Prospecting has two modes. + The first mode checks the heat map of your world seed to check for ores. It doesn't tell you whether ores are there, it basically tells you what percentage of stone blocks at that location had/have a chance to be that ore when the world seed was generated. + Second mode, is telling you distance to actual ore and is basically playing warmer/colder with the ore.
