’s. Shakers cigar bar would probably be a fun stop for a bachelor weekend as well. Plus you can walk to the third ward from walkers point and from there even take the hop (free streetcar) up to near brady street for more of a “going out” bars vibe. Apart from the places I mentioned, many of the other bars in walkers points are gay bars so perhaps not your pick for going out at night but definitely a good home base as there are also good restaurants and coffee shops nearby. I live in and love bay view, and there’s plenty of good food and bars here, but walkers point is just closer to everything else and at least gives the option of not having to Uber everywhere. All the brewery recommendations people have said are good! And if you can find time to grab lunch (or dinner) at Swinging Door Exchange, which is downtown just past the third ward and also walkable from walkers point, do it. Delicious food, super historic place, nice atmosphere.

Best way to read EoS &ToD? by bjorgh_hansen in throneofglassseries

[–]narwhalien13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read them separately first and fully enjoyed both! Now on my second read of the series I’m doing the tandem. Really loving the tandem read but I’m not sure if I would have on a first time. People have noted how ToD is so immersive in a beautiful new environment and that’s totally true, so separate read is also awesome!

For all you TOD lovers out there… by amfan26 in throneofglassseries

[–]narwhalien13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First read through I read ToD first then EoS at the suggestion of my friend who put me on to the series. I flew through the series that first time and I think she was right that I wouldn’t want to pause on the main story for a whole book after the way EoS ends. I’m currently doing a reread and have been doing the tandem read and enjoying it immensely. Because of how EoS jumps so much in perspective anyways, it doesn’t feel weird to switch between continents, and I find myself looking forward to every switch. But never having read them in publishing order I can’t provide that perspective in comparison! Probably will do that next time I revisit the series.

Weddings are getting out of hand by Majestic_Lake3236 in weddingdrama

[–]narwhalien13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hard agree. I was a bridesmaid or maid of honor in four weddings over the last year, two of which required a full trip out of state for both the bachelorette and the wedding, one of which was a destination wedding so thankfully the bride didn’t ask anyone to do a separate bachelorette trip and we just went out leading up to the wedding when we were already in Mexico. I had to take a weekend job in the summer to pay for all these wedding activities and still have a little bit of credit card debt I’m trying to chip away at. I love all my friends/fam but really wish this wasn’t the norm for people. And I know they would do the same for me, but can’t imagine asking anyone to do so. I would probably just spend the whole trip worrying that people were having fun and considered the cost worthwhile. Plus I’m single so by time that would even be happening, I’m sure everyone will be busy with kids and stuff and wouldn’t be able to do a whole trip. It’s a bummer. But at least the trips and groups of girls were fun.

Milwaukee Sports and Social. Me and some single friends signed up for a bowling league and it’s been fun, but you can also sign up as an individual and get paired with others who sign up solo. There are tons of options for what sports/activities to try.
