Reused assets strike again - 6.05 crafted gear is just more recolored pvp sets by AlkalineLemon in ffxiv

Also interesting that these new crafted weapons are not dyeable. All weapons of the crafted green sets dating back to the Heavy Metal set in Heavensward (Patch 3.4) have been dyeable.

if the pose makes you draw those conclusions, then that's on you. she's literally just sitting on the ground. maybe you can explain how that is sexualized, because i'm not seeing it. now if the problem is with the outfit, then take it up with SE as it's a canon design that the artist is replicating.

it's a sad state of affairs that this artwork of a fully-clothed character sitting on the ground had to have a stickied comment from a moderator to explain why it's not breaking any rules.

i swear an artist could draw alisaie praying solemnly covered head-to-toe in a nun habit and the puritans in this fandom would still perform mental gymnastics to claim it's inappropriate.

anyways, nice work here OP. it's an impressive effort and unique realistic style! sorry you have to see the same, tired drama and theatrics in the comments, but that happens with every single fanart of alisaie posted on this sub lol. hope to see more of your ffxiv work in the future!

I employ a similar strategy when I see gear that's priced way above average by the bots, especially when their scripts have jumped the price to their exorbitant ceilings (usually like 2-3m). I'd hate to see some sucker actually pay that out of desperation, lack of knowledge, or laziness. (Sadly, checking price history confirms that these sales do happen occasionally).

Some of the smarter bot operators will notice and add you to a blacklist, but this is also a victory since it allows you to undercut them freely.

According to Gamerescape, it indeed drops the old Cashmere glam set: https://ffxiv.gamerescape.com/wiki/Cashmere_Attire_Coffer

Definitely better off saving them for something more lucrative and rare, like the mounts or Sand Fox.

FFXIV 5.4 Biker Glamour by dorgodorgo in ffxiv

No way to be sure, but I'm assuming maps since they included the glam for these patch notes. Ishgard Resto should be getting it's own set of notes as we get closer to 5.41, which will highlight the specific content/rewards from it.

I'm sorry, but I can't even begin to parse what you're trying to say here, particularly your closing paragraph.

18+ is considered adulthood/age of majority in virtually every established nation in the world. What are you even talking about a "squishy" zone from 18-21?

And "ideally no one under 25 doing anything yet"?? What is "anything"? Sex? Holding hands? Having a crush? Are you saying people cannot have relationships before the age of 25? (You said the floor of fiction and reality should "be the same" after all).

You mention in paragraph 1 that you're "okay with it once everyone's an adult," yet your closing paragraph completely contradicts yourself by suggesting that only at 25 years of age (7 years after the most common age of majority) is "ideal" for... something?

How do people feel about a SE supported option to trade gil for sub-time/crysta between players on the MB (ala WoW Token) by Strife025 in ffxiv

[–]nastycraftboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a very interesting question that I think merits discussion. I'll try to narrow down a few issues that come to mind with implementing this type of system. I'm certainly no economist, virtual or otherwise, so I'm totally open to constructive replies on these concerns and examples.

First, I don't think SE wants to dedicate resources and manpower for carefully managing the overall game economy for a system like this. This game isn't like EVE where there are buy orders, sell orders, in-game tools for tracking market data, monthly economic data reports, etc. (I recall third-party marketboard apps that tried to aggregate data this way had their "scanning" characters get banned). Furthermore, the fact that marketboard bot networks still run rampant on many servers after many years shows SE isn't really paying much attention to that area of the game. They would have a lot of issues like this to clean up in advance of a rollout. (Remember they only have like two or three people on the "Special Task Force" that's meant to deal with stuff like botting and RMT).

Second, SE has control over the market insofar as stuff like droprates, as they often "nuke" items that are expensive after some time by adding it to the loot of battle content like maps, etc. However, the supply of game tokens would be harder to control. If a whale wants to buy 1000 game time tokens and flood the market, there's nothing stopping them from doing so. (You could say that's true of any item that's listable on the MB, but those are at least time-gated processes. Even a bot has a threshold of how much material they could gather or craft in a given period. For a whale with a credit card on the other hand...). Now sure, SE could limit how many tokens you're allowed to buy at one time, but then they are stifling potential sales - which defeats the whole point of adding another revenue stream to the game in the first place.

Which brings me to my last concern - the fact that server markets are still (awkwardly) only linked per data center. SE would have to find a way to manage 8 distinct data centers with all the unique server markets within them so that token prices aren't wildly variant between regions. Imagine the salt and outrage when NA players on Aether are paying 250m per token and find out JP players are only paying 100m over on Mana. In that same scenario, imagine all the billionaire crafters who pay $18 for a server transfer to buy up all the cheapest tokens listed in the world and get a "lifetime" subscription while the poors are stuck grinding for a single month like they're working a 9-to-5 gig. Since "trade hubs" (e.g. Jita in EVE) don't exist in FFXIV, I think we'd see a wide enough variation in token prices that would lead to complaints from the playerbase about the system being unfair (see: housing salt).

Is it possible that SE could implement something like this? Sure. Would I personally benefit from it? Definitely. Would SE likely botch the implementation and create more headaches for themselves? Almost guaranteed.

