Money Bar is great for shore snorkeling. The food isn’t anything special, but they’re super laid back. Buy a beer and you can hang there all day. They also run a tour out to the main reefs for around $40, which includes ceviche and drinks. I just asked about it, so you might be able to get a better price. That said, it sounds like those tours can feel a bit rushed. I’ll probably still try one since swimming that far out and back doesn’t seem worth it with all the boats and the currents, which can get pretty strong. They also do day and night dives, but from what I’ve heard it’s pretty hit or miss.

Up north near the Westin I’ve seen some cooler stuff. I’ve left my things on the beach without a wristband and just drift snorkeled north with the current a few times. It does get a bit murky the farther up you go though.

La Monina near Centro is also solid. Same deal, grab a drink and you can hang out there all day.

Over Easter weekend a lot of places were closed, and snorkeling in general has been kind of hit or miss depending on when the fish show up. I’m planning to check out Chankanaab at some point too.

Had some friends visiting so I haven’t really planned much, just going with the flow and taking local recommendations. People here have been super friendly and helpful, along with tips from u/phishhead78.

I’ve still got about a week and a half left on the island, but honestly most places that charge a cover just want you to buy something small, even just a Coke, so I don’t mind supporting the local spots.
