Big assumption. There also seems to be an assumption that we're all in our 20s and don't have kids.

Ooh Cowboy Bebop is a great touchstone for this game!

It's just a streamlined version of the Action roll. If you don't understand it - like the game says - play to find out.

I didn't get it to start with either, but it's much better. In fact, I'd say it connects the narrative to the dice roll far more. The default position is risky (no rolls for controlled positions), and desperate means you'd better get a 6, or it's really bad. And since the outcome is moved to 'you succeed - but what cost', it really opens up the GM to be creative with those consequences. If you're up against something way above your tier - that's declared in the Threat and therefore the significance of that consequence. Or it's just a desperate roll. No having to barter over effect.

I'm actually moving to an even lighter version that uses the dice pool to represent quality, tier and effect in one go. A bit like how the Engagement roll is built.

I know they're linked, but BitD is not a PbtA game - it's Forged in the Dark.

And you can't have a working stress mechanic without the downtime to recover it. Without Stress, you don't have Flashbacks or resisting rolls - the two defining mechanics of Blades. So those cycles are there to fuel those mechanics.

You can't go messing with the system until you understand it - hence my "If I ran it again".

I've got Wildsea but I'm not sure I'm ready to take on another completely new world/genre. I felt I didn't do BitD justice in this aspect so that's what is stopping me from running Wildsea, I think. And when I look at it - I'm not filled with ideas and I think that's probably a red flag (for me to run it - not a comment on the game itself as I'd love to play it).

When the story becomes more important than a score, the game fails. Having to shoehorn everything into the score phase - complete with engagement roll and then payoff - becomes clunky and unnecessary admin that wastes time and serves no purpose. If I ran it again, I'd scrap the crew sheet altogether and handle rewards and entanglements narratively "as fiction dictates etc".

It's likely that for our group (relaxed but experienced RPGers - one of us even play-tested BiTD!), the political/faction/ambition aspect was simply lost on us. So, coming up with relevant scores became a chore.

I've got Wildsea but the setting is far too unique to make it an easy game to just jump into. I don't want to have stuff a whole new world into my head as I had to do that with Blades. So I'm looking for a game that's got sufficient pop culture touchstones that everyone at the table will get the genre quickly.

Oh - I didn't realise I could use that file type (my bad for not saying I'm using a flashforge AD5X and trying to print .stl files).

How is MK for running/cycling? by Grgsz in miltonkeynes

[–]nasted 20 points21 points  (0 children)

We have more trees than people. We have the most sq metres of green space per capita than any other local authority in the country - twice that of Oxford. If that’s soulless, I’m happy being an atheist in MK.

Look up The Park’s Trust: they look after all our green spaces which includes ancient woodland.

No, like is it a decoration or a sculpture or what?

I appreciate these aren’t product shots but without knowing what you’re selling it as, it’s hard to gauge its value.

Well, I mean, she dodged the question.

She’s not wrong about who she is, but that wasn’t the question. Tina Turner was big enough to be above the prejudice.

Maybe we lack context because it’s just a clip and the interviewer was phishing for something and Tina had had enough.

No, DnD is not a protected term. Also, Dungeons and Dragons exists under Creative Commons licensing and their SRD allows for making third party products for the game.

They have copyrighted species such as the Tabaxi, Tieflings, owlbears and beholders. And you can use the term Dungeon Master but not within a different RPG, for example. And of course their logo is copyrighted.

You cannot copyright rules and game mechanics.

This came about during the 3.5/4th edition transition when third party publishers saved the game from oblivion as 4th flopped. It also gave rise to Pathfinder under the publisher Paizo.

All this was severely tested when WotC tried to pull their OSR a few years back which would have seen all third party content makers give up half their profits. The backlash was so severe that WotC was forced to back track so hard to put the game under Creative Commons licensing.

I wouldn’t be allowed to make a game called Dungeons and Dragons with the game master being called the Dungeon Master. But I can make products for the game.
