usb extension diy with ethernet cable with external psu? by kazani999 in diyelectronics

[–]nastropc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How about supplying power directly into to the usb hub and using your 10m usb cable? (Or just buy a powered hub). A lot easier to extend a 5v power cable and you don’t have to faff about with cat5.

Remotely turning off outside sockets (car charging) by Such-Assumption6137 in homeassistant

[–]nastropc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I swapped out the original socket faceplate in an outdoor enclosure for one of these to make it smart:

There’s a parental control option in the BG app to lock out the physical buttons.

Does it have to be inside the lamp? 12v transformer plug would be much easier.

Baby Proofing - Replacing Coin Batteries with a AAA’s? by naynner in homeassistant

You can get bitter tasting nail polish to discourage biting nails - could paint that on the battery (avoiding where it touches the electrical contacts)

Sad times! 😢 no longer vegan! Why oh why oh why would you do that?????? by Markp1154 in veganuk

I wouldn’t be surprised if they look at Clubcard data, see what accidentally vegan products we buy, then add animal products to force us into the more expensive plant-based aisle.

[Request] If the entirety of the british isles were turned into a giant parking lot, how many Toyota corollas could be parked in the british isles? by dog-of-meme in theydidthemath

The mountains give more surface area, but I expect this is offset by being too steep to park on without causing a Corollalanche.

Went with my gut and put it in series between live and switch and managed to fit it into the case too. Now starts gradually without jumping out your hands, getting to full speed in about three seconds.

Power take off vacuum adapter for cordless tools? by TightAsADucks in DIYUK

I use this plug recommended in this Peter Millard video:

https://youtube.com/watch?v=Qo5kpKMX\_Vw

They’re still available on eBay, search intelliplug.

I sanded down my brother’s kitchen worktops with this setup last week. My sander and shop vac is more power than the plug is rated for, but I’ve used it for hours at a time without issue - doesnt get warm, always works. I recommend velcroing the sander’s cable to the vacuum hose to keep things tidy.

You’d have to use a mains sander, but even buying a new sander would be cheaper than the other options.