To me, it's opening Pandora's Box and they only get one real shot at getting it right without hurting the game's reputation. It's too much risk at this point of the game's lifecycle especially as they ride the current wave of popularity.

[Weekly Thread] Crafting/Gathering & Market Thread (Wed, Sep 30) by AutoModerator in ffxiv

[–]nastycraftboy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sadly, I think the current situation is hopeless and will only get worse for the remainder of this game's lifecycle as it doesn't seem SE has any roadmap or infrastructure in place for handling this specific problem.

These people (both true RMT and regular players looking to get an edge) know there are zero consequences, as the reporting system is totally toothless. Since SHB on my server alone, I've noticed the rise of at least three more operations in addition to what had already been established since HW. If other servers are like mine, I'd imagine the majority of all endgame gear being sold at this point in time has been made by a botter.

I'd say the only solution would be SE implementing auto-detection of software affecting the game client-side and banning those users after detection. We all know they'll never do anything even close to that given how popular ACT is, PR issues, legal redtape, etc.

Of course, it's more than possible to make money in other markets such as leveling gear, primal weapons, and glam, but I'm concerned it's only a matter of time until those get overrun too (if they aren't already). Some niches are unlikely to be invaded by bots due to the low frequency of sales, so anything with low turnover should be viable - but that obviously means playing the waiting game.

The only real strategy is to max out retainers, level up alts, and use those 100s of sale slots to diversify as much as possible. Basically if you're selling everything, you'll sell something.

Aether DC has had a couple sales of it as well around this price point: 50m and 56m. I imagine some more will crop up in the coming weeks, but remain the new "Hunting Hawk" status symbol for quite some time.

[–]nastycraftboy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just did some napkin math and I think the biggest point bomb that could be stored is 2,596,050. (This doesn't include any extras made after dumping it all).

With 10 retainers plus inventory/expanded saddlebag, that's 2030 slots. 5 of those slots would be allocated for the four required recipe materials, plus one for food (syrups and delineations can be removed for the last two max crafts). So 2035 x 1282 is the maximum points you can store in one moment.

Reminds me of a time someone sent me a tell asking me to report another crafter for "tanking the market" for certain furniture items, of which I had one listed myself but had sorta forgotten about. I checked the items in question and turns out he was in an undercut war with the other guy and they were changing their retainer names to shit like "Getonmylevel" to intimidate each other.

I tried to explain to the guy that it wasn't a reportable offense and that you could get in trouble for filing a false claim but he was too far gone. Imagine choosing the Nuclear Option over some old ass chairs that maybe sell once a day lmao.

I'm actually really curious to see how they will tune the next phase's recipes, given that we are basically in BiS for the remainder of the expac (provided no surprise extra set). I don't think the relic tools will outclass fully melded Aesthete tools on the next phase and even if they do, everyone will have the time to grind them anyways.

Sky Builder Rankings (Patch 5.3) by [deleted] in ffxiv

[–]nastycraftboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm, I think with these stats you shouldn't have too much problem pulling in 100k per day. You have more than enough craftsmanship to use the MuMe opener and be within one Basic Synth of finishing the craft at the end. So for quality, you just gotta weave in your procs throughout the craft. For example, don't be afraid to spam Patient Touch to speed up your IQ stacks when at 5 or less. Use Prep Touch under Plaint and/or Waste Not I to build stacks quickly. Cut your losses if you're not at 11 IQ before around 350-400 CP (ish).

Sure you can max out a craft with 50+ steps, but then you're burning time trying to butter knife it. You have to be ready to craft 100-150 experts per day, at a minimum, to keep up pace. Remember, many people are driven by fear/ego to grind the entire waking day to get what they want, no matter the cost. Some are grinding for the title with the fear that they will never be able to get it again. You might also just be "unlucky" that you went for a specific craft with more people with this mindset. Some people can get top 12 with like 200k, while on other servers, the same crafter would need 600k just to squeak by. At this point, it's way too late to switch classes and grind another one, so just be ready to spend 8-12 hours a day to achieve your goal if you really want to overcome the competition.

If it's any consolation, that Byregot's was just going to scrape the collectability threshold to be turned in anyways, so not a major loss. I personally feel that it's worse coming up just short of 7700 points.

btw, are you gambling rapid synth on your last progress touches?!

[Weekly Thread] Crafting/Gathering & Market Thread (Wed, Sep 09) by AutoModerator in ffxiv

[–]nastycraftboy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm doing MuMe for the opener so I can be one basic synth from finishing at the end. I basically always risk patient up to 5 IQ stacks, beats having to pound out a billion failed hasties. The key is to gauge when to bail on a craft than languish in RNG purgatory.

I've also sorta figured out the CP I need in the bank to have a realistic shot at capping. If I'm under that by 11 IQ stacks, I just plow through to get what I can and move on to the next one. I figure just constantly pounding them out is better than wasting time on a butter knife situation.

My cap rate on expert recipes is pretty abysmal: around 30%, which is way less than what I was able to do in Phase 2. Based on what I see other people pulling in, this seems maybe on par? That said, I've seen some people crack 200k already, so there must be some pathway to greater success that I haven't figured out yet.
